Bret Hart and Ric Flair buried the hatchet a while back. They have been very complementary towards each other recently. Hart was on Flair's podcast too. They chalked up the antagonism to a misunderstanding. The same thing happened with Foley and Flair. They're good now.

All bullshit aside. Flaire not only outlasted all of his rivals but he also showed he was willing to let himself slip down the card so long as it made sense. Even if you don’t respect him as a person he loves wrestling and genuinely practiced what he preached.

Alex Wright at SuperBrawl V. Roma's story was that he told them he'd put Wright over, but not on TV. Flair or whoever said no problem, but then when he got to the show, he found out Wright was going over. He agreed to do the job, but was very unprofessional in the process and did what he could to make Wright look bad.

During the time that Flair was suspended from WCW, the WWF had a Raw in Charlotte, NC. and Flair almost showed on Raw in the crowed. Bret "the hypocrite" hart is incredibly talented and has a legacy...in terms of wwe and his ringwork. Ric flair has history with dozens of companies. Ric flair has an iconic moveset, if you really think Bret is right them that should also apply to stone cold, the rock, John cena, triple h, undertaker, kane and shawn Michaels.

Yes, Flair's matches had a lot of the same spots in them. But, that meant that somebody who wasn't that great could be put with Flair and they'd look good, because Flair could just guide them through a Flair-by-numbers match where they knew what spots were coming and how to carry them out. It's not as if Bret wasn't guilty of using a lot of the same spots in his matches...

You know Bret wrestled a few matches including a hardcore match against Terry Funk within a 2-3 week period of the match at Starrcade right ? Also Bret CHOSE to do a spot where he put Goldberg in a figure four leg lock around the post outside the ring and hit his head badly on the concrete which may have been the worst concussion he suffered, I’ve always liked Bret but the whole ‘Goldberg ended my career’ thing is a possibility at best rather than fact
@jerrymarshall5965

@ the mule kick was brutal let’s b honest and the ring post spot Goldberg didn’t hold his weight that’s y Bret hit his head albeit he should’ve just skipped the spot cus Goldberg was really green from having nothing but squash matches never honing his in ring work and yes Bret had a few matches afterwards b4 finding how bad it was but that mule kick ended him maybe Goldberg called it late or maybe Bret was 2 dazed to react in time cus of the ring post spot either way that kick ended him no doubt about it
@My19812011
@My19812011 10 күн бұрын
Yes it was definitely a stiff kick and maybe mistimed but these things happen in wrestling even with the best in ring workers, Bret has said himself he knew how bad it was after the match so why have more matches after until getting better and Bret being the in ring general he was should have skipped the figure four spot for sure Bret knew that Goldberg had never had long matches so as much as Bret wanted the masterpiece match should have limited his expectations and done a basis match, it’s not as if WCW from 1995 onwards was known for great in ring work outside of the CW division

I think some of the heat between Flair and Foley went back to 1994 when Flair was booking WCW But not because Foley thought he was a bad booker (which I disagree with, the WCW product was good in both 1989 and the first part of 1994 (before Hogan came in) under Flair), but because Foley spat on the WCW tag team belt while doing a promo in ECW. Flair found out somehow and he got pissed off without actually watching the promo and the context. Foley wasn't long for WCW after that, sticking around for about another 3 months.

Yeah, I'm with Bret and call bull about him being hurt after a match with Warrior. Warrior was stiff, as were some others too, but he never hurt anyone like that. Even if he hated you he wouldn't purposefully hurt anyone. Like Jimmy Hart once said that Warrior was just so intense that when he grabbed you or hits you he could leave you bruised and/or sore. That's it and no one ever needed to see the doctor backstage, missed work, gone to the hospital or had their career ended because of Warrior. I'm not saying the man is perfect, but careless and injuring others he did not.

