Valerie and Julie seemed like lovely people! Their warmth and quirkiness radiated through into their portrayal of the characters and made the show such a joy to watch at the time, I'm sure., The same goes for the other members of the ensemble. They repeat cheers and similar endlessly in the UK in the mornings on a major terrestrial network (channel 4). . Shows like Rhoda never get a look in. This is still watchable today due to the themes depicted and genteel comedy. the mid/late 70s fashions are a joy to look at too!! Thnaka to the uploader. I wonder.. was this ever shown in the UK during the original years of production! It was shown on paramount comedy / comedy Central UK a few years ago!.

Rhoda is a classic example of a show with great potential that could never decide what it wanted to be. Thus, the parade of flat, uncompelling characters never really gave the audience anyone to really latch on to other than Rhoda and Brenda. It is surprising that the show lasted five seasons.

So sad he dird at such a young age but he did alot of different things: a world traveler and bilinguist in real life. So the only main character left is Julie Kavner age 77. Neurosis isn't funny. Every Character on this show is a neurotic loser. Sorry, I just don't get it. I am surprised that this show was on for so long. I just watched all seasons of the Dick Van Duke Show and the Mary Tyler Moore Show which are still, hysterically funny. This show? Meh.
@tannawannavannabittannawan71386 жыл бұрын
Minx Minx ~~There are a lot of things that aren’t funny in the world and comedy tries to make light of various situations. Every character on here is far from a “neurotic loser.” Rhoda is a lot more realistic in regards to life versus Dick Van Dyke. Dick Van Dyke is that fake “leave it to beaver” world which is completely unrealistic. Everyone is always so cheerful and positive and in the end all the problems have been solved and everyone is happy and hugs. Vomit!! What’s good about that? I have heard over and over from various people growing up in that era that it made them feel badly because their life wasn’t like that at all and they felt like there was something wrong with their family and their life. That’s because it was all so silly and unrealistic. Mary Tyler Moore was a little more realistic but many of the characters still had one foot in that “leave it to beaver” world. With Rhoda the characters are more like real people. They represent realistic situations where everything is not so pretty and people get in really bad ruts. I’m sure you’re not perfect and I’m sure you have been in ruts yourself, and somebody could turn right around and say what a POS and loser you are as well. But that’s not the right way to look at the situation. But maybe you need that Pollyanna element in every show you watch?!. In that case.......no, this isn’t the right show for you at all. You sound like that you are a perfect person with no flaws, so you need perfect programs with perfect people and happy endings always. You should probably get your head out of the clouds and come back down to planet earth.

Are you perfect? No one is perfect but they believe they can be optimistic of themselves and their lives. As for other shows like the Dick Van Dyke and The Mary Tyler Moore, they each had some of their characters that weren't exactly perfect like "Buddy Sorrell" who was constantly putting down Mel Cooley or Richard Deacon all good actors. Also the in the Mary Tytler Moore - let's not forget Cloris Leachman who wasn't able to get her act together and Ted Baxter too. All great actors that made the show.

@@tannawannavannabittannawan7138 You're underestimating DVD and MTM. DVD was 1 of the more progressive sitcoms during the'60s. DVD touched on serious marriage issues between him and Laura. Many adult fights, like between him and Jerry next door. MTM, however lighthearted, still had many rough edges. It was a very groundbreaking sitcom in many ways as we entered the'70s. There was plenty of realism in both these shows. So theres's no comparison to Leave It To Beaver, please! THAT was a FIFTIES pollyanna goody two shoes show about kids. Now Rhoda was a hit at first.
