While Jon Favreau is credited for writing the script for Book of Boba Fett, I still don’t know that it is right to blame him for how it turned out. Remember, Favreau had complete autonomy to make the first two seasons of the Mandalorian and they turned out very well. However, while Mando S3, Book of Boba Fett and Rangers of the New Republic were in development by Favreau, the Lucasfilm leadership structure was changed and Favreau then had to answer directly to Kennedy. Juggling multiple shows, Favreau handed over the directing of the Boba Fett show to Robert Rodriguez and went to work on the other shows. While Favreau was away, Kennedy gave Rodriguez orders to make massive changes to the Bobs Fett script. This is why the story felt jarring and disjointed. When Favreau returned, he was not happy with the results, and did not have time to do reshoots before his deadline, so he took two episodes from Mando S3 and stuck them into the Boba Fett show, which explains the two episodes where there was basically no Boba in them. Yet, that bought Favreau enough time to reshoot the final episode of Boba Fett. Kennedy appeared to sabotage the Rangers of the New Republic show when she fired its star for seemingly trivial reasons. Kennedy also required that Favreau make changes to season 3 of Mando, and we see how that turned out too.

@crackey3852Ай бұрын
Attacking the fans and calling them "toxic" is sad for this channel. That's what studios do when they put out poorly written content and want to avoid accountability. Saying your nuanced in your critiques and then saying people don't like Kathleen because she's a "her" is hypocritical. No one disliked Kathleen Kennedy until lucasfilm put out tons of disappointing content with poorly written characters, and then like many times when a film fails these days, they want to call the fans horrible people, cherry pick a few bad comments and act like that's everyone. People loved Lando, Leia, Padme, Mace, and Ashoka (animated version) was a fan favorite. Even behind the scenes women played a role in the OT. The modern day people behind Star wars want to erase that whole legacy so they can push forward the narrative that it was always racist and sexist. What people don't like is when studios act like people OWE them money and positive reviews purely because the film/show is diverse, even if it's shit writing and as you said, lacks coherent vision. It sadly also boils down talented people to a walking racial/gender/etc statement, which not a great way to treat people. Andor was Superb and had a non-white lead. Diversity can be great, but if you let it speak for itself and not used as a prop. Many behind Star wars seem to only care about identity politics, which is not appealing to the average viewer or even the people they are trying pandering to. It's some sort of prejudice to think that women or people of color can't tell when they're being sold bullshit or even worse, that they owe a studio their dollars. Sorry for the long rant, love this channel and have been watching it for a while, but sad to see good people push forward the "toxic" fanbase crap.

It wasnt interesting and its not her (the character and/or the actress') fault. Make a tv series. Cheaper, reaches a wider audience, gives her a good place in the lore. Expand the universe but do it right.

A lot of us want a Rey movie - please don't speak for us or try gatekeeping.

I wanted a Rey movie, she’s my favorite Star Wars character 😢. I’d be happy with a series too though.

I want to see what Daisy Ridley can do with competent writing and a decent story. Disney may have bastardized and murdered the Skywalker Saga, but I’m all for Rey having the chance to begin to make things right.

Yah, they should totally make a new movie where a plucky young woman from Exegal meets a fleeing imperial trooper and she helps him get off the planet with half a map that leads to Rey Skywalker!! It rhymes you see...
@marconious3212Ай бұрын
Fans aren't to blame for not wanting a character. The studio is to blame for the character not attracting and captivating fans. Rey is a character that very few people want. Let's stop pretending that if you don't like a movie or character, it makes you a bad fan. Rey is not compelling. Her development was lazy and thrown together.

The Rey character annoys me. Everything she does is so dramatic.

8:25 NOOOOOOOOO. We dont see anything except that episodes 8 & 9 aretrash and that's where you can see the true fall to the franchise. The force Awakens was the revamp we needed... Rouge One has its place too. But then Rian johnson did what he did with the higher ups approval and we got a Han Solo movie without Harison Ford, the only man to ever be able to portray the character. (Donald Glover did a decent Lando and was the only good part of the movie)

Star wars died in 2010 when George Lucas sold its soul to Disney, we've just been watching it's rotting and bloated corpse at this point. The sequels are horrible, and the shows are all mediocre