Really? Ask Bobby Heenan about that. He purposely hurt his neck. He tried stiffing Andre, until Boss had enough. Warriors best match was WM6 and Hogan had to lead him through it when he wanted to quit after 10 min
@TheOther644
@TheOther644 11 күн бұрын
@@c.l.freeman7654 Heenan had neck issues long before Warrior, and according to Heenan he asked Warrior not to touch his neck but he did. 2 things with that, Warrior could have touched is neck in the heat of the moment, or Heenan never told him. Cuz according to Warrior, Heenan never ones told him about it before or after. Heenan was a well known 2faced liar. But given how much the 2 hated each other, I'd take anything they say about each other with a grain of salt. Warrior was stiff with everyone, its just how he wrestled and he didn't purposefully hurt anyone. Andre health was bad and when Warrior hit him it hurt more then normal. He did ask Warrior to slow down, but he would get pumped and come in flying like normal. Still, Warrior and Andre had no issues with each other. Even after Andre popped him one/let him run into his fist to let him know to slow down, Warrior had nothing but respectful things to say about him. Not sure how long Warrior's matches have anything to do with what I said? But Warrior had many great matches other then WM6, and Hogan is a liar. The guy that once admitted to being jealous of Warrior actually said 5 to 6mins into a 24+min match. He claimed Warrior wanted to quit 5 or 6mins in, but the moment he says it happened was really 14mins in. But if you want to believe a guy that claims that he wanted to be Hollywood Hulk Hogan right after he lost that match in 1990. Or that he was the last guy to wrestle Andre the Giant before he died. Even tho their match was at WM3 in 1987, and Andre passed in 1993 and was with AJPW the year before. And his last solo match in WWf was actually with Warrior in 1989, and not Hogan. Among the many lies this man continues to tell.

@@30907bng I'm sorry but just cuz Flair wrote it in his book doesn't mean its actually true. I'm not saying accidents don't happen, but after re-watching that match, not once did Warrior drop Flair on his head. According to the vid he said Warrior messed up his equilibrium by beating on him, in his book he says it was cuz Warrior dropped him on his head? All excuses he used for putting on a bad match with Bret years later. They've had 7 matches with Warrior winning 2 (which were after the Phoenix one) and the rest by DQ, and no mention or anything of Warrior hurting him. But Bret calls him out for the bad performance years later, and before Flair's book, and suddenly its Warrior's fault?

Regarding the big gold belt - yes, we can all agree it was a prop - but the whole dramatic or theatrical import of such a prop is to invest it with gravitas. Ric Flair did that with both the WCW title and when he won the WWF one. I actually have more time than most, for Vinnie Russo, but his mishandling of the belt really was a massive denigration of the confectionery festooned around it. He could have done his crash TV thing without devaluing the prime McGuffin. Some have said that he put it on himself to fulfil a childhood dream. But McMahon did this angle quite successfully because it was in the service of a totally self-ironic storyline, and in the furtherance of his “top guy”, as he was constantly thwarted. I think they did the same thing for different reasons. Vince McMahon always wanted to have his grandiose character humiliated; Vince Russo wanted to shit on others. I think I can say this with authority because my name is Vinny. 😅

Flair really was of the old school where the heat between the matches almost mattered more than the stuff IN the matches, whereas Bret was always about what was put in the ring and in front of the fans. As for Mick Foley .. to say that someone who has given so much of his life, LITERALLY almost his LIFE, to a buisness, when the most Flair has done was cut his forhead a little or maybe twist an ankle .... yeah, that's just denial and a clear indication that Flair should have retired 20 years ago when his mind was still at 20%.

But the promos he did with all that yelling and arrogance was always a complete turnoff to me. I couldn’t ever actually like Ric Flair. I see people respect him. I see people really like him. Flair is dead wrong about Bret. Bret Hart is a _wrestler's wrestler_ and could fold up a guy like Ric ten ways from Sunday in a real wrestling bout. Ric Flair is a showman, probably the showman in all of pro sports, but he's not a *WRESLTER.* Bret Hart was offered a spot on Team Canada's Olympic Wrestling team more than once, and there's the high probability he could've competed against Kurt Angle had he accepted, and made it into the finals, but he was too busy being THE GUY in The WWF. Ric hasn't a leg to stand on compared to _actual_ athletes like Kurt Angle, Bret Hart, Dean Simon (Dean Malenko) or Brock Lesnar, and Shelton Benjamin, or even Scott & Richard Reichsteiner, "The Steiner Brothers". Men with actual colligate wrestling backgrounds and actual wrestling ability. It's kinda laughable to hear Ric talking about someone the likes of Bret who had almost a decade worth of experience in the ring before Vince McMahon bought Stampede, knowing full well he'd get embarrassed in an actual athletic contest that wasn't pre-determined in his favor.

