I am impressed too, but it can't anticipate bad driving. Case in point: I was stopped at a traffic signal making a left. The light turns green. The oncoming traffic is two lanes on the other side of the traffic signal. The opposing left turn lane is for lefts and going straight. The right turn lane is for rights only. The car in the left lane has its turn signal on to turn in front of me. Their wheels are slightly turned. The Model Y wants to make the left which should have been safe. An idiot at high speed slides right and used the right only lane to go around the turning vehicles illegally traveling straight. If I hadn't taken over anticipating the bad behavior as it was happening the oncoming the car would have t-boned me at high speed. I think the problem is people will assume it can do more than it is capable of and not pay the proper attention required. This is an important limitation to understand especially in our society where the rules only apply to other drivers. Way cool, but not ready for primetime due to entitled humans.

Yeah, 12.3.3 had be grinning like a fool too! Particularly since I haven't seen any real improvement over the past 2 years in my area, and 12.3 actually introduced as many issues as it solved for me, but 12.3.3 fixed most of them. If the progress continues anything like that, it'll be regulator-ready in no time. But, we'll see 🤷‍♂ Either way, absolutely awesome!

8:20 FSD was included when I had my car financed, if that's what you mean. As to why people pay $12K, here's a short and sweet answer: Technology is expensive, but Tesla consistently updates your technology as they improve theirs. Also, what is the price of keeping you, your loved ones, and other motorists safe? People who value their safety would pay whatever price it takes to enhance theirs. BTW, you were right; it is "braked"! Broke is the past tense of "break".

The reason the new full self driving is worth it to me is night driving. There are many drivers who are not confident driving at night. This new system gives drivers like me the freedom to drive at night. Before your free sample expires you should do a video of its night driving. If you were impressed by it’s daytime driving, multiply that times two at night. It will surprise you because it sees things at night the driver does not see.

What I liked the most is that you can influence FSD without taking over completely. If you put a blinker on while it runs, it will attempt to respect your command (if you want it to leave the passing lane for instance). Or in the city, if it hesitates too much you can press the accelerator a little bit to indicate confidence (for instance of another drive waves at you to signal you to go)

Honestly I’m less than impressed. FSD had trouble with construction zones, mistakes a RR crossing light for a red light even though it wasn’t activated. It doesn’t recognize a red light up ahead so speeds up excessively and then brakes hard once it notes the light is red. And makes turns like a 95 yo in an old Cadillac. Having said that FSD does well with the routine driving and roads. Clearly not ready for prime time or $10K.
@mikeoberg1

Overall, V12.3.3 and, maybe, 12.3.4 (I haven't driven it as much yet) do a pretty good job of general city driving, with the exceptions of parking (will NOT do diagonal parking) and speed control (too much acceleration and braking throughout the drive). Today, 12.3.4 stopped at a yellow light that does not turn green, only red when you must stop). Previous versions had no problem.

I find that the only ones who seem fake or biased in their reviews are the overly negative ones and those who are sponsored by other brands that compete with Tesla. If they show unedited drives and mistakes or disengagements now and then, they are legit. This youtuber has way too many edits and is obviously biased more on the negative side. FSwd 12.3 might increase the value and a functional FSD (level 3, not even 4 or 5) would increas it even more they offers to carry over FSD from one car to another were limited in time and of course just a way to offer something in return fro people who paid for nothing. if you pas FSD and you absolutely want it in your next tesla wirhout paying twice you have the easy way thats not guaranteed, wait for the offer to pop up again in X months when tesla needs to move inventory or the hard way, sue tesla...

When people say FSD is dangerous or still not good enough, i always tell them: compare it to a 16 year old that is just learning to drive. My girlfriend actually started driving a few weeks ago and when i compare her current skills on the road with those of this version of FSD, the computer is actually better than my girlfriend (i hope she doesn't read this comment 😂). So saying FSD is dangerous and should not be allowed would mean we should also not allow that 16 year old new drivers should be allowed to drive on public roads, which is of course silly because they have to learn it one day. And the big advantage of FSD is that there is always an experienced driver behind the wheel that can immediately intervene. When a 16 year old learns to drive, you can only pull the parking brake as a passenger, so it is much more dangerous.

One typically overlooked feature of FSD will be its applicability to senior/elderly/handicapped drivers that either shouldn't be driving, else choose not to drive. This boomer population has the money to fork over and we will do so in order to retains some of our otherwise lost drive freedom. This is the future for TaaS. My next vehicle will be a Tesla with FSD within the next two years. By then, FSD should be at the Robo-level of level 5 autonomy. This will be a massive safety improvement for people too old to drive or people with handicaps, etc.

