Old Bavarian hunting knife Nicker restoration. In this video I showed the restoration of an old hunting knife. This is an old Bavarian Nicker hunting knife. Nice antique knife. I think this knife was made in the early 20th century. I like knives of this type and decided to restore an old rusty knife. I removed the rust and repaired the handle. Great work! This knife is called Jagdnicker, hunting knife for stabbing deer. They still make them similar way now, I recently bought one in Germany for my collection. You can also make traditional style sheath for it, it is usually small and simple, should fit into special pocket of leather shorts :)

Was used to stab small game, up to roe , as final stab by stabbing into neck between spine bones. Large game was stabbed into heart or lung with Hirschfänger/ Staufänger or Saufeder/ boarspear, which has currently a small comeback. The Nicker was into 1960s in southern Germany and Austria a common EDC knife, even in 1990s, some older men carried one.

Всё понравилось, но когда бы начал разбирать, сначала бы нагрел термодуйкой, а не после. Окончание ручки, лучше сделать из белого металла, латунь, там не к месту, ручка получилась , как светофор 🚦 . Но работает, самое главное;) ❤ждём новых шедевров!

When I was a kid I had a knife with a similar blade shape only mine had a deer foot as the handle. Fantastic knife this was can't remember what I did with it.

Bitte. Ein Hirschfänger ist ein großes Jagdmesser, vermutlich vom spätmittelalterlichen Großen Messer abstammend, das bis in die Zwischenkriegszeit von Privatjägern und Forstbeamten getragen wurde, heute noch gelegentlich zu festlichen Jägerveranstaltungen. Dieses kleine Messer wurde früher nicht nur als Jagdmesser getragen, sondern in ganz Süddeutschland ,den schwäbischen Raum eingeschlossen, sowie Österreich als Alltagsmesser verwendet. Als Jagdmesser nennt man es Nicker, in meiner schwäbischen Heimat sagten alte Leute Steckmesser, auch Trachtenstilett habe ich schon gehört.

VERY interesting tang. Looks to be hand-hammered. I have an identical tang, that can be seen on the KKF, from a J.A.Henckles kitchen knife that I believe is only from the middle of the last Century although it looks to be an almost pre-industrialization type of manufacture. Nice job on the resto! I'm not a fan of antler handles for some reason.

Could the sanding of the blade also be done with some kind of powertool or is there a specific reason for hand sanding?

Hand work is more accurate and less likely to damage the geometry of the blade.

Доброго вечора. Глибоку, не залиту епоксидкою, тріщину на руків'ї тільки я бачу? Думав Ви її зачистите і виправите. Навіщо її залишати? Плюс тріщина біля оковки... Тильнику руків'я краще б пасував "дятлінг" округлим бойком молоточка (ІМХО). Бачу новий заточний станочок прикупили. З поворотним механізмом набагато приємніше працювати (маю заточну систему Poland Kazachok та масляні бруски BorideT2). Цифровий кутомір придбали? Бруски потрібно зберігати у дерев'янній нефарбованій коробочці. Бруски бажано наклеїти на алюмінієвий бланк, торці скошені під кут у 45 градусів ("ластівчин хвіст").

Доброго вечора! Думав тріщини залити епоксидкою, але залишив так, бо вони нагадують про вік ножа. Мені так більше подобається і на міцність вони не вливають. Щодо тильника, то не мав такого дрібного молоточка, а більшим боявся деформувати. Мав би молотка, то зробив би так, мені цей ефект більше подобається. Станок новий і головний фактор зміни - це поворотний механізм. Значно спрощує життя. А чому бруски потрібно зберігати у деревʼяній коробці?

1. Відкриті тріщини на руків'ї псують загальний вигляд ножа. Подобаються тріщини, не питання але вони мають бути закритими (супер клей, епоксидка). 2. У часи, коли був виготовлений цей ніж, тильник мав би виглядати або як оковка, або бути просто полірованим. 3. Основні правила по догляду та зберіганню водних (і не тільки) точильних каменів більшості виробників: 1. Не залишайте камінь надовго у воді, від цього він може зіпсуватися. При використанні досить просто хлюпнути небагато води в міру необхідності. 2. Не залишайте камінь сохнути на сонці - це може викликати утворення тріщин. 3. Не сушіть камінь під вентилятором або феном - це може викликати утворення тріщин. 4. Не піддавайте камінь екстремальним температурам - це може викликати утворення тріщин. Зберігаєте при кімнатній температурі. 5. Не мийте камінь під гарячою водою - можливе утворення тріщин. Користуйтеся холодною або злегка теплою водою. 6. Не використовуйте при роботі з каменем мило або миючі засобу, використовуйте тільки чисту воду. 7. Зберігайте точильні камені у коробках та боксах з природною вентиляцією та при кімнатній температурі. Свої точильні бруски зберігаю у берев'янній коробці у окремих відділеннях.
