Saw this and clicked on it immediately! Skydancer and The Gallery are some of the best metal albums of the 90s PERIOD!

THANK YOU finally someone who understands the fact there was never a "vocalist swap" with In Flames. In fact Mikael does some vocals on Skydancer too along with guitar

I laughed my ass off when you used the Duke Nukem "go find it" clip. I'll listen to The Gallery at work tomorrow now I promise.

You might be onto something, Glen Benton pretty much is KingCobra due to both being bad boy rock stars. Completely echo your sentiment on this pleasant surprise of a pick, especially with the 90's Fredrik Johansson run of Dark Tranquillity. Seeing the band in question, it's time to loose my TRVE KVT credentials & to hand in my 'proper' metal pass. Far from personal favorites these days, however in retrospect, the personal nostalgic sentiment for 2000's Dark Tranquillity is rarely matched. Borderline surreal to think that my gateway for metal was over a decade ago already, thanks to the Berserk AMV using 'The Wonders At Your Feet' from 'Haven'. Back in the day, simultaneously the motivation to start reading manga online (don't worry, it's been years since the weeabozo days) & delving further into (extreme) metal albums. Detour, but to this day, still dig the neat editing of this AMV quite a lot. Going down memory lane, curious how much longer it would have taken for me to give metal a proper shot, cause the late 2000's/early 2010's 'metaI' I was subject to from my direct surroundings (or from Newgrounds flash animations/FPS montages/AMVs) was borderline irredeemable. Credit where credit is due, the 2000's run from Haven to Friction was a quintessential stepping stone for my personal journey into metal. It's been a mighty long time since the last time I've spun any DT, but I recall being pleasantly surprised with the last time I gave Character a shot (not as cookie cutter or as saccharine as I expected). Nostalgia (for simpler times). Rest In Peace Fredrik Johansson & Kentaro Miura. I would have sworn I've asked this on my previous comment, but due to the in-commensurable loss of PK (Rest In Eternal Power), what is your favorite Abigor release? Out of morbid curiosity, since I haven't been 'up-to-date' with current metal for a hot minute, would you have any recommendations that you've spun a whole bunch in recent times? Praise to the almighty Jiub! Respect for the never-ending grind & hails to the niche king! Infernal hails & eternal gratitude Jiub!

The second demo they did was awesome, especially that song "Void of Tranquillity". The Gallery was as far as I go with them

I first heard them on mp3 compilation my older friend burned for me. It contained Punish My Heaven and Alone. To this day these are my favourite songs by them.

DUDE!! That intro tripped me the F out. I was just listening to Infestdead JesuSatan just now at the gym. I thought my Spotify was still on 😅

i heard some damage done-era Dark Tranquillity on Matenrou Opera's title track from their debut album Anomie
@radiofreeinnsmouth13373 ай бұрын
Most definitely. I've really come to LOVE that album over the past couple years by the way. I like all their stuff but especially the title track on Anomie I play at the gym almost every time I go nowadays.

Thanks! Dark Tranquillity (probably The Gallery) and In Flames must be one of the first "real" metal bands I've heard (as opposed to something like Metallica). However, I quickly moved towards the more extreme genres, like goregrind or BM, and never listened to them much since.

This was great, especially for someone like me who kind of skipped over DT until much later. What do you think of an early Soilwork episode? I like The Chainheart Machine a lot, and that era definitely “fits the bill” if you will… 🤘

dark tranquillity, the band that started strong, put out some trash in the middle, and came back to being awesome again!

and while i know gallery/mind's i are the peak, i just love Fiction. and especially the song Focus Shift. how his vocals get more savage each pass thru the chorus. so intense. and i did not like Haven/Projector, his singing was really really bad in this era. and the music felt stagnant. i still like to tell people Dark Tranquillity is "the last good Gothenburg style band"
@evanwhitaker31963 ай бұрын
@@PaleBlueCamelArchives hell yes, Fiction is amazing. I think It's the most inspired sounding, best work they've put out in their modern era.

I never understood the hate the Gothenburg bands got. Even In Flames, the band that “sold out” the hardest from that scene is still great for a large chunk of their discography. If you ask the average elitist metalhead if they like Iron Maiden they won’t hesitate to say yes. But once you try to combine Iron Maiden with death metal suddenly you’ve gone too far.

The Mind's I is one of those albums that makes me feel like I'm going crazy. One week, it's some of the greatest shit ever, so powerful and emotive. Then the next week, it has zero effect on me.... absolutely can't get into it because of it's thin, rather weak production. Drums sound good, Mikael sounds great, but the guitar tone and bass sound like shit. Still a beloved album, but I think it could've hit so much harder with some beef in it, some low end. At the very least, I think it's due for a remastering.

This is high school PTSD material. If I were to go into therapy, I am pretty sure that Swedish melodic death metal and the fans would come out as the main reason I went into hardcore punk and crust back in the mid to late 90's.