One of the reasons folks may opt for FSD is transportation freedom. When I get to an age where my eyesight, reaction time, cognitive ability, etc, are no longer good enough to drive a car, FSD will offer me the freedom to not rely on anyone else to go somewhere (and not rely on Uber drivers). I can tell the car to go to "pizza", "bank", "home", etc. once these are saved destinations. I get to drive a fun car now, and it'll take over when I'm not safe anymore.

great video!, here's my perspective on it after owning fsd for 2 yrs, for me personally it's worth every penny for a few reasons, 1) when driving in new regions, cities, or highway overpasses, it always chooses the right lane and fork, i never have to look at a map and even if you have gps and the lane markings showing in the nav without fsd, it's still super stressful to have to figure out road signs, one way roads, lane exits, onramps, airports etc in 1-3 seconds on the fly. I havent had to do that in 2 years which is unbelievable. 2) I drove from east coast to west coast california 2 weeks ago and without fsd i would have only been able to drive 4 hours max, it's just mentally exhausting, i was able to actualy do 8-12 hrs of driving a day for 4 days without breaking a sweat or feeling uncomfortable. 3) It's hard to convey but i doubt i'll ever own another car letalone non-tesla without fsd going forward, I've grown so use to it, it feels like going from GPS to using road maps for everything. Also being a technology fanatic helps and making enough money that 10k isnt a big deal. Dont most bmw owners pay 10k in optional upgrades on average?

I've only taken over a few times; once for following too close on a country road and once for almost running over traffic cones due to a closed lane. FSD handles 95%+ of my driving situations well, including country roads with no right line. It handles roundabouts well, and I was impressed it moved over to pass a guy on a scooter. I agree with Gjeebs that it's not worth $12K. I can see subscribing for a long road trip.

I won't be paying the $12K but I will be subscribing on a regular basis. One other thing to think about longterm with FSD: insurance. It won't be long before enabling FSD in your car will be as integral as having seat belts. In any accident, one of the 1st things insurance companies will start looking at is: who was not using FSD? We are at such an early point (I know, I know...they've been calling it FSD for what? 6 years now? Patience, grasshopper...this thing is big!) The robotaxi thing may or may not happen. Before then, tho, every car will have FSD and (as I see the future) it will have been licensed from Tesla. Hell, I think Tesla will even stop making cars...it'll sell its very modern manufacturing properties to someone because it has nothing else to prove and just get into licensing the software that makes the cars better and the energy production and storage business to keep the cars running. That's just the way I see it.

Prior to this recent free FSD, I've only had the previous version as a short 3 month demo/trial. I would agree the update is a huge leap forward in FSD. Like most I'm guessing, I'm not a buyer at the 12k price point but that's only because it doesn't fit my current use of the car. One nuance I found very nice while in FSD, I noticed the car slowed at a particularly rough railroad crossing. The prior version did not slow and which I sent in the anonymous feedback. Not sure it does this at every railroad crossing but was something I liked as part of this update at this particular crossing.

I drove 260 miles yesterday and my Model 3 with FSD sensors and computer committed FOUR potentially FATAL totally unwarranted freak out slams on it’s brakes, one of which damned near resulted in a car rear-ending me! That is ridiculously common thing, all but one of those yesterday occurring on rural interstate highways. This is my second Tesla. I traded my 2020 for a 2023 because I had the $8000 price for the FSD package and I got a good part of that and was able to recover part of that with the trade-in. I don’t think the government will ever approve the Tesla FSD system, at least in the near term. But even if the government did, I don’t think I would ever pay the price. Elon seems to think it’s worth $XX,XXX dollars. Maybe it would be for those who drive 24/7. But not for most people IMO. And as long as they can’t solve the phantom braking bullshit, it is total vaporware. BTW, I am not a Tesla hater, even if I was yesterday while my car was slamming on the brakes. Until the cameras can clean themselves, it won't happen fully. However, I love how far FSD had come so far and look forward to additional improvements. One major difference between Tesla's approach and others is that Tesla's FSD will work on any roads but most other systems require specific roads or routes in order to engage.

There's quite a few videos of cars stopping to avoid side collisions and getting back in lane after a collision to avoid secondary wrecks. I've personally observed my car cancelling a lane merge when a vehicle behind me and two places away decided it wanted to have that position. That's not something i may have caught in time. 3:45. I wonder if FSD is universally using the middle lane as a merge nationwide or locally. At least when I was doing drivers’ education in Texas, that middle lane merge maneuver is not allowed by the handbook. 7:45 open pilot is estimated to cost $1500 with the Aptera. That is no where near as capable as the FSD Beta. I would personally pay up to 8k for this feature on the promise that the car will become fully autonomous and drop off/pick up at store fronts, or even take me to the airport and come back to my house. 12k is definitely super expensive, but your 2k is undervaluing it way too much. It will happily remain in someone's blind spot for no reason. 5. It drives through yellow lights that have already turned red (i.e. illegal). 6. It takes too long to stop at stop signs. 7. It cannot see as far as YOU can. 8. It cannot make decisions as fast as you... you can tell because it hasn't moved yet BUT you will already know what to do next... 8. It slows down on the highway when it's already driven past the exit it wants to take. 9. It's acceleration and braking is not as smooth as me. And this is only 7 days of observations, if I used it for a whole year I would surely notice even more failings.

$12k is way too much until it's fully baked. I think $3k-$5k is the right price. Tesla has this FSD trump card up their sleeve that competitors can't match, but not only are they holding it back from their customers, they've made it prohibitively expensive.

