Quite a morning exploring! Good to keep using the public access trails! You found some nice Welsh nettles plus some beautiful country views. Fun to see the cows and sheep- personally, we love rural walks… North Wales is wonderful! 😄💚💚

Hi Jennifer. This was our very next walk after you commented how great it was to be able to plan your own trails! I think we may have jinxed it! 😂 Oh well, it was still lovely countryside to walk through, even if we didn't get to where we planned. All the best & see you soon👍😊

Hello, Maria and Des! Oh, Des, I totally agree with you! When I travel I LOVE to plan my itineraries in detail. It's absolutely part of the beauty and pleasure of the trip and experience for sure! As always I enjoy beautiful moments with you, my friends admiring amazing places and sceneries. Wales is so attractive to me! Hugs and cheers!! Renata

I know exactly how you feel, Des. I came off Combs Edge on an OS marked path, which led me to a gate saying 'private land, you will be turned back'. The OS path was beyond the gate!!! I ended up going back up Combs Edge and hiking back the way I came. Needless to say, I was perturbed at the end of the hike. Thanks for sharing, Des. I still enjoyed watching.

Cheers Chris👍 Is that the one at the Buxton end? I've often looked at that on the map and thought the line of the path isn't clear on the map near the bottom. I've only ever used the path up to Castle Naze and the one that drops down near the shooting huts (that one gets very overgrown though!) It is the frustrating side to walking in the UK, most definitely! All the best and catch you soon! I'll look forward to watching your Black Edge one. Love Combs Moss👍

@@DesGreene it's on the Combs Reservoir side. Up via Castle Naze and the old Fort across to the Trig and down the Shooting Butts track. It was the end of this track at Allstone Lee Farm where the sign was.

What an ordeal Des! Yes, don't get me started on some bloody landowners.....they are often a bigger menace than the visitors/walkers they criticise and/or try to repel. Apart from the overgrown bits it still looked like decent countryside to walk through. Well done for putting on the OS Maps too, it's a good idea that. Bye for now, Chris
@DesGreene
@DesGreene Жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. I do sympathise that they get an awful lot of idiots accessing their land, but to me that's no excuse for punishing people who treat the countryside with respect. But at the end of the day, these are rights of way and there's no excuse for putting people in danger of injury. I'd usually only record routes on the OS app that I want to share with people, but definitely recorded this a proof of recent use! 😁 There used to be a great app to report poorly maintained rights of way but it has been taken down 😟 I suspect it was constantly bombarded! Anyway, never a wasted day in the countryside. It was still a pleasant morning👍😊

When exploring unknown territory, there's always a risk that something will be obstructive. But it looked very green and pleasant, and the bird song was nice to listen to. Better luck on your next adventure.
@DesGreene
@DesGreene Жыл бұрын
Hi Rachel. Yes, you've had a few blocked rights of way on recents vids! Some area are definitely worse than others. I think in Wales, some of these old rights of way used to be used to get between small communities, but since then have never really been used for leisure walking. No excuse for barbed wire on stiles though! 😟 It was still a fun morning in the countryside though, and probably takes the record as our slowest ever four miles! 😁
@AlanMETALMAN
@AlanMETALMAN Жыл бұрын
Looked nice countryside and some of the best walks are when you accidentally stumble on them but not always the case.....Shame about the private track and its always good to have a Plan B, even though it was really a plan, a bushwhacking adventure indeed. Barbed wire on top of a stile is a disgrace and could have caused an accident, a Saturday morning, 4 mile adventure indeed, cheers Alan

Hi Alan. It was frustrating not being able to get up that hill, even though it was on Access Land. As for that stile...barbed wire across rotten wood! Could have ended up singing soprano! 😂 Oh well, one to put down to experience! All the best & catch you soon👍

Hi Jan. Yes, I probably should have reported it. There used to be a phone app called Pathwatch that you could report blocked rights of way, but it's been taken down unfortunately. It was a frustrating walk, but still a nice morning to be out exploring 👍😊

Well all I can say is well done mate. Great to report use of the path. These are for the use of us all and selfish farmers need to know that they can’t just block off paths and make them dangerous. And some great bushwhacking there too mate. Hope you and Maria have recovered from all those nettles!!!
@DesGreene
@DesGreene Жыл бұрын
Hi Dave. Yes, definitely one for the record and not one to recommend! 😁 Ever get the feeling you're not really wanted? My excellent nettle beating meant Maria didn't get stung once...just bitten by every insect I disturbed and gouged in the arm by a tree branch! At least the foreshortened walk allowed more time to chill out back at the campsite!👍😊

Well Des I would say that sometimes when walks don't go to plan, they can end up being more enjoyable. However, it sounds like you had quite the adventure here, i.e. attacked by a tree, cutting your way through nettles, barbed wire on stiles! 😲😄 I watched your campsite review before this too, seems like a pleasant spot to stay with a pub very handily placed next to it. Purple Moose, great name! 🍺😁
@DesGreene

Hi Patrick. It was a bit of an assault course in the end! Lovely countryside, but frustrating not being able to cross that access land. Mind you, the rights of way weren't exactly welcoming, so the access land is probably wishful thinking! 😁 The Welsh name for Purple Moose is even better...Piws Miws 👍😁

This was great fun. Alot to pick out but you are 100% right on landowners making it hard for walkers to have right of way. Some people really don't want others to enjoy the countryside. The Bush whacking episode was so funny. That lowe alpine backpack now carries trees without any issue 😂 🎒🌳 It doesn't matter that you didn't get to the top but the 2 of you had annadventure. How your wife is ok after her injury. Looked like good fun anyway. Thanks for taking us along with the fun 👍😃👍🥾🥾🎒🥃🥃

Hi Scott. Do you still get that in Scotland, even with Right to Roam you have? Some areas down here, you definitely get the feeling you are just not welcome, even on supposed rights of way! Maria made it through OK, and she has got another arm 😂 She did get bitten by every insect known to man though! They stayed away from the bloke flailing his walking pole through the nettles 👍😁 Hope all is well with you mate! Cheers for watching!👍😊

@DesGreene Tbh there might be isolated incidents and you might get the occasional farmer kicking off a bit. It's more about drivers parking cars in inappropriate places or dangerous areas which farmers and land owners are right to take issue with but on the whole our paths are good, clear and less nettles. You need to come up here and see for yourself 😃😉🥾🥾🎊🎒⛺️ The mad man in the forest hacking away looked scary we def don't have any of them in Scottish forests ahahah. Just unicorns 🦄 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 This video just shows how not every hike goes to plan but you still found a walk and had a laugh. Keep on trekking sir 🥾🥾🥃🥃

Hi Simon. Absolutely true, unless you stick to the main routes. They even get materials supplied by the local authority, so cost isn't even an issue. But the absolute worst is to actively install barbed wire that could injure walkers....that really is unacceptable! Oh well, still a nother lovely day in the countryside!👍😊 All the best to you and yours also!👍👍

One of my pet hates is getting lost whilst hiking! Usually caused by me making directions fit ie after 2 miles turn left at the Farm when you've only walked 1.5 miles before reaching the wrong Farm I then make subsequent directions fit until Im hopelessly lost 😂

Hi Steve. My worst time for getting lost is usually passing through villages and trying to find where footpaths leave! You would really expect that to be the easiest part of a walk, but always seems to catch me 😂 Cheers for watching!👍
