Knulli is so good. I dont mind muOS and run that on my RG35XX+, and the new refried beans version has some upside (like being able to toggle fast-forward on and off, and the video player RA core that's perfect for nostalgic 90s 480p anime), but i keep going back to Knulli

I have both the H and the SP and they are both great. However, I do agree that to truly use all that the chipset is capable of, the H with the joystick enables you to do so. One thing left out of the video is that the buttons on the H have a more premium feel to it than the SP, it is not as loud.

The H is the best, it doesn't have the nostalgia factor which the plus and the SP have, but is the most well rounded. I took the plus for DMG nostalgia and people are buying the SP for the SP nostalgia, but for who doesn't care, the H is the complete package. By the way, the one really forgotten seens the plus, everyone moved to SP, the cube and H 😢

I have both, but I prefer the SP by a mile. I'm not worried about dropping anything, and the clamshell can be chucked into my bag or pocket without an additional little pouch or some other case.

I was considering getting an SP for the very same reason. I have an H now and everytime I get it into my backpack without a case (I don't have one yet) I worry about getting the screen scratched or having all kinds of dirt or dust into my thumbstick holes or into the small gaps of the edges of the screen. It's very frustrating. For backpack kind of people, I presume, that the SP might be far more comfortable.

A clamshell isn't necessary more strong because it has more moving parts which results in more possible problems, also I have a retroid pocket 2 and it is vertually indestructible from what I've experienced, I've dropped that thing on cement, rocks, the floor from a high area and that thing still works perfect to this day even years later, the advantage of a clamshell is protecting the screen but if you have a good case or a screen protector it isn't a necessary thing unless you just want to shove it in your pocket

The feel and the build quality of the H are so nice considering how cheap the device is. It's my daily driver. Good screen, great controls, very pocketable, enough power to play anything I want to play on a device like this. It's gonna take something really special to overtake the H as my best all around handheld.

I tried the sp, but they sent me the wrong color. Then I took advantage of their sale and got the h for around $40. Long story short I gave away the sp and kept the h. It just feels better.

If U Put Ur device into a handbag or a backpack, then the clamshell design does have a big advantage in protecting the screen from scratches. I never thought the clamshell design would protect the screen from a fall, that sounds silly.

One thing for the H is that it is almost the same size as the OG GBA (tiny bit shorter and 30% thinner), so you know that thing fits in your pocket. If only Anbernic decided to give it better color schemes (and had the sticks not lock to cardinals).

I really resonate with the "h feels like an emulation device and the SP almost feels like a native system". It probably best sums up my sentiment between the two, something just feels right and appealing about picking up the SP imo. In regard to the thumbsticks, on a device the size of any of these similar devices, I have never found the positioning comfortable enough for use without causing the exact same issue for the dpad if they flip them. The size is just a bit too small to comfortably fit both control types

I have the H and the 556. I love playing both. Using them for different systems. I'm not going to lie; I've been fighting nostalgia and the urge to get an SP (I still say the SP was the best/perfect gameboy model. Fight me!).

That thing that made me go for the H instead of the SP was pocketability, the SP being a flip, it makes getting in and out of the pocket easier, because nothing gets stuck, unlike the H, that the analogs can get stuck on your pockets, so it's a litter harder to snug in and out, but the SP has a problem is too thick 🥵🥵, the H's analogs can get sometimes stuck, but since the H is so thin, it edges out the SP, it's too bulky to carry in a pocket, if it was just as thick as a 3DS then we're talking, hope anbernic makes a flip device that's just as thing as a ds.

Flip is flipping better no need to use a case screen automatically protected on close but anbernic is priced on hype. It'll be same price as h soon. You can also change battery it's your only anbernic with changeable battery. We're not talking about dropping but scratching 😆 it's more portable pocketable 😀

Speaking on how delicate the SP is I have one and I love it. But I would definitely recommend putting it in your right pocket as opposed to your left (if you are in the United States) if you are driving because it slipped out of my pocket. Thank God it was still okay

The games I want to play on a 3.5 inch 4:3 screen just dont need thumbsticks. I've been playing with my flippy boy a lot and I just havent once wanted them. That comes down to personal preference though. I am thinking about getting a second handheld (only 2? I know I know) with a 16:9 screen thats a bit bigger for long trips. Maybe an Odin 2 or something. Maybe next year.

Personally Vlad, I'm bloody old and because of my age, my eyes are just not what they used to be so a RG40XX makes more sense to me with a larger screen as well as a number of quality of life improvements over the RG35XXH. The RG MotherFlipper honestly fills a different role for me more than any other iteration of the H700 handheld. Nostalgia yes but there's a certain intangible quality about the RG MotherFlipper that I have a hard time defining. Gen Z? Lol. Us baby-boomers honestly don't care. Hammer the the caps lad. 😄😉👍

I went with the Retroid Pocket 2S over the RG35XXH, since I liked the stacked shoulder buttons of the RP2S over the in line ones for the 35H… and then got an SP anyway to play Native Pico8 games and for the nostalgia of the cobalt GBASP I had as a kid.

We nerds go through different phases. The first handheld has to be either the cheapest or the best we can get, the second is the exact opposite and then we start buying them to fit into a certain category or system style. There can be no perfect handheld and if there would be then our hoarding hobby would be pointless.

