Rewinding Techniques Part 3 (3)

This video is the last part of a three part video series. It is best to watch the first video to have a better understanding on the techniques discuss rather than skipping parts as most information are given in the first part of the video.
The armature used here is already broken, it is only used for education purposes. The wire number is 26, it is specifically large in diameter for this armature so as to clearly see the wires. The number of turns is also just for an example.
The techniques shown here will help in rewinding broken armatures.
The techniques includes:
1. Single Wire Set Single Side
It is a technique in rewinding using one set of wire and a continuous connection on the commutator segments. The advantage of this is it is very simple and easy to do, the connection on the segments are strong for it only has 1 break in it. The downside is that the spin of the armature is imbalance due to a biased of wires on one side.
2. Single Wire Set Dual Sides
The technique I use in making rewinding tutorials my personal favourite. It uses a single set of wire but changing sides of the commutator and slots occasionally. The advantage of this is that it creates a balance spin and a fair amount of broken connections. The downside is that it may be confusing on the connections because of the occasional changes in sides and may lead to wrong connections.
3. Dual Sides No Commutator
This technique involves removing the commutator from the armature and later re-attaching it when the armature slots are filled with windings and then connecting the lose ends of the wires to its proper commutator segments. The Advantage of this is that it is very fast in filling out a slot with lots of turns very quickly, it is also very balance in spin. The downside of this is that every commutator connection is broken, so reinforcing the connection i.e. epoxy is a must to secure it. And connecting the lose ends can be a tremendously hard process.
4. Dual Wire Set Dual Side
This technique is a variation of the second technique Single Wire Set Dual Side. It uses two wire set instead of one, two sides of the armature slots and commutator segments are used at the same time. The advantage of this is a very balance spin and a fairly strong connections as only the starting and the end connection is broken. The downside of this is the hassle of managing two set of wires.
Of course there are other techniques out there, if you do have one please comment it down.

Well why do starter motors have brushes at 90 and some 180 ° apart brushes? Are there some good sides if you wound a starter motor diferently considering torque speed and energy consuption? This is all experimental but wuld a transformer do the same thing for exampel if you put in series ore pararel conection to that field conections? For exampel ignition coil? Wuld that not do the same thing for exampel if you wuld leave out a center tap? Some how I belive a ordinary shunt motor culd by easely turned to universal motor ore performe bouth a generator function and a starter function those old staff were called back in the days combined motors I belive but no one realy shoved how were they wound.

I prefer this kind of winding style the A and B side using 2 wire set coz its balance.Can you do the nxt step of connecting it to the commutator,or if you have a video can you send the link

I've seen people stack separate wire windings on a single slot connecting to the same hook on the commutator. Any advantage to this? Great video btw.

2 questions: - how to decide the displacement or Pitch of Coil on Commutator >? - how to decide the count of turns on armature , is there is any law>?

Hi Fixat, the displacement depends on the field coil and carbon brush setup. It differ from brand to brand and type of power tool. The number of turns generally depends on the voltage source, the higher voltage the more coil turns needed but there is more to it than that.

@@fixat-illshowyouhowtofixyourpo If not yet, when you connect it to a power source does it spin or not? if it spins but very slow then maybe you got a burnt armature and or field coil wires, you need to replace it. If there is no sign of power, then maybe you got loose connections?
