Yes it did. Valerie even said in her autobio that she wished she'd gotten a final episode to wrap up the character of Rhoda. But it was beyond her control. The ratings had supposedly tanked badly by that point and the network pulled the show during the Xmas holiday hiatus. They never went back after the holidays and it was replaced with some other show. She'd have to wait 22 more years before getting to play Rhoda again!

Thanks so much for airing these episodes, AND without ads! I LOVED Rhoda as a young teen, watching her first on the Mary Tyler Moore show, then getting her own show. I didn't want to be Mary, I wanted to be Rhoda. Rhoda was beautiful, so funny, and I loved her style. I even wore headscarves like her for a time. The main cast was wonderful, with Valerie Harper, Julie Kavner, Nancy Walker & occasionally Harold Gould, and who could forget, Lorenzo Music' Carlton the Doorman! They all had such wonderful chemistry together, all perfectly cast. Then, we had other characters that popped up in different seasons, that were just wonderfully funny, like Nick Lobo with his accordion, Johnny Venture, Gary Levy and others. I think they made a mistake when Rhoda married Joe, and although David Groh, was handsome, he was miscast. I still love shows like this, it's very nostalgia and they bring back many memories. Thanks again!

I never saw this series when I was younger, but I think this was better than Mary's show. I view the latter as a spin-off of the Dick vanDyke show, and I realize there was the need to produce a show for the Feminists of the 70's. Think about how she was supposed to be divorced...and Rhoda had to get separated and then also divorced to get rid of the male figure in the show.

This thing of cancelling a show mid-series was (and still is) alien to us here in the UK. If a programme ever stinks over here, it still has to run its course. Most often, the entire series has already been filmed in any case. I appreciate the US TV channel executives dealt with competition (in this case the success of CHiPs....a programme that didn't catch on in the UK) but this is brutal on the TV audience. So it was low in the ratings, so what?!? At least finish it properly for those who are still watching!!

Susie Alborn was the ever pregnant friend 😄. I was bummed when Gary didn't show up on season 5 but we had to hear, very quickly in one sentence, that he had moved to Chicago. Every character on this show was perfectly cast and so funny! It was almost believable that this was a real group of friends and family. Too bad the shows nowadays aren't funny because of the writers and cast. Laughs are gained from mostly off-color, sexual innuendo jokes or goofy physical stunts that don't take much talent.

Must have been Hollywood putting mental anguish on yet another person to lead them down eating disorder road.
@g-girl98673 жыл бұрын
@@0lds0ul813 I think you are absolutely right. I’ve been wanting to comment regarding this. Both Brenda (Julie) and Rhoda (Valerie) look terrible in comparison to what we all know are their true body shapes and appearance. There’s nothing left to them in these last two seasons, and they continued to get thinner (especially Brenda) in each episode. What I see and have concern for is the mental anguish and emotional turmoil that must have propelled them to continue to drop more weight. Brenda was so cute as her natural self. And what you see on sitcoms today are the same super thin bodied women but now the studios trick the viewer by throwing fake boobs on the actresses to offset their major thinness. That’s what I think anyway. We’ve learned enough about anorexia over the years since this show was popular to see what was happening here in hollyweird and many young girls and women. I think the dieting and mass weight loss these two phenomenal actresses went through these last few seasons affected their acting and mental flow for the characters. Just my opinion.
@0lds0ul8133 жыл бұрын
G-Girl it effected the mental state of the actresses. I look beyond characters. Julie always resonated with me as a person and I see a lot of hurt within her and it just to me is terrible. The manipulation tactics that go into Hollyweird and how they put it in someone’s head that they are “fat”. It’s disgusting. I wish she had more caring individuals around her because I know and can see she did not . She’s not alone. These A LISTERS that are glorified lead extremely depressing lives. Money doesn’t equate self love and soul satisfaction. If one can find a middle ground to act and still remain true to yourself that’s beautiful. But what I see here is years of hurt and comparing herself to the idea of another. It’s sad and I feel that because I know how that feels only not on that large of a platform. Julie seems like a completely genuinely beautiful person . Valerie ... she seemed more into Hollywood than Julie. Julie struggled with it . You can see that . Well if your empathic you can yaknow ? Anyway knowing all this now kind of makes me not like the show as well. I look at it different. But growing up I watched repeats of it and liked the first two seasons the most .

Ray Bucktenica’s weirdo energy ruined Rhoda, Benny should have been cast with someone different. Also: Script supervisor MAI SANTACROCE appears onscreen as INGA in this episode.

Howard Johnsons? 4 got about them.

Yeah, they used to be a staple in the 70's. Funny how people places and things change before you realize they are gone.

I waitressed at one of the Howard Johnsons in Boston MA in what was once called the Combat Zone. You have to know the area, can’t explain it. There I was in my rayon peach dress and white apron and my hair buzz cut to get rid of the hateful perm I had. Great memories.

Brenda still dressing as a cowhand. Glad this is over. Made it thru all 5 seasons, with skipping episodes and taking long breaks, from the whining and obnoxious and immature characters. Never growing. Sorry Rhoda, still love you, though. Will be watching the reruns of Hogan Family. Rest in Love, Valerie Harper❤
