In this video essay, we’re finally addressing Rings of Power season two, and rewriting it. I've always enjoyed trying to go beyond my crticism of a story, and see how it went wrong. It's a great way to learn, and to check yoruself and be sure that you aren't being purely emotional about a piece of content.
Rings of Power Season 2 has been the subject of many a conrtoversey, and has a story which is lacking in many ways, so, I decieded to rewrite it, focusing primarily on the character of Galadriel.
I also talk about Sauron, Durin, Celebrimbor, Gigalad, Elrond, and all teh other key characters of the show, tweaking their stroies and character arcs to something of a higher quality.
But, let me know what you think of this rewrite in the comments donw below. Does it hold up to the likes of Peter Jackson and JRR Tolkien?

I like the concept of Galadriel struggling with guilt, and her willingness to trust Gil-Galad with her concerns. It shows growth and humility, and would make her much more relatable and likable.

One issue I have is that Galadriel goes to Mordor... with the Ring? Sauron kills Celebrimbor torturing him trying to get him to reveal the location of the elven rings. Sending Galadriel to Mordor with the ring seems silly. Bear in mind that the whole aim of the elves in the 3rd age is to hide themselves and the rings.

Your understanding of Celebrimbor and his tragic downfall makes me yearn for a proper version of this character. I have no idea why the writers thought depicting him as looking like some doddering scholar rather than a passionate and prideful blacksmith. Meanwhile, they also said Michael Corleone was the model they used for Isildur’s arc. Only, I cannot think of a character even less like the future Godfather in conception or portrayal.

Yeah! It breaks my heart! To me, Celebrimbor is at the heart of this whole story, and they just blew it

I like your vision of the story a lot! Frankly, anything BUT the story they actually wrote would be better! I find I just don't care about any of the characters they included in the show. They're boring, annoying, unlikeable, or unrealistic. This was cool, thanks for sharing!

As noble as your efforts here are, it’s unfortunately still maddening (though it’s not your fault) because it’s still so inherently out of character for nearly all of the participating characters and elves/orcs in general. This problem is seeded deeply within the first season. You would have to start there to really fix it. But I do see that you’re working with what you have if you were to have accepted the criticisms of the first season and done the second season better. In that way, your changes are brilliant. I truly hope that they bring in a new writer for season 3 in order to redeem all of these characters and this story in general. As it is, it’s wholly abysmal and frankly unacceptable. I honestly feel so bad for all of the actors and the crew and the people who laboured on the set and costume design, etc… It’s just such a misguided project. As far as the politics of Numenor, that’s where most of this all needs to be happening. They have such good source material, I don’t understand how things have fallen apart so horrifically like this. If you don’t know much about Numenor, I highly recommend you read about it or seek out some of the brilliant lore KZbin channels out there. In deep geek is incredible, but there are others as well that give good accounts of the histories.

@@TheStorytellersGuild1 it’s practically the lion’s share of the happenings in the second age. Sure you can only do so much. But if you wanted to suggest you can write a better story than the writers of the second season, you’d at least want to do what they failed to do and actually implement the lore of the second season properly. Otherwise what’s the point of polishing a turd? It’s still a turd.

@@TheStorytellersGuild1 I meant the very first scene you described. It was orders of magnitude better than the clips and descriptions of the show's that I've watched and heard about here on KZbin. By the way, thanks for replying. Your, your cousin, and your brother's reaction channel Whitenoise was one of my favorites. (I know your brother has his own and it was usually you and your cousin, I just especially liked seeing all three of you together.) If you ever take a peak at my videos and find anything to praise about them, I would be overwhelmed with joy.

@@TheStorytellersGuild1 Your beginning, flashback seems shorter than that in the show, and brevity is usually preferable. Yours makes Sauron seem more of a leader/spiritual figure above the kind of shenanigans the show. Your beginning also seems true to the source material of Sauron voluntarily withdrawing, hopefully (for him) to go unnoticed by everyone from the Valar, to the elves, to men, dwarves, and any allies of those who defeated his former master. Finally, Sauron's words in your beginning shows his plan of someday returning to make himself and his allies mighty again, and next time win. It does, therefore, give a sense of foreboding.
