Me : Wondering why the whole comment section is talking about their English grades being saved when I'm here as part of my Latin homework where I need to find resemblances between Biden's speech writing and Cicero's. It shows how things may have changed since the Roman Republic but speech writing still uses the same techniques. Rather interesting. :D

Very informative! Can you please do an analysis also on his 2023 speech?

May I ask what you use to so neatly and colorfully mark up the text like this --> 2:50 That is exactly what I need to do for my class but I am not too tech savvy

I’ll defend our democracy. I’ll defend America. And I’ll give all, all of you, keep everything I do in your service, Isnt that a Anaphora
@MsPeerEditor4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is technically anaphora! However, in my opinion, speakers who employ anaphora usually repeat a word or phrase more than twice to place emphasis.

Woah what a great analysis I have been making stylistic analysis and main focus is stylistic device which is same with rethorical device. Do you think it's really the same device or is there any difference between stylistic and rethorical device?

wouldn't 11:38 be juxtaposition not antithesis?
@MsPeerEditor3 жыл бұрын
That's a great question! It's both. Antithesis can be used to juxtapose different concepts. This video explains what antithesis is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2eonmuJd5t6iLs

Was there in pathos in this speech?
@MsPeerEditor4 жыл бұрын
Yes, there definitely is! President Biden appeals to the audience's sense of pride, patriotism, hope, and other emotions throughout the speech.

You forgot an Allusion to the Texas Pledge. In the Texas pledge, it says "texas, one state, under God, indivisible". But my question is why is he making reference to texas?
@MsPeerEditor3 жыл бұрын
I believe that he is alluding to the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance in general, since he says, "one nation, under God, indivisible," which is taken directly from that pledge.

It was great! Isn't an allusion something that's implicit. I was curious bc the one you highlighted as a biblical allusion clearly states that it's from the bible.
@MsPeerEditor3 жыл бұрын
Good question! Some people argue that allusions must be implicit, whereas others argue that an allusion can either be explicit (meaning that the work itself is directly mentioned) or implicit. I called this quote from the Bible an allusion, but you can also call it a citation or a reference.
