I just want to take a minute to thank you for doing this video. You saved me $4800.00. I purchased a board online for $165.00 and installed it myself! I had received a quote of $4800.00 to replace the furnace or $850 to replace the board with no guarantee that it would work on my 20 year old furnace. Your video gave me confidence to replace this myself and I am very grateful! I bought an extra board just incase as a backup as I am worried that they may stop making the part. Thanks again you made a great impact!

For the thermostat wires I usually take a piece of tape and run across the front and back of the whole group to keep them in their current position and also take a picture beforehand or write it down to make sure everything goes back in the same place.

This is a really good video. Thank you for showing the fuse. In my case, it was the 3 amp fuse that blew. Makes sense as in my case was out redressing wires outside to the AC unit and di not turn off the power. Can understand from my AC configuration how the fuse blew back at the board based on what I was doing, and everything worked prior to my outdoor work. Made sure the fuse socket was 0 ohms. The fuse measured open. It is a purple 3 amp ATC or ATO auto fuse.

Something to note too ted is those plug ends have little tabs on some of the rheem Ruud units you have to squeeze and then pull or they won't come off if your testing an operating good board you can break it

I generally do not do much business, but I changed out a Control Board on a ICP Package Unit. It had gotten hot and a capacitor split all across itself. One resister burned out and many end connectors on the high side melted. I change those connector ends. The indoor fan motor shorted out and caused all problems.
@Donjuan524
@Donjuan524 5 жыл бұрын
The reason some of the spade connectors were so tight is because on a rheem the Un-insulated ones have a little lock tab that you should depress and they come off easy.

I could be 100 percent wrong but I believe the eac terminal energizes anytime fan is called. I want to say it's on a different relay and want to say I jumped it over to eac before and ran it like that. I just dont remember if it's on the same relay

Take out the ink cartridge one of those cheap ballpoint pens and open up the tip just a little to use for a slide to push over those plastic rivets that hold the pc boards. This has worked well for me.

A small piece of 1/4” copper tubing works great to get the plastic push-ins off. Slide it over and pull it out from the back. I always flop the old Board down, mount the new board and then 1 for 1 swap wires

I have replaced some boards and installed many stats. I always wondered if in heat mode when you put the fan on on. Will that override the lower speed for heat. I presumed it would because there is no way for the tstat to communicate that it is in heat mode with only one wire for the blower. It never seemed possible that when you are in heat mode that the board sets a flag for the chip to read either. I just presumed and never checked what happens when a heat call is made.

Question for you. I just replaced my control board thanks to your video; however, I noticed that a previous tech disconnected the P2 terminal (with the white and black wires) and left it that way. The blower motor was changed last year. The AC has been running with that disconnected for the last year or so, it seems. Should I reconnect that? Not sure what the reasoning could have been for them to leave it off, because I don't know what it does.

After tearing apart a lot of relays the contacts get carboned up or blackened until it insulates the contacts and they can't switch on. Some melt the coils but nor many.

How about taking the wire off the old board and immediately putting it on the new board one of the time. That way you won't have to remember anything. But that would only work if the boards were exactly the same.

The plastic or nylon standoffs on the control board are the same ones used and computer Technologies and have been the same Wen utilize for the last 38 to 40 years! Soap are needle-nose is more than sufficient to squeeze the little prongs or the thing that locks it into the board and lift the board pass that little plastic locking tab on each four corners of the board

My cooling speed was set to low. The furnace I have is for 2.5-4 ton. I guess low speed is 1000 CFM. The AC is 2.5 ton. I was told by the installer that it’s a factoring setting that needs adjusting based on static pressure. Otherwise the AC won’t be as efficient and most importantly won’t dehumidify properly.

@petershulick5270

The relays don't create enough amperage to burn the boards unless you have some high amperage points on the board itself or transistor or heat sink or something of that sort or a high heat resistor or possibly a capacitor if there's part of a power supply on the board itself Take it from someone who's been professionally replacing or servicing and repair knees boards for almost 40 years

The control board went bad on my Goodman furnace. Goodman wanted $135 for the board but they wouldn't sell it to me because my license has expired. I managed to find the same board for $69 (free shipping) on Ebay. My neighbor paid an HVAC repair guy $550 to replace the same board. My old, failed board lasted 17 years and the flame detection circuit didn't seem to be working any longer. (The flame sensor was not dirty.) The old flame sensor worked just fine with the new board but I replaced the sensor anyway since the ceramic part of the sensor was cracked.

Patrick S if I had to guess he charged between 4 and 6 hundred for the entire repair which is fair if that’s the case for diagnosis and providing the part at that cost but it all depends on the company and what it takes for him to make a profit on the job everyone has bills to pay so it varies
