Nate, thank you for the great content. Can I ask, is there any sort of force-axis in Rhino (similar to arrow-keys in SketchUp)? I'm trying to understand how you draw in open 3D perspective space (as opposed to drawing on a plane or snapping to existing points). None of the Rhino videos show this being done, despite this being the simple basis of drawing in SketchUp. Thank you in advance.

Shift forces the axis in the X&Y and ctrl forces it in the Z direction
@InspiredScience Жыл бұрын
@@Iriesu - Thank you. Is there a difference between CNTRL to force to Z-axis -vs- the "elevator" feature? Thanks again!
@Iriesu Жыл бұрын
@@InspiredScience Yes they are different, While holding control and moving the cursor up it's basically identical to the up arrow key in SKP. Elevator mode is when you hold ctrl and click another point, this forces the selection to allign to the selected point. Think of it as snapping to a horizontal guideline in SKP. Im sure I explained this horribly. But in summary : > Holding CTRL while moving your cursor WITHOUT CLICKING = SKP up arrow key > Holding CTRL while moving your cursor and CLICKING another point activates elevator mode relative to the clicked point. I invite you to try it it's very intuitive once u do it manually :)

@@Iriesu - Thank you SO much! Your insight has been extremely valuable. Every time I begin watching a video to learn Rhino, I get frustrated how every one of them (even the "for Sketchup" videos) always draw in one of the display-planes or on an object and I've never witnessed one drawing in perspective as is common in SketchUp. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your input or how helpful it has been. One more quick follow-up. In SketchUp terms, I believe your CTRL + CLICK could be referred to as "UP + Inferencing" in SketchUp. Based on that, I'm guessing SHIFT + CLICK might be X/Y + Inferencing based on your prior post? I'll re-install Rhino now and give this SketchUp-to-Rhino migration another shot, thanks to you :)

I have tried to work with Vsual arq plug-in but after ralizing that dimensions are not following assigned geometry i stoped using it. For technical drawings i am ending up using revit. I have a problem extruding out the roof, it doesn't extrude out only the roof - the bottom of the shape is stuck to it. Also, when I pulled the building upwards at one corner, the grid on the side of the object dosen't match up on the different sides.
@NatesStudioDesk4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jacob, First, this technique takes a little bit of experimentation in getting to respond, sometimes you have to make an additional edge or extrusion and then extrude that element. You have to make sure that it is a surface, and that you are actually using split face aka creating a line in the surface itself. When you select it, it should only highlight yellow above where you split it. It sounds to me like the surface was never actually split, or completed. I think I know what you are talking about with not matching up the grid and the first thing I can recommend is to rebuild surface if you need the surface to be divided diffrerently. the comand is "rebuild surface". I hope this helps, let me know if you would like to see a follow up video, or any additional videos.

Thank you. I have used both Revit and Archicad (right now the office I am in uses archicad so I have been focusing on that. I can make a video about the rhino grasshopper connection. There is not much out there and it’s taken me some time to learn the integration. It’s frustrating that you can’t create GDL objects natively from grasshopper, since GDL is an annoying script language. You could potentially only use Rhino, and if you wanted to make that more robust use visual arc as an add-on and forget the expensive softwares.

We are trying to find alternatives for the sketch. For more interoperability with revit. I'm trying Rhino, but by now I can't see that it can do the samethings in the same velocity. Do you have any video or something that I can learn how to do modeling in Rhino Faster?

@@davidhenriquecerqueiratrin7225 I would recommend watching my rhino creativity course this will give a nice foundation and creative ways to leverage the tool based on how you work. You will get there in terms of velocity and speed, it’s a learning curve but over time you will appreciate the capabilities of drafting (curves/lines) and the integration into Revit is getting better and better. Every program will have their quirks and things that you wish they would incorporate but over time you see other ways to model and think about it. My recommendation is be proficient in as many tools as possible :)

When I make a rectangle and I extrude, it only extrude the sides so it comes out hollow(no top or bottom), how do you fix this?
@NatesStudioDesk4 жыл бұрын
First click the object and type "cap" If it says unable to cap, it means that your curves are either non planar, or intersecting. To fix this either type project curves to c-plane or draw new curves and make sure they are not intersecting. Additionally you can type "close curve"
@factor.87954 жыл бұрын

Hello, and thank you for this tutorial. Really, it’s what I was looking for, to quit being afraid of migrating to rhino from SUp... One “little” question: as you make the doorway , you are using split surface command, while in SUp , and it seems more natural, one draws a rectangle that becomes a set of edges on the target surface and then you push it.... pretty simple. In rhino Is there a fast way to “split” surface with a curve, that might be a rectangle, too? Do you have to switch to another cplane to draw such a curve on a surface? Thanks.
@NatesStudioDesk4 жыл бұрын
I will make a short video to answer your question. For now, I think drawing the rectangle in the right or front view and then using trim (command T) to create the opening. you would then be able to adjust those lines using the technique above.