If not for all those things, buy the one that is cheaper or easier to get. I, for example, can't buy the sp because aliexpress ships to courier and in my country you can't get anything from there if you are under 18 and I can't buy the h because it sells for twice the price on local internet shops

No joysticks/thumbsticks is a big deal to me, its a case of having and not using it than not having it at all. And by stick, it has to have an l3/r3 and be comfortable. That's why I got the H over the trimui.

The H will always be the more functional option, on top of all the similarities, which makes it the objectively best option for a budget handheld. But nostalgia makes a very... VERY powerful argument. I would say both of these are the best options right now, one is more functional, but one is more nostalgic, and both have a place in the market. Personally, im an H enthusiast.

This was by far the easiest to update to Anbernic’s 1.1.4v and put roms on the RG35xxh. All the videos I’ve seen make it seem like this hard and worrisome. All you need to do is use a program USB Flash by PassMark to flash the 64GB version. Don’t use Rufus. The 16GB doesn’t have the roms. Flash that to a brand new 64GB MicroSD card. Take a blank MicroSD card in the second port. This puts folders on it. It will appear to be blank. It’s not blank. Go into the MicroSD card and drop the roms into the Game System of your choices folder. The device knows which emulator to play the rom when you selecting between each MicroSD card.

I have the two SPs now one is stored away as a back up and a nintendo switch, I use them both but they complement each other so well. If i go anywhere knowing il be 1 to 2 hours i just grab the SP and pocket it, anything longer I take both by putting SP in the switch case 😅

I have the h, and I dropped it screen down. The included glass screen protector chipped a tiny bit, and that's it. I use mine as a dedicated stardew machine. MuOS boots straight to stardew when i power on. I thought about getting an SP as my daughter wanted one for her own, but lack of sticks makes playing stardew impossible. It requires it for building new farm buildings and things like that. 2nd h on its way from the ali summer sale. My 2 cents.

MuOS fixed this issue with there new update. Now just press the power button and it switches the dpad to analogue even for Portmaster Stardew. I'm sure having actual sticks is still better but I find stardew very playable on my RG35XXSP

Have you heard about the hoo haa with the MuOS devs complaining about Anbernic including "unlicenced" ports in latest update for Rg35XXH? Kind of a weird hill for them to stand on when their whole OS is designed to play unlicensed Roms as well as the fact the Anbernic included many games in their releases before with not a word about it from MuOS devs

Nope, I get them tbh. muOS doesn't deliver any unlicensed content. The problem is that Anbernic outright stole Portmaster code (which is open source) to openly distribute ports of games that you can still buy today. Roms and emulation is technically legal as long as you can't legally purchase the stuff in question anymore (like old NES games). What Anbernic is doing though is that they're going full pirate. Not good for the whole retro field, it'll allow companies to better align "rom preservation" with blatant piracy in future court orders. Might make a vid on it tbh.

It's not even a real question. Of course it's the retroid pocket 2s, but you have to consider the price. Usually you can buy the h for 30 dollars on sale, while the retroid pocket 2s costs 3 times as much as the h.

This mother-flipper here prefers the flipping H over the flipping SP. Those flipping thumb sticks are necessary to get full functionality out of the flipping product.

Hey! I just purchased the Anbernic rg35xx H and its been a nightmare. When I turn the system on it just gets stuck on the Anbernic loading screen. After resetting it/shutting it off and on it usually randomly works after several attempts (Usually takes like 15+ min of repeating this random reset on/off process for the system to finally boot up). It works well when its on but getting it to turn on and run has been a pain. This is all happening within my first day with the system. Any idea what could be wrong or how I can fix it? Thanks so much!

Yup. The micro SD card that came with it died. It's always recommended to throw the provided cards in the bin and just flash the OS (your choice here, you can either go with the preconfigured stock one or custom firmwares) on a name-brand micro SD card. :)

Buy a new sd card, the cheap sd card that comes with the unit gets corrupted. Choose a branded sd card, there are tons of tutorial videos out there on how to flash a new os and transfer game roms. Hope this helps

Tbh, they really should sell these devices without the shitty sd cards. The devices would be a slightly bit cheaper and it would prevent all these negative comments about faulty devices. It's like 99% of these comments are because of the faulty sd cards and it prevented me from buying an anbernic.

Exactly. It sells you a sense of security, because of the clam shell design, but in reality it's even more vulnerable than other devices because of the design.

Hey if you are getting these handhelds to play anything beyond ps1, I think you are asking WAY too much out of them haha. They are literally gameboy clones. I think something like the retroid pocket mini makes way more sense for that psp/gamecube range of emulation. EDIT: Also aren't the sticks on the H kinda terrible? haha

Well you completely right that SP is inferior in almost every way to H model yet when you look at SP something awakens in your heart, like some feeling, and when i look on this ultra cool modern handhelds i feels mostly nothing, Nintendo designers were certainly knew what they were doing. And Chinese ones hardly can do a good design by themselves. RGB30 is interesting RG Cube i guess and not much more, good replicas mostly(important thing yet). I think with 4 inch they had to copy original psp design maybe with 2 sticks and inline triggers but still, it could be certainly more interesting for wider audience, and now it's just another chinese handheld

I have the 35xx og, the 353v and the 35xx H..... I have to say, despide Ark OS on the 353v being pretty awesome... The 35XX H is by far my favourite, In my experience it has similar performance (bar saturn 😭), and that form factor is just 🤌🏻👌🏻