If you want to get into it the company didn't turn a profit when flair was the number one guy, it took a bunch of WWE guys to make WCW profitable. And I've never understood flairs appeal in the ring, I think Brett is right there isn't a lot of variation in his matches and he wrestled a lot of stinkers against big men.

@IrishKyokushin It wasn't made clear.. Tully and Arn were going to come back together in 1989 after giving notice to the WWF, but Tully failed a drug test before they left. So Jim Herd didn't bring him back, and Arn was forced to take a pay cut because Herd felt he wasn't as valuable without Tully. Then WCW was going to bring Tully back again in 1993, but there were financial disagreements, and they brought in Roma to take his place.

For me Ric Flair career breaks down into two categories. Before 1998 and after 1998. Before 1998 Ric Flair is definitely one of the greatest of all time. After 1998 Young people see Ric Flair as that old man getting beaten up all the time. Ric Flair definitely is one of the all time great. There are very few professional wrestlers that could wrestle marathon sixty minute matches night after night after night for over twenty years. Flair recited some of the greatest promos. While "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes greatly embodied the good natured and loveable working man. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair embodied the company CEO very sure of themself and full of themself. Always charasmatic, condensing, and someone that everyone wanted to beat the tar out of them one time or another. Ric Flair could definitely play the role of the "Baby Face". Ric Flair was more loved "The Heel" With the exception of watching the match where Ric Flair was placed into Retirement by Shawn Michaels and a few other matches. Really difficult to watch a Ric Flair match after 1998. Another indication was a match that Ric Flair had with Billy Kidman. Ric Flair was showing in that match that "Father Time" had definitely passed him by. Oddly enough Billy Kidman match with Hulk Hogan was a display that "Father Time" was passing "The Hulkster" by. So 1998 that a good many Professional Wrestling Journalist and podcasters and fans will breakdown Ric Flair's Professional career before 1998 and after 1998.

Flair "Foley is a glorified stunt man": Me "yea that's what all wrestlers are, your point?". Flair had the same problems as Hogan, they stayed too long as wrestlers, can't blame em, hard to stop getting that money and wrestlers didn't have pension back then or insurance so them staying too long makes sense. Flair never wanted to let go of the championship, and as a WCW fan, it got old, REAL quick. It was super annoying how they always had him win, especially when there were wrestlers that were more popular, but WCW never could cash in on it cause Flair never helped to put anyone over. It's the biggest reason why WCW never could compete with WWF(WWE) back in the day. Wasn't until Hogan came over with the whole NWO gimmick that really put WCW on the map, and that got mismanaged to all hell. Respect to Flair for what he accomplished, but it's not like he was winning all those matches on his own(as if they were real and not scripted for him to win). He was champion for too long of stretches without ever losing the belt, always with the 4 horseman doing some kind of run in for him to win, and it was just tiring. And it has always been known that he took his gimmick from that one wrestler(he admitted it himself way back yonder), I can't think of that wrestlers name off the top of my head(it was before my time), but it would be super easy to look it up, almost everything is exact, the look, the entrance, etc...

I almost forgot that Paul Roma was part of the four horseman. Nothing against Paul, but he didn't really fit in. I dont recall them pushing Paul Roma to elevate him beforehand, then it might have worked better. Personally, I liked him better in power and glory. Eric bischoff made Ric flair looked like a total chump against hulk Hogan in WCW. It was awful IMHO. By this time, hulk Hogan's usual psyche up, point, block, punch, boot off the ropes, leg drop for the win was very stale. When i was at a WCW event when hulk Hogan was still the hero and flair the villain, hulk got BOOED loudly and flair was cheered.

Bret didn’t lie when he said flair has had the same match same moves every time cus he has since like 76 lol always did the feint spot & before he got too old he’d do that flipping the rope and landing outside on apron to get knocked down off the apron

Flair also had a 20 year head start on Bret…while Bret had to be the guy after the steroid scandals. Flair also didn’t make anyone look good in the 90s/00s/10s.
