I was looking thru "wargame barrels" & came across this vid. 2 suggestions to make easier and/or heavier: 1) if you slide a wooden dowel inside the straw it gives some solidity to it so you can cut it with a hobby knife & 2) once you glue on the bottom you can pour in some sand tp give it weight and keep them from rolling all over.

Thanks for the comment and advice. The ideas you suggest would work well I think. I have since found these to be a bit ordinary as well, so I made some more of these and added in some simple steel nuts and hot glue to add weight, which also helped with gluing on a bottom piece. It worked out really easy and effective if you have some the right size laying around. Cheers again.

Thanks Thomas, yeah these were a really cool build, and it's really easy to make a bunch at a time. It turns out they're a perfect little detail to add into other terrain pieces as well, as you can see in the Barricades video, I think it really helped make those stand out. Cheers.

Hi Shawn, Excellent work again Sir, especially the damaged one, it will certainly save a small fortune not having to buy the barrel kits... Top marks again... 10/10 Please keep up the great work... All the very best... John...

Hi John, great see you're working your way through the videos and still enjoying them. You'll have to share some of your completed projects to me soon mate. The damaged barrel came in handy for the recent barricade build as well, so it's handy to have a few of them. Thanks so much for your comments, I really appreciate and look forward them :). Take care mate. Shawn.

@@RFDHobby Hi Shawn, To be honest I've never built anything like this or done any table top gaming, I just love watching people make and build things like this, I do build 1/24 scale cars when I can get them, they're normally kits that have been started as I can get them much cheaper than new kits, I also renovate the odd Die-Cast vehicle too, I think one of these days though I'll have a go at making things like this, especially the containers as these barrels as the plastic kit prices are ridiculous, but for now I'll just keep enjoying your videos... Please take care... John...

@@Andy203504 Thanks John. I spend a fair amount of time watching people make stuff that I'll probably never end up doing, for some reason metalwork and welding interests me, but I can pretty safely say I'll never weld anything :) . I still have a small stack of plastic scale models in my cupboard that I keep saying I'll get too, and I've got a couple of small dioramas I've built with them in the past on the shelves too. Thanks for watching mate. Great to hear from you. Take care. Shawn.

I use the a4 self adhesive labels sometimes you Get them free from Amazon, I've found these are perfect for making the band's on the barrels then pva them before painting

I guess one could also roll some paper into a tube and cut that in pieces? I never new how to make cool barrels, back when I played WH40k. Very good tutorial, as always! ;)
@RFDHobby5 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you could use paper here, you might even be able to use a printed texture to avoid having to paint them.

Nice idea, but without the palette aren’t they super light?
@RFDHobby3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, these are a little light, with the hot glue inside it does add a little weight to it, but they could probably use some sort of extra weight added. I think I'm going to try and redo these with different materials to see if I can improve them a little.

too much time consuming for a single piece ...
@RFDHobby3 жыл бұрын
I can usually make up a few of these fairly quickly and easily. But there is absolutely a bit of time required for such a small piece of terrain. Thanks for watching.

@@RFDHobbyIt's only a few months that I'm trying to build dioramas so I'm watching here and there just to grab new ideas ...trimming the paper is is what somehow disappointed me in this case ....what about cutting the straw and fill each side with some modelling clay ? ....laying down a thin flat strip of clay and then pressing on it each cut piece of straw should work in a few seconds ...just an idea :-)
@RFDHobby3 жыл бұрын
@@giancarlopaolini7529 Thanks for the suggestion, honestly the paper part of this build is what really gets to me too. I've been trying to think of ways to improve this part, I'll have to have another play around with them soon. Good luck with your building mate.
