Growing up in st.louis, you watched wrestling at the chase on channel 11, in sunday morning at 11am and I believe Saturday also, but compare to today's wrestling, it was the best, and today's wrestling I can't watch, back in the day, as a kid the weekends were the best, Saturday you had all these good cartoons all morning long ,then ma and pa kettle, then Abbott and Costello, and ABC's wide world of sports, sunday you had church, then Tarzan then wrestling then sunday movies, but the most importantly was weekend's was family time, going shopping, at groceries or department stores, sorry listening to Rick flair, took me down memory lane, of the 70s and 80s,best 2 decades thanks awesome job

I lived in St. Louis and watched Wrestling at the Chase from the late 70s to the early 80s. I got to see Harley Race, the Von Erichs, Brody, Dick the Bruiser, Baron Von Raschke, and of course, the Naitch. Great times.

I remember when Ric Flair wrestled Terry Funk at the Kiel Auditorium in 1999. They were fighting down the aisle and my brother threw a soda at Naitch & it hit him in the head. My brother called him a “fake punk” Flair then threw Terry Funk into the guardrails knocking over my parents, brother & I. Funk landed in my dads lap and flair climbed in top of funk and beat the brakes off him. He looked at my brother and said “who’s fake now kid” This was the greatest time I ever had at a wrestling match. Rest In Peace pops! ❤️😢

@@chrischar9428 yeah just their first ring but whatever dude keep walking. Cause the dome would of sold out with not one rival team fan in it for the Superbowl of all things. Rams and their owner and especially their fans are a joke and glad they are gone. Gtfu dude seriously

The NWA 73 show at the Chase was great and I am glad we are getting it even though on a lower scale. I'm appreciating it while it's here, you never know how long it will last.

My childhood in the late 70’s & early 80’s watching Larry Matysik & Mickey Gariagiola as the ring announcer every Sunday morning. The great Sam Muchnick put some great matches together with Flair, Harley Race, Pat O’Connor, Dick The Bruiser, The Von Erichs, The Funks, Rocky Johnson, King Kong Brody, etc. The Promos were AWESOME which led to a weekend event at the Kiel Auditorium. I miss those days!!!!

Bruiser Brody wrestled under the name King Kong Brody in St. Louis out of respect for Dick the Bruiser who told him there is only one bruiser in this territory.

8:55 i'm glad ric detailed out how you can identify the success of a promotion: minimal angles, conservative booking, simplicity. look at the golden age, the 50s. the embellished angles came later

I would have thought the US title would have been up there right beneath the nwa world title. Maybe it was just a mid Atlantic belt.

Ted had the North American title and lost it to Patterson. After a couple months is when they rebranded it to the inter- Continental title. When Patterson fought Backlund in July of 1979 at MSG. Vince mentioned him being the NA heavyweight champ

I always knew about wrestling since I was a kid cuz my older brother accidentally saw Kayfabe being broken early one day, hours before a match he was helping out and he saw a 'heel' + a 'face' playing cards - I got smartened up but I still WANTED TO BE A MARK AND BELIEVE.

Just one mans opinion but as long as there are movies being produced which suspend disbelief i think we could slowly revert back to kayfabe by introducing Japan type strong style to simulate MMA type action. It wasnt really so much the wrestling as it was the selling (acting) that made it entertaining back in the day. No one would go see bad acting in movies we all know arent real and its the same with wrestling. All thats missing is the selling. Bring better acting and the fans will respond. No different than Hollywood

Gene Kiniski vs Ric Flair for an hour…..would of loved to see that match. Wonder if Ric ever wrestled Don Leo Jonathan. Jonathan vs the Giant or Jonathan vs Kiniski …we’re matches that were classic.

As a 9 year old kid in 1959 I watched St. LOUIS wrestling at the chase with Joe garagiola as tv announcer. BUDDY rogers against John Paul henning, I swear they were busting glass beer picture against each others heads. Any way Flair wrestled King kong brody around 1985 at Kiel and Flair won by pinning brody when Flair used the ropes for leverage. World tile match. Crowd went crazy because Flair cheated. As he left the ring down the isle a woman went up to Flair and slapped in on the back in anger, Flair didn't flinch and kept walking.

In the early 80's, the PWI family of magazines generally recognized Crockett's United States title as the number one regional belt and the Missouri title as the number two. Completely arbitrary of course. After Flair lost the title to Harley, in 1983, he was given the Missouri title during the chase leading up to the first Starcade.

Like Mr Vern Gagne, Mr Munchnik believed in making wrestling real, no gimmicks nor antics. Fans in St Louis were keen and astute so wrestlers had to bring it
