Ric should have made millions and millions of dollars back then, but he was in the wrong place, at the wrong time. If NWA-JCP would have produced toys of Ric and the 4 horsemen, they would have made a fortune. Ric made a great living and had a great life, but he should have made a lot more money. There should have been toys and cartoons for the kids back then of Ric and the Horsemen. If we were re-living the 80’s now, Ric would have a reality TV show on cable and Ric would pick one lucky young lady out of thousands each season to travel with him around the world. The show could be called, Space Mountain, and it would be the number 1 show on television. Woooooooo.

A lot of the old school territory guys didn't want to copy anything that the WWF was doing at the time. That's how they missed out on the merchandise money the WWF was making.

Not that they didn't want to, because they tried to jazz up their broadcasts a little bit. They just didn't have the ability to. And this is why I always question this common notion that VKM is this "genius". How much of a genius do you have to be to get the jump on a bunch of old fogey wannabe mafiosos? VKM isn't a genius. He took an idea that worked for someone else and made it work for him. If you ask me, the real genius was the person who decided to take cartoons originally made for adults, and air them on Saturday morning and/or afterschool TV. Because that's all VKM did. He took an "adult product" and made it into a Saturday morning live action cartoon. Then took that and made an actual Saturday morning cartoon. VKM is a superior businessman. A Genius? I need convincing on that. I don't see it.

All of the territories had shirts, posters, etc, but the difference was their wrestling was marketed toward adults. WWF after Vince took over was marketed to children, so they had all kinds of toys and dolls which wouldn't have sold as well in the other territories.

AWA had great merchandise through Remco. Their figures and ring came out 1985 (a year after LJN, I think). Their figures broke easily, but they looked amazing. Over time, I had Buddy Rose, Nord the Barbarian, Ric Flair, Boris Zhukov, Marty Jannetty, the AWA belt, and the steel cage. Great memories. But the LJN stood the test of time lol The AWA figures were obliterated.