Agreed. All the people I've talked to said FSD is cool but they don't fully trust it due to some issues here and there + it is WAY too expensive considering the price is like 20-25% the price of their MY lol. Even the $200 per month subscription was a no from them. Though I think the $200 per month has great potential during summer where people could subscribe for 2-3 months and then cancel. I personally would do that instead of paying $12k upfront so that you only pay $400-$600 per year for using it during things like summer family trips.

I am using it daily to go to work and come back home at night. I have used V11 for a year and now V12. V11 had some predictable problems so I just pay attention for 1 second and the car did it all by itself. V12 it fixed everything. About price what kind life satisfaction do you get for 10 years daily basis free from driving( tired, sleepy, distraction without your intentions) at 12,000. I would keep my car at least 10 years. If you can afford , it is bargain You have to experience it. Once you know the values you get from daily basis, you would not be a happy camper without it 😅

You can also have the driving visualization full screen. Just put your finger at the display division between the visualization and the map and slide it to the right side using the whole screen overlapping the map. This allows you see further and more surrounds around the car.

Dude the fact that you're saying that the FSD option should be priced at $3,000, while we're about to achieve Level 5 autonomy, goes to show how people severely undervalue the income potential of this software. It's a trade off. Pay $12,000 today, then have your car generate enough income per year for you to quit your job. Sounds pretty good to me. (Yes, the numbers can get that good) That's why I think it makes sense that mostly autonomous fleets would own the vast majority of autonomous vehicles and not individuals for the most part.

That construction at the 13 min mark is no joke, it curves a lot with feint lines, and as you saw ppl go 60-80 in that 55 constantly! Also, this video just literally circling around my apartment in Tempe haha, these roads are all my daily commute around Tempe/Scottsdale! I got a ticket behind that fascinations!

Looks like it works well for you in the city, express ways, and well marked lanes. Down here it's impossible to go anywhere without hitting roadworks, cones, stop/go men, lowered speed limits, and unmarked lanes I don't fancy automated driving through that.

100% Best FSD video I've seen thus far. My 2023 Model Y LR (Austin built) got the supervised fsd last weekend. My experience is similar to yours. The most frustrating thing I experienced is that it slows down too soon resulting in cars behind me getting frustrated with my car.

I can see a function of FSD working on a social-input system from other FSD users, similar to Waze. This would be awesome if it did this so that FSD could go around potholes, slow for road construction, or slow for speed traps.

Great review! You got me to try out the self driving trial on my '21 Model 3, and it was impressive. I took it on a short drive within the mountain community where I live, and it messed up once on a fairly tight curve by slightly leaving the pavement. Otherwise no issues. I don't see how I would use the feature, mainly because I'm a terrible passenger and I was on edge the whole time, ready to take over. Maybe it's something I'd get used to, but I think I'd rather drive myself. It would be great for someone who couldn't otherwise drive, like the legally blind or the very elderly that need to stop driving. That's not in the cards right now, but maybe down the road.

Got the Month as well. I am enjoying it as an alternative for lane assist. I like the aggressive acceleration at stop signs, and lights. But i turn off FSD on complicated stop signs, and parking lots, and anywhere that the car drives to cautiously because it is a more complicated situation. easier to just drive the car normally 😂

I was given my one-month trial a few days ago and it is nice to experiment with. The problem is that the town I live in is only about 11k population so it's a 5-7 min drive anywhere in town! Plus, after the winter the lane paint is all but gone so the car often rides between the two lanes without picking one of the other. And the paint for a left-turn lane is faded so the car takes a jerky movement at the last second to go into the left lane. Maybe in a couple months I will try a 1-month subscription when the street lanes are freshly painted. I know as a Canadian, I am not paying 16K in CAD for it! Great video!

11:00 The "value" is that it frees up mental reserves so that you can concentrate more on other potential sources of danger. For example, while it's busy controlling the speed and steering adjustments required to change lanes, you can be more attentive to oncoming cars in the neighboring lane. It's the same benefit that any assistive driving technology provides, like lane-keep assist or adaptive cruise control, just to a much greater extreme.

Found out I got it today. It was much better than I expected especially in LA traffic. I only had to intervene a couple times. Once when fsd did a lane change and another car was merging into the same lane. I didn’t trust fsd or the other driver. The other time was on a freeway onramp with the metered traffic lights on. It saw the green and started to go then the red light appeared quickly and it stopped just ahead of the light. Then it couldn’t see the green light after and just sat there. This is gonna get a lot of people hooked on fsd. Good marketing move by Tesla.

15:20 - Via an OTA update, my M Y now parks autonomously. Driver still has to be in driver’s seat, but I have tried it thrice and all three times is was exactly in the center of a nearby parking spot. I suspect it won’t be long before it can find any spot in any parking lot, and parking garage soon after.

Have FSD on my 22 MYLR. Why? With neck issues, it allows a certain level of relaxing while still being engaged. But most importantly, did NOT pay $12k. Purchased it used from Tesla about 6 weeks ago and may have paid a $4k premium for FSD and Acceleration Boost as included in the price. Total win!
