My Rhino Iguana Tank approves of this message. Something to add. They go through an aggressive phase during adolescence which was the only time that I was ever bitten. That was not an insignificant bite either even as an adolescent.

My wife and her sister grew up with a pair of adult green iguanas. There father said that they were very protective of his daughters especially if they started crying. About 25 years ago, I worked at a pet store that had a full grown male. He shredded two of my fingers when I was taking the water bowl out of his cage. He bit down so hard that his teeth went through my fingernails. It took about 15 years for the scars to finally fade. There were even scars under my nails! But there was blood everywhere, even splattered on the glass of the tank he was in. I left a blood trail from his cage to the bathroom (about 50 feet), I also got extremely ill within 24 hours (salmonella). I handle large lizards regularly, but these guys scare the hell out of me.

I've yet to make an actual piece of armor, but I've made bits of chainmail and used the techniques to make bracelets and necklaces (and keychains, keep forgetting about them). It's not very difficult if you ever want to try, just incredibly tedious for anything larger than palm sized. Fortunately, my only pet at the moment is a crested gecko. No armor required.

I know it's impossible to know, but do you think a lot of your nervousness came from it being a big UNFAMILIAR lizard? Kind of how I am around unknown dogs, but I think if you got to know that specific lizard you'd be cautious but much less afraid everytime it even looked at you. Disagree with you 90% Cyclura can be wonderful pets, if you have room for a tegu, you can house a Cyclura, additionally, the vegetarian diet over the omnivorous diet is a bonus for some of us...I'd rather clean the poop of a dozen Cyclura than the poop of 1 tegu.

With big lizards it’s better to just let them wonder around your house like a dog then to give them a cage or keep them outside if you can with my tegu I have a corner where all his lights are right ware my bed is so if he wants heat or uvb he can go over there but otherwise he wonders my home like a dog

For an iguana these are amazing lizards. They are not prone to biting, they actually enjoy being pet, and are highly intelligent. They learn their name and will come when called. Honestly I feel you have them a very low score based off of them being in the iguana family.

The score is an average of the scores from the five categories. They were not penalized for being iguanas. They were penalized for being big, expensive, rare, and somewhat dangerous lizards.

@@ClintsReptiles I agree they are big, expensive, and rare but com ppl lately disagree that they are at all dangerous. With socialization they are absolutely amazing. Again this is a species that is extremely intelligent and as a result is extremely easy to work with. While I agree they cant really be handled due to their size they can be very sociable. They can be walked on a leash just like a tegu and taken out side which has a huge amount of benefits for them. I've seen hundreds if not thousands of these guys and have never seen one that was dangerous in any way. We can agree to disagree here on them and this is the only one I've disagreed with you on. You do an amazing job with all of the animals you talk about but I'd suggest you look into these guys more and see how awesome they actually are.

These videos take a lot of time and effort to put together. A simple bug wouldn't give us enough time. We have a device that predicts your thoughts weeks in advance so we can deliver right when you first have the thought. It is amazing!

I saw a rhinoceros iguana today in the flesh for the first time and WOW it was incredible. It lived full time in a reptile shop but had a HUGE enclosure that I could gladly have lived in myself with a tree and such 😂

I liked the video a lot but I do have to disagree on one point. You don't really need a giant water bowl for them to soak in. What a lot of cyclura owners do is give them a bath in the bath tub and that work great since you can control the temperature, it can be part of the taming process, and you can also drain it and fill it back up very easily! Or if you don't have a bathtub, you can just fill up a plastic tub and soak them in there. When are you going to do a video on the lewisi hybrids? From what I have seen from owning one, working for a breeder, and being part of a facebook group for them, the rhinos seem to be a bit more aggressive and likely to bite than the lewisi hyrbids and I personally think they don't make as good pets as either the lewisi hybrids or the cuban iguanas. I would love to hear your thoughts.

I bought mine on an Impulse 2 years ago . The first two years have been quite excessive in the violence I've experienced from this thing but it has slowly gotten better. This morning I woke up to quite a surprise as I thought that I had a 2-year-old male rhino iguana since purchase but yet I woke up this morning to two eggs in the cage and when I brought it to the place I bought it to to confirm if the eggs are fertile or not she laid another egg on my shoulder iguana to a female rhino iguana but luckily I named it a unisex name so I don't have to worry about changing the name but now I'm definitely interested in breeding after this experience

I've had greens and now have a blue, I would give them much more credit. How do cats and dogs rank? If you compare by numbers they should not rank high. Iguana do not bite unless you as a human mess up. I think they are a solid 4, id rank cat or dog much lower but they are both common pets. Compare by numbers the iguana unless it's an odd mean one won't bite even if they are showing they would it's almost always a bluff. Dogs and cat can be horrible and bite ,claw just a reaction and I love them I'll never have a better dog than my first chessie but I had to watch her around anyone she didn't know and some she did. Even my mom wanted me to get an iguana over anything else, I had my first when I was 6. My lewisi is great but I did get bit when I put a harness on him. He doesn't like to be confined, I can't fault that I don't want that either.

One of my favorite big lizards 🖤 torn between one of these or a tegu once my boyfriend and I get a house. I fell in love with a little female my friend has for sale, I usually plop her over my shoulder and sit in a chair with her and she goes right to sleep.

These videos MASSIVLY overstate how "dangerous" these lizards are. If you interact with the lizard properly it wont bite you, if you pick them up properly they wont scratch you... all there is to it. The only way I could get my Tegu or Iguana to bite me would be to pry their mouths open and stick my finger in. As for holding them, you pick them up against your chest, or cradle them. If they feel secure, they don't flail their arms or legs or tail, and thus no scratches or bites. I can pick them up shirtless no problem.
