Maybe not directly related, but it reminds me of something that's bothered me for a while. There's been a lot of condescension toward Ukraine from a lot of "experts" commenting on the war. See how many still seem to refuse to acknowledge that Ukraine could actually win, no matter how well they do. I think that also explains some of the reluctance to send more aid more quickly. See the delusional calls from the likes of Kissinger for Ukraine to achieve peace by surrendering some of their territory to Putin (as if Putin could be trusted to keep any treaty negotiated). Ukraine isn't supposed to actually win. Everyone expected it to be quickly subjugated and then drain Russia in a long insurgency. But actually winning a conventional war with Russia? Unthinkable. Part of it may be a justifiable fear of escalation with Russia, and some of it may just be self-interest, but I think a good bit of it is ultimately pride. Russia was supposed to be America's arch enemy, a peer opponent. The idea that a smaller country like Ukraine could seriously challenge, maybe even beat them, wounds the pride of many American "experts", so they can't admit that they so underestimated Ukraine (and overestimated Russia).

The Americans then wanted to know how they did it! I'm sure if you google the story you'll find out what I'm referring to because this is all coming from my memory. Not quite, as stated above. The M777 is an American redesign/reengineering and refinement of an earlier Vickers light howitzer with most of its parts, including its tube (fabricated at a US arsenal), manufactured in the US. It is also completed in the US. BAE has a history of buying manufacturers. They bought the American subsidiary in 2005 which reengineered this piece so it is not under license, it is produced by an American subsidiary of BAE. The Excalibur was also developed in the States and was manufactured for BAE by the Raytheon missiles division out of Tucson, Arizona and has been used operationally by US forces.

Better equipped, the Russians??? I am lucky, I don't take risks as I have friends who fall for the description and web-shots of all sorts of technology they buy from Russia, but life changes from sunny to stormy when the "happy buyer" gets to use/swear at the product in real life. That seems to be justifiable for a lot of Russian military hardware too. But the equipment that is really letting Russia receive what she deserves is, first and foremost, the leadership, from Bloodimir the Poo-Tin down, followed closely by the minds, the hearts, and the guts of the entire Russian military. Some of that may have been fit for purpose on 24/02/2022, but, now, it is all falling, or has fallen, apart.

@Alternative Headlines I’m concerned with oppression of any kind to whomever. Right now the focus is on blatant Russian aggression on a sovereign Nation and the consequences for Europe and the world. If there is such a thing as an order of priority, I believe the the larger conflict should take precedence and the internal disputes can be hopefully resolved later when the situation is calmer. Your self-righteous critique is unhelpful and petty considering the present threatening situation, and my comment was not a denial of Ukraine’s complicity in wrongs against ethnic Russians within its borders. @@tayikolla6205 what about the desires of the poeple of ukraine?do YOU respect them as a soverign country and want them to live independently from russia and want them to chart their own course going forward in the future? PLEASE respect ukraine and leave these people in peace and IF they want to do away with the russian language and pass laws to only teach ukrainian language as their NATIONAL languge then it it THEIR right to do so and NOT putin or Tayikolla should tell the ukrainians what they should & should'nt do simple because their country is bigger and has more military might etc,ok.and IF any ukrainian from the donbass wants to live under russia then let him MOVE to russia because ukraine already voted to leave the russian federation in a referendum already and now wants to chart their own destiny going forward, the sooner you & Mr putin accept this the better

@@languaha The nationalists can happily live in Western Ukraine where they belong to. Facts that show how the nationalists brought destruction to Ukraine. Without the military coup of 2014 Crimea would still be Ukranian. Had they fulfilled the Minsk agreements the Donbass would still be Russian. Had they stated their neutrality and given basic rights to Russian speaking people in the Donbass it would still be Russian. Choosing Russia as their enemy cost them Crimea, the Donbass, Kherson and Zaparozhie. Keep supporting crazy nationalists that do not represent the Ukranian people. Zelensky was chosen over a hard liner like Poroshenko because he promised to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict in the Donbass. Biden had other plans.
