While I fw Jetsons work over the last two years, he didn't program this beat per say. Psilo chopped the sample, placed it in key & sequenced it before Jetson even added the percussion. I'm not mad at this approach though, this is how my workflow unfolds when I sample with my co Producer from time to time. He'll find the sample, chop it up, layer the sample with soundscapes or another instrument & I'll come behind him & add the percussion. I just feel like he should've done majority of the work as this episode showcases him, specifically. Hope he comes back & shows up more of his workflow / talent 💯

While I feel where you coming from Jetson quarterbacked the whole play. He told him which sample to take and you could see he was involved in the whole process. With all due respect I don't think Psilo could've made it bounce the way Jetson did. You could hear Jetson sound on the track from the drums to way he added effects to the sample. He really did produce the track, he just didn't do it the traditional/technical way

What was this???? What he did do...Change the pitch, slapped generic trap drum pattern over it, adjusted the tempo. Maybe put a filter on it.....What he didn't do, outsourced the looping , didn't even chop up the sample( in other words It's exactly what's on the record)... so the source material is doing all the work... Isn't the goal of this show, to show off the art of sampling, creatively taking the source material and making something new with it??? This is not that!

It just goes to show that you don't have to be super talented at beat making, to make a lot of money making beats. It almost seems unfair to all of the beat makers that can do it all, and make strait heat, but never caught a break. It's been said many times, that the music industry is 10% talent, and 90% who you know. I would say that's changed even more now, and it's probably more like 6% talent and 94% who you know.

@@musicenlightened2055 Individuals like Madlib, Al, even DOOM, its so clear they would never come on this show because they are pretty reclusive like figures, and they definitely play into the idea. We've gotten some of the all time greats like Large Professor and 9th but neither of those individuals or really any of the great producers that have been on the show portray themself like the Madlibs. Madlib has always given off a very troubled "genius", mad scientist vibe. Someone who lives and breathes music but doesn't really care about the exposure to the masses. He doesn't have a social media presence, very sparsly given interviews, clearly someone who makes music for themself. As well, and this is a bit off topic, but the best artists often do not give into fan wish fulfillment, they make what they want, do what they want, with very little care for how their fans perceive it. And in the same way, coming onto Rhythm Roulette really is just something to do for the fans, I doubt Mass Appeal is paying these acts, so what do you really gain for participating in what is essentially a game show.

All these young kids do is throw an 808 over everything. Chop up some live drums, rearrange the sample at least. Make it sound consistent FFS!!

New generation? Early rap was over instrumental versions of pre-existing songs, maybe with the drums louder and some scratching. This wasn't that interesting but adding hip hop drums to straight loops is nothing new.

Did he just add drums to a long uninterrupted loop? It felt a bit lazy how he did it. It seemed like he could have done more with the sample if he had chopped it up and rearranged things. Or maybe he did more to it than I realize.

I know this based on time restraints but I would go back to this record and call in a horn player and give him references of my melody to play then send it off to Juicy J and Curren$y, KRIT and Larry June 🤙🏽
