Fantastic talk, AI is the future of technology innovation in all areas of life. It will be a reality in the coming years in both real world applications in healthcare, business, finance, retail, education, work, travel, daily life interactions and transactions, agricultural, industries etc also in research of various avenues! Artificial Intelligence will be Humanity's most innovative and remarkable agent of transformation of our society! I definitely support AI development! 🤓👍

A good start would be to have [British] standards on data, data usage and performance requirements that were model agnostic. Might sound simple, but would go along way in setting guidance in expected behavior et al.

The use of AI in the Operating room, and ER, will replace the music stand to inform the surgent, but on a tablet connected to the network of things. The AI will know in real time what happens on the operating table to assist the surgery. When a patient enters the ER after a traumatic experience, everyone is guessing at the prognosis. The AI is connected to the network of things and has fast access to the medical encyclopedia to make a faster diagnosis. ‘Speed is the difference that AI will make and has made; oh, you know that already, don’t you?’

My take away from this excellent presentation is that the perception of AI in the vast majority of lay people's minds is of a kind of singularity into which we are all slipping, for good reasons or bad reasons. This is not helped by the use of massive, all encompassing systems from specific development locations, some of which are automatically associated with a vision of a sci-fi vision of control and de-humanisation. Many will be aware of the good that could be done and is being done but it all seems to be coming from the same place as if you can't have the good without accepting that the ill intentioned get a go as well. Here we get a totally different view of AI as a tool. Like a scanner or a stethoscope. Something which responsibly minded scientists wish to apply for the good of patients and community. In particular I am grateful for the comparison with the the mis-information crisis caused by the Covid pandemic and references to problems caused by that wall of data and how AI can potentially be the agent by which good and useful data can be directly extracted and utilised.

I just want to know who the “beta” patients will be and will they be informed of risks?

Unfortunately only failures will highlight the risks. So they need to be identified quickly and corrected and not personalized unless appropriate. But remember, little over 100 years ago, amputations were the norm in WWI until M. Curie pushed for XRays on the battlefield. 200 years ago, mercury was used as a treatment. In the US, bacterial theory was not accepted by MD’s until the late 1800’s. I think the true value of AI is the quicker identification of issues. Many doctors depend on their experiences to diagnose as they many only see a condition once in their lifetime, this puts a great burden on them to search the literature instead of helping more patients.

The real world is complicated and dirty. Then the God's of the diode still have difficulties, but processes may be more efficient. Another look toward the future, but limitations, of the present, maybe a drag, through litigation and data source.

AI might work when its properly paired with good quantum computing. But as of now we lack the processing power to make anything greater than a mockery of intelligence.