Fix LF by firing Kennedy, promoting Favreau, demoting Filoni, making Gilroy lead script supervisor, and Ronald Moore (of 2004 Battlestar Galactica) producer/showrunner of live-action Disney Plus SW content after his run on God of War. Until Kennedy is fired and well beyond, Favreau must inherit ALL of her and some of Dave's creative duties: greenlighting or rejecting story pitches, creative guidance, hiring and firing other creatives, etc. to provide the overall vision for SW. Moore would do the same but as advisor and 2nd to Favreau. But firing Kennedy is step #1 to turning Disney SW around. Making Tony Gilroy script supervisor of all TV and film SW content and Ronald Moore the producer and/or showrunner of all live-action SW Disney Plus shows are step 2 and nearly as crucial to turning things around at LF. Gilroy as script supervisor won't mean everything will be like Andor. It just means that the quality of SW material will rise to a much higher level. He has more than proven himself on the big and small screen with Rogue One and Andor which were fan or critically acclaimed if not both. Ronald D. Moore has also proven himself with Battlestar for which he won a Peabody Award. He's now a showrunner on the new series God of War. Despite my high hopes, Filoni has shown he needs more assistance with live action than previously thought after Ahsoka and Acolyte. So he should no longer be the chief creative officer at LF. Although he could still be a lead story creative. Emphasis on " a " lead story creative, not the lone lead story creative. But Gilroy should be the sole lead in finalizing SW film and TV scripts. So Filoni would be in charge of stating what some (but not all) of the characters, settings, eras, canon, and stories that are being told would be. The who, what, and when. Gilroy would be in charge of the why and how with character dialogue and character arcs in the stories being told, sometimes writing the scripts himself (or with a team of quality writers) or just providing script notes. Final script approval would be his over all others except Favreau. Gilroy, Moore, Favreau, and others can still suggest any story features (characters, settings, eras, etc.) that Filoni advises on. Favreau would have the final say if there are ever any conflicts. But most importantly, fire Kathleen Kennedy NOW. Star Wars will never be what it should be with her at the helm. And she's proven that over the last decade plus. She's had her chance. Now it's time for another to have theirs. Anyone who says " there's no source material for SW ", said " I don't owe anything to the OT fans ", and when asked in an on-cam interview if she was a Star Wars fan, never could bring herself to say " Yes, I'm a SW fan ", has no business whatsoever running LF. Incompetence, animosity, and detached apathy are the very last qualities anyone would want in someone in charge of such a loved franchise. Kennedy's toxic qualities have spread throughout LF for over a decade, leading to more trainwrecks than successes, more dysfunction than order, and more backlash than praise and celebration. Stop all of this by getting rid of her now. She must immediately be barred from ALL creative input (let alone final decisions). Until she's let go outright her duties must be relegated to only facilitating Faverau's direction, Filoni's input, and Gilroy's and Moore's quality control in the SW division of LF.

If we went back to 2012, Disney should have stuck with the plan Lucasfilm had. The idea to treat the sequels as a commentary on the War on Terror where Darth Maul as Osama Bin Laden, The First Order was Russia, and The New Republic was the USA was a solid idea. The choice to fire Michael Arndt was a huge mistake. They should have also filmed all three films back to back like The Lord of the Rings to ensure a uniform vision. The choice to cancel Clone Wars and erase the EU did nothing but upset long time fans, so that should have never happened. Yes, Clone Wars would have been on a rival network, but merchandising is where the real money for movie (or rather show) is made. For the EU books, Disney should have created a new line that is effectively their current book slates that is “canon” books to build up the new sequel trilogy & whatnot, and they should have rebranded the existing EU as the Legends universe (similar to how Marvel has the Ultimate Universe) where authors could publish stories that continue the old EU storylines. There are enough fans to support both the old and new book lines. After finishing principal photography of the sequels, Disney should have switched focus to an Old Republic set of films to essentially soft reboot the franchise. Obviously, we do not live in that universe; so instead Disney should instead focus on the High Republic and leave the sequel era alone to allow any possible nostalgia to build for that era. For non-Star Wars films, Disney should develop a Short Round spinoff film with Ke Huy Quan. They should also begin development some new franchises. The series (I think cancelled at this point) based on the Legacy of Orisha series was promising, but there are countless sci fi and fantasy series they could adapt. Lucasfilm does not need to be the house of Star Wars. There is far more potential there than that myopic view.

some of those directors are really good at making cinematic movies and scripts like Patty. I theorized that these directors and writers are leaving because disney wants to make everything PG related so they can sell toys and merch. For example, it would explain why marvel hero's has toy-looking suits that looks fake or that dialogues in movies are more dumbed down to incline with younger viewers (think Ragnarök: love and Thunder's script to that of the first Thor movie - very different writing in terms of their targeted audience)

Hot (would never happen in a million years) Take: Disney takes 5 years off Star Wars. All content; cartoons, movies, shows, video games, etc...frozen. They focus on Marvel projects and whatnot, and give themselves time to figure out a path, and give us time to *miss* Star Wars. Give us some Rogue One / Andor quality content as a film series? Super doable.

Star Wars, and many of the multi-film franchises, need to start at the end and work backwards from there to ensure meaningful connections and development of narrative seeds and kernels. This requires the ability to improvise and adapt to changing circumstance coupled with a strong guiding vision and design ethos for the narrative.

Episode 9 tells us what Rey does to the Jedi order. She buried the remaining lightsabers in the sand. She “left it in the past, killed it”. That was Disney’s decision on the future of the Jedi order. Anything else not only undermines the ending of e9, but it is clearly contrived and it won’t have a good rationale. They screwed this up already before anyone even mentioned the words “Rey movie”.

I disagree I think it’s the fandom, it is just way too angry and immature. The Rey movie should be for the children who grew up with the newer trilogy and are now young adults

Not a fan of anything Colton says. I like Screencrush in general. I did not appreciate their labeling disappointed fans as "haters" ---> umm do better. The last straw for Rey (after many straws) was when she went from a Palpatine and stood for the ultimate victory of the Palpatine bloodline over the Skywalker bloodline. She literally takes the Skywalker name. So if any children are born, those Palpatine kids will be called Skywalkers, etc. ---> such unnecessary foolishness.

The Force Awakens was great. One of the best cliffhangers of the modern era tbh. While I was disappointed with The Rise of Skywalker, I admire the crap out of The Last Jedi. Simply for the wild swings Johnson took with it. Did I love every decision made? Oh helllll no. But it gave us some amazing moments. I feel for Daisy Ridley. She really wanted the character of Rey to get the love she deserves

As you say. The story has to be cohesive. Characters that has a natural development and relevant story arch. The actors in the final trilogy did the best they could with the scripts they were handed but it must have been so frustrating working on something you know has a huge fandom and that they will hate the product.
