huge respect to Cronenberg for answering so calm and smart to a pretty agressive interviewer. Just once again shows you how intelligent Cronenberg really is.

did anyone else notice when they showed the clip of "The Fly" they put up the name for one of his other movies "eXistenZ"?

Ja. Paxman seems to have a major agenda and very limited sense of what Cronenberg (both the man and his films) is all about. It's a testament to Cronenberg's intellect and civility that he could answer with such composure and not betray any annoyance.

Paxman's problem is he can't turn off that belligerent interviewing style, which is perfect for confronting politicians over their many evasions, but which falls flat when trying to understand artists and a work's meaning.

That's his style, that's who he is.

I think paxmans style is always to be aggressive, even though its not always appropriate/necessary. I guess he prides himself on it.

The interviewer seemed quite argumentative, as though he wanted to embarrass his guest by implying that a curiousness towards violence is not a natural human trait. Very rude and disrespectful really...

Absolute nonsense. What nationality are you, and are you representative of your entire race? The interviewer is notorious for this approach, he generally reserves it for political interviews. And no, the British don't applaud him for it, they don't emulate him or put him on some kind of adoring nationalist ideal pedestal. What a tool.
