Why would you want your jump to be B and whip to be A? That’s backwards of what the original controls were on the nes. I wonder if the European shop version runs the pal version of the games or if they’re all ntsc because your footage looks like 30 FPS instead of the original 60fps

And then all of the 3d games for the PS1, N64, PS2 could be on another collection. The Famicom games can get thrown in there as well. Now that is something that would nvr happen.

A compilation of rondo of blood and sotn was released for PS4 and other consoles before this collection called Castlevania Requiem. I don't know why more people don't know about this

Mackenzie Layne Castlevania Legends was decent as a Gameboy title, but it was completely written out of the canon and swept under the rug (due to the events conflicting with many parts of the lore). Kid Dracula gets a pass as it is the first time it's been localized (as the Famicom version, not the Gameboy version), plus it's silly enough to be set aside. Requiem will probably get a port in the future, removing the need to include Rondo or SotN in this and future collections. The next Collection might focus on the GBA/DS era. The DS games might be tricky to port, but those games barely use the touch screen. And the things they can do could be done by the ZL/ZR buttons and right stick. :)

My guess is that it was not included because SoTN marks the departure from the regular castlevania formula. AVGN basically put it best, although I will say I personally think the RPG elements are an amazing addition.

You can beat Simon's Quest in much less if you know what to do. There's a hacked version with better dialogue floating around somewhere, AND a complete remake called Simon's Quest Revamped. Give them a try. Meanwhile Konami can't even give us a port of the Famicon version for this collection. Hopefully they will after fixing CV3

1 thru 3, the b being whip and A jump is definatly something u gotta get used to but its bc the NES was whip B on leftand jump A on right. Obv they werent at a diagonal lineup and were horizontally next to one another, but they mimicked nes controls and those games didnt have built in custom sets so it stuck. Going from 4 or BL my opinion the best here, to 1 or 3 is tricky.

My first videogame (Christmas 1990) was Castlevania. To this day that's the game that holds the dearest place in my heart and I am so excited to pick this collection up. The only 2 games here I'm unfamiliar with are Belmont's Revenge and (of course) Kid Dracula. My small complaint might've been the aspect ratio choices... the default ones for literally every game besides the GB ones aren't my recommended ones, I typically go for the 4:3 Scanlines. Other than that, awesome. I should mention that the game SAVES your ratios when you exit out of a game to go to another one, etc, unlike the Arcade classics collection.

You should start with Symphony of the Night if possible. These ones are good but gameplay can be archiac at times. Symphony is way more modern friendly, and my personal favorite.

I've had a couple of problems with mine. There's a weird little beep that the original Castlevania makes a bunch. Heard it the most in Medusa's levels, but I can live with it. Unfortunately, the game later FROZE WHILE I WAS FIGHTING DRACULA and I had to start over FROM THE BEGINNING. So now, even though I can play through the game in one sitting, I make sure to make save states anyway.

No button config is a huge issue for me. It annoys me that even the Sega Genesis Collection doesn’t have it, and even the NES games on the Switch don’t have it either. For the 4 face button style controller, I always preferred Y as my Attack and B as my jump.

If it is a collection of games or an indie game then I just buy it digitally. @@NJindypro I'm not too sure about the "Not owning" thing. It's not like when the game is taken off the Eshops digital shelves it like, has the game taken away from you. As long as you save it to the cloud or whatever, you should be fine. BUT if the game is taken off digital shelves, its over. You can no longer play the game. Scott Pilgrim vs the World is the most tragic example of this.

Good to see this was handled better than the butchered Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection, but there are still some baffling omissions. Like why didn't Konami include the Game Boy Color versions of The Adventure and Belmont's Revenge or at least have them as an extra color filter option? These versions were properly colored in and look much better than the original Game Boy versions with the included color filter. And where is original MSX version of Vampire Killer, it is after all a celebration of the origins of the series. It would've been a much more fitting inclusion than Kid Dracula and would've made it an instant buy for me.

There's also been crashing problems like on Castlevania 1, the game crashes on Stage 5 when there's too many enemies / objects on screen. That doesn't help the collection either but apart from that and the lack of control options, it's a pretty good collection of games.

Castlevania Bloodlines has unusually muddy audio for M2 emulating the YM2612. And I feel like SCIV’s audio is missing its filter or not interpolated enough. Otherwise it seems to be alright.

6:00 - I don't get it Shawn, B to jump and A to whip? Isn't that kinda awkward considering on the original NES controller B was whip and A was jump, you know just like on the config you were just complaining about. On every NES platforming games (except Dragon's Lair which sucks), the A button has always been the jump button.

Okay so your comment is old but lets break down why people want B to jump and A or Y to attack. People like B as a jump on this button diamond because B is at the bottom. Same reason B is often jump on the DS and 3DS. People find it easier to jump with the lowest button so they can thumb roll to A or Y to do other actions. A lot of people tend to rest their thumb in a way to be low so the B button being the low one makes it flow a bit better with the B being at the bottom. A is not the lowest button. They copied the layout of the DS and 3DS buttons. They copied the NES buttons but this often messes with people that like the low button as jump now that A and B are flipped from most Nintendo consoles.

There is a way you can change the buttons, I've done it myself & I have A as jump & B as whip, it happened after I changed them in Super Castlevania & the rest of the games changed too
