Cronenberg is a wonderful speaker. Brilliant man. His off-the-cuff (literally) riffing on his watch telling him to stand is proof of that!

I would love to see a movie with a script from David Lynch directed by David Cronenberg.

Both of them are more pathetic than each other😅 Your Cronenberg mentioned Hawks, right? Well better not waste your time with their sick pretentious garbage and watch HIS films, especially from the 30s - when cinema peaked

14:53 re making movie from Stephen King's novel of "The Dead Zone". Special praise from King. 17:42 re David Lynch (Thanks to commenter @Zetetik's link below, here's "an old interview where Lynch talks about Cronenberg" where I added the specific timecode: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g57We6mIZ9iJo6Mm28s ) Great Lynch interview by itself! Thanks @Zetetik!

Cronenberg talks about Alien having taken some stuff from Shivers .... Well, Scanners takes a lot from De Palma's The Fury.

Port Film Co-op It was a ride. Pretty deep movie about a lot of human aspects. Funny at times. Obviously dark and unpleasant also, but that just made the end even better.

he raises some great points about how studios operate. it brought to mind the way sony made the ghostbusters reboot. they didnt care about anything except that it had women in the lead roles, was abusive towards men in general, and contained some half arsed sociology lecture about sexism. you can tell they never even bothered to pay attention to the lead cast, they picked the wost actresses they could find. even funnier was the fact that the film bombed massively yet the liberal critics and the guy who made the film, still declared it a roaring success because it got a huge backlash from the gb fanbase. sony didnt make that film to make money, or be artistic. they made it to take a few cheap shots at the imaginary patriarchal boogeyman these studios seem determined to convince us all, actually exists.

"Canadian filmmaking (funded by the govt) is independent filmmaking"? How so? It's the very opposite of being independent. One is dependent on the Gov't for funds.

The interviewer really needs more practice interviewing people. I'm almost an hour in and all he's done is name David's films in chronological order. Nervous or not - when you're in the privileged position of conversing with an influential artist, you should do your due diligence and offer something thought provoking for all involved. I hope he's at least learned from this encounter.
