I have PSC for over 15 years. Went in remission twice this one being the longest. The ursodoil did not work just made this worst. I changed my diet and food elimination that has worked for me so far thanks be to Go.

I have both dx four years ago and a non responder to Ursodiol for four years now. And I was dx with fatty liver in July basically lifestyle changes and medications are not working for me so ... I HATE THIS. But thank you for making easy to understand information for me to show people because I am so tired of trying to explain both these to people.

Very good explanation to explain a diagnosis of PSC to friends and family who don’t know what it is. Oral vancomycin (OV) is not listed here as a treatment, but I encourage everyone with PSC to look into it. The younger and earlier in the disease process the patient is, the better are the chances of it helping. My son has PSC-UC. High dose OV has changed his life. Not only have his liver enzymes normalized, his UC is also in remission and MRCP imaging has improved, now showing normal liver and bile ducts. Labs improved within the first month of taking it. He’s been taking OV for almost 2 years and it’s now the only medication he takes. It is not a cure and it doesn’t work for every patient, but chances of it working are really good especially of patient is young and also has Ulcerative Colitis. He must remain on it for life. If he lowers his dose or stops, things go in the wrong direction.

Hi, he was started on mesalamine right after initial diagnosis of UC. He was quickly diagnosed with PSC (via MRCP and liver biopsy) within a month of the UC diagnosis. The mesalamine didn’t help much. He still had high Calprotectin levels and continued to be symptomatic. He’s now been on OV for over 2.5 years. His labs, colonoscopies, and MRCPs still look great. He’s never had to take prednisone, in fact the only medication he takes is OV. It put (and keeps) his UC into deep remission, normalized labs, and MRCPs show normal liver and bile ducts.

Unfortunately no there is not a cure. My doctor told me to start drinking coffee cuz It will keep the disease at bay but won't fight it. the only treatment option is a liver transplant. And even then a transplant is not a cure.

Females are more prone to autoimmune diseases, since PBC is more common with those that have autoimmune conditions this is why more females are affected. I hope this helps.

I’m the lucky bloke that got PBC, so 3.5ppl per 100K - shame it’s not a lottery ticket, I would have won if 9/10 that get diagnosed are women, such is life I was gonna die of something anyway, only difference is I know what it likely to be the cause of liver failure. 😂
