My team (Frogbots) have a relic arm very similar to yours, but the x-bars droop and wobble a ton from side to side when turning. How did you manage to make it so stable without two slides for support? Thanks and good luck, hope to see you at Worlds!

Great build plan How do you make and attach the arm to the linear slide

for ur linear slides, how does the string supporting the lift from the servo all the way back to the spool work? Is that a separate string from the string that goes around the bearings?

Are you going to post a video of your competitions? Because I think it would be interesting to see how well it can recover the relic in an actual game with a time limit.

How did u guys get the arm to stay up in that position. The gripper mechanism looks kinda heavy. Great works btw!
@MechanicalParadoxCubed
@MechanicalParadoxCubed 7 жыл бұрын
The REV hardware we used manages to stay upright pretty reliably on their own because they have relatively long support pieces in between every stage. In order to retract the slides, however, we did implement a reverse string in addition to the extension string. Since the reverse string connects to the front of the top stage and remains taut throughout the slides' extension, it provides some additional support to the assembly.

Also, the relic gripper mechanism is fairly heavy because it needed a quarter scale servo to lift the weight. That being said, the slides are able to bear the load, so it all works out pretty well.

Hello I am wondering where I could find how to string and 80 20 liner slide that can move in both directions. What we had was a string attached to the end of the liner slide and ran it threw ball bearings and connected that to motor, but this only allowed us to move out the liner slide and never bring it back in. How do we string it so I can move out and in? Thank you for your time.

What kind of string do you use so that it sticks to the rotator
@MechanicalParadoxCubed
@MechanicalParadoxCubed 7 жыл бұрын
For the relic arm, we used thin nylon cord on this iteration, but on linear slides from previous seasons we have used kevlar cord as well as fishing line. The trick that we used to attach the draw string to the pulley isn't actually based on the type of cord, though. We drilled a small hole into the side of the wheel, fed the cord through, and screwed in a 6/32 screw into the hole. This causes the screw to dig into both the plastic and the cord, which, in our experience, tends to give a pretty reliable hold.

How is the REV hardware working for you guys?
@MechanicalParadoxCubed
@MechanicalParadoxCubed 7 жыл бұрын
The REV hardware has been working really well! We were impressed that they were able to bear the weight of our mechanism and the relic at the end of a 5 stage linear lift with almost entirely stock parts. Although we have not tested out other slide frameworks for this task yet and are sure that there will be multiple good choices this season, the REV kit is definitely a viable option.

The mechanism we used is called a parallelogram lift. Instead of having one rotating arm it has two beams that keep the grabber connection perpendicular to the ground by forming a parallelogram. It is a bit more evident what is happening in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4SmnqGDpcmBZ6c

As of right now, we don't, but we're trying to push to make publicly available instructions for the main robot . It's a bit tough at the moment as we're in the middle of building our competitive robot as well, but our hope is to release them in the near future.
