Don't sleep on Order of Ecclesia and Portrait of Ruin. Played both of those games back when they originally came out and they both have unique and engrossing mechanics. So much love and passion were poured into all these games, arguably even more than the GBA games that preceded them. And I still have my physical copies of all those games to this day, so I'm not playing favorites.

The games are listed on the game select screen "backwards" because they are in order of which events the games take place within the Castlevania universe. Order of Ecclesia takes place in the late 1800s, Portrait of Ruin takes place in 1944, and finally Dawn of Sorrow takes place in the year 2036.

I’ve beaten all these games and I love all these games. Portrait of Ruin was actually my first Castlevania game and man I was instantly hooked. All 3 of these games are some of the finest ever made, I just have that special place in my heart for Portrait of Ruin. If you are a gamer of literally any kind, this is an absolute must buy. These games sell for $80-$100 or more each nowadays so this price of $25 is an insane value.

Yes it's a Castlevania game, in fact...it came out 2 years AFTER the OG Castlevania in Japan, Haunted Castle was released in 1988, while the first game in the Castlevania franchise was released in 1986 in Japan...so it's NOT the precursor game.

I still enjoy getting them on the switch as it's a modern system with both options for handheld and tv gaming. Yes, I'm buying the same games again, but it beats pulling out a system that is 30 years old and messing with it. If the next switch has backwards compatibility I'm going to be able to play my retro games all on one system well into the future.

The funny thing is, I found out about this collection from your Castlevania Advance collection video. I left a post a while back hoping for a DS collection follow-up, and someone was kind enough to leave a reply and let me know that it was indeed a reality. Needless to say, I purchased it right away. I love this collection. My only gripe is, i wish there was an option for a single-screen or full screen mode. The dual screens hogging up the right side can be a bit distracting at points.

Requiem was developed by Sony so that won't happen. However, M2 could develope a "Chronicles Collection", including the Rondo remake (includes classic Rondo) and Castlevania Chronicles (which includes the classic and arrangement mode) and SOTN as a bonus.

M2 has been getting better and better at these collections. Like, with all the quality of life additions (quick saves, adjusted buttonprompts and touch controls, ingame compendium, separate audio volumes for music and sound effects, ability to choose Japanese or English audio, high resolution fmv's, all info screens viewable at all times + all of the bonus content) these are the definitive editions of the DS games. You can't do this with simple emulation. 9:30 Small note, the optional touch screen controls also translate well to PC, as they work perfect on the Steam Deck and translate pretty well to mouse.

If you bought a PS5 or Series X at launch or even in the first year, you made a stupid mistake. What threw off this generation was people paying scalpers $800 for consoles that don't have ANY games developed for them that are worth playing. Real gamers go where the games are, and that's PS4. I don't "break out my wallet" if there isn't anything TO break it. I just beat Sekiro on my PS4 and had a fabulous time. Don't need a PS5. You can enjoy your paperweight in the future alone. Get this on the steam jack because PC games you don't have to worry about backwards compatibility. I still play old PC games on my current PC even though they are old and so if they were out on the current console at the time they wouldn't be playable on the current console from that same company. Specifically Frogger on the PS1 can't be played on a PS4 or 5 yet I can play Frogger on my computer. The opposite is also true some people were saying you can't play this Castlevania collection on a PS4 or an Xbox One only on a series system or a PS5 and yet I bet you if I were to buy this collection I'd be able to play it on my computer which I built in 2016 before the PS5 or Xbox Series even came out.

Bruh the Japanese title for Haunted Castle is literally what the franchise is called in Japan,”Akumajo Dracula.” So it didn’t inspire the series, it is literally Castlevania with a different name for American audiences. Most Japanese companies don’t change a games name anymore, but it was very common back in the day. Like Secret of Mana is Seikendensetsu. Dragon Warrior is/was Dragon Quest. Pokemon is Pocket Monsters. Should I go on? Haunted Castle is Castlevania (aka Akumajo Dracula).

I lean much more in favor of PoR over DoS. I played DoS about six times, PoR 22 times and OoE 4 times. I really disliked the touch screen being forced in early DS games (and early Vita games too). Overall I never used the maticore tail. I might try it out on this play through. It's honestly a shame that 2D Castlevania ended here. Yeah ... I don't count that garbage on the 3DS as a proper Castlevania game.

I'm so thrilled about this compendium! So, I've only ever placed two Castlevanias from the GBA-through-DS era: Circle of the Moon, which I was obsessed with, and Portrait of Ruin which was also great. It's been surprising, in this era of Castlevania collections, to realise just how many handheld games there have been in the series, because there's been a bunch in these collections that I never knew existed! And those I did know about during the life cycle of their handhelds, I mostly wasn't able to get my hands on, because by the time I heard about them copies were already thin on the ground and beyond my price range. I feel like I've got a real treat waiting for me here, and I'm going to start with Order of Ecclesia because you've just enthused me right into it!

I just want to be neck deep in Castlevania. And all the collections make it so affordably easy. Hoping for Rondo of Blood, and Symphony of the Night collection on pc and non sony consoles at some point.

I find it kind of interesting that they broke up the "of Sorrow" games between the two collections. And where the heck is Symphony of the Night That's the one game that we're missing a re-release of since the last time it was really released I know it was on the 360. If Symphony of the night and that game that makes you play as Richter Belmont I believe it's rondo of blood? If those games were on PC I would totally buy them. I mentioned Symphony of the night just because It's the only major Castlevania game that's missing now everything else is something they don't think would sell as well like a lords of shadow game or the multiplayer one on 360. I do hope though that the bonus game for Symphony kf the Night is The Adventure Rebirth cuz where else would they put that game and its a good one?

What's cool with the DS is that the screen is 4:3 which means it can more easily be ported. We can use the black bars on the side created by the aspect ratio difference to put the additionnal info of the second screen.

It would be good if Konami made a revisited version for Switch of Nocturne in the Moonlight and the original one that came out for Sega Saturn, but that looks better or the same as SOTN on Playstation!

While I still like Symphony more, I feel that's mostly just nostalgia talking, because these are some of the best vania games out there. I definitely recommend this collection on Switch.

I think the ordering of the games in the UI is based on in-game chronology rather than publication chronology. Order of Ecclesias takes place in the 1800s after the Belmonts have been cursed to be unable to wield the Vampire Killer whip. Portrait of Ruin takes place in World War II. And Dawn of Sorrow takes place a year after Aria of Sorrow, so 2036.
