I'm 100% in agreement with you; it's difficult to switch from DaVinci for those reasons you mentioned. Editing in FCPX feels organic and allows you to focus more on creativity. But seeing how these programs are evolving, it seems like we might have to start getting used to a future change if Apple doesn't do anything about it.

the timeline on resolve is frustrating to say the last but the color grading process is off the charts , I edit in Final Cut and color grade in resolve
@LaurenceLee6 ай бұрын
thats what I'm trying to do but it seems sub-optimal sometimes. Whats your process for doing that?
@Tonellacam6 ай бұрын
@@LaurenceLee I know there are a few methods , I used to just export a very BIG 422 pro res export to desktop then start project in resolve and import media where it had titles and transitions with it . What I did was put on a color simple grade in Final Cut Pro with one of the phantom luts because I have to cut up clips with a grade on them and not in log profile , but once I think I’m done I disable the color grade and export back in its raw log profile so I can finish color process in resolve … I will say I do Noise reduction and optical flow things too in resolve .. my issue is once I start color grading in resolve I start coming up with new ideas and then have to use the timeline to resolve to cut up clips and I get very frustrated lol especially since all my clips I use for the project are in Final Cut , me no likely that timeline hahaha… but the new film emulation is tons of fun to play with !! For the first time I’m doing the method of exporting an XML file so we’ll see how that goes , I just started yesterday , and not really sure how that physically works , I’ll have a project on my desktop called the xml file that I imported into resolve but I have to have the ssd connected that the xml file came from Final Cut , and it doesn’t have titles and transitions , some things are missing so I don’t really like going back and forth from Final Cut to resolve back to Final Cut , but I know some people do that , I don’t know , I really wish I could just do one or other editing programs

I completely switched from FCP to DR about 2 months ago and I love Resolve for the color grading, fusion and audio editing, but I miss the ease of editing with the magnetic timeline. If Apple improves the color grading workflow, masks/tracking, I might switch back to it just because I love the magnetic timeline so much..

If you want to mimic the magnetic timeline on final cut on resolve then just do ctrl and shift while moving the clips to swap them around

I had a similar experience with the sifting through the footage when I first started using Davinci, but then I started using the speed editor keyboard in the cut page to go through footage and it changed everything. I'm able to do the selection of clips much faster than FCPX now with Davinci.

I am on a journey from final cut to resolve. I use the magnetic timeline but the cut page in resolve is the same. You put in this big gray bar and edit over it. So your not even using Final Cut to its full speed and switching to resolve for you should be the same. Most of what you are saying with Final Cut is in resolve .id suggest learning keyboard shortcuts and I’d also suggest looking at the black magic speed editor which is truly amazing. I’m on Final Cut since day one of release and only the last 3 weeks learning resolve from ripple training and it’s been very exciting

Also if I find DaVinci so sexy I still have not enough need from what is offering… the grading I still can do it there, but still, for my need fc is home 😊

Great video! Davinci annoys me for exactly the same reasons. Video editing increases over time. In Final Cut you don't even think about it, you're just creative and that's it). You can edit video in Final Cut with your eyes closed. In Davinci, just rearranging clips between each other takes time. For wedding videos, Final Cut is the best of the best!

Great balanced talk on this subject, thank you!. I use FCP for all my short form films and commercials, but for long form documentaries I use RESOLVE. Amazing wedding films, inspirational work.

I just switched to Resolve to avoid paying hundreds for plugins so Final Cut could do what I needed. Editing is more than just editing hahah, all the audio and special effects and such I’ve needed for this long short film I’m doing. The text transcription helped in finding lines as well. I’m on 18.6. I’m now as fast in Resolve as I was in FCP.

Oi Fasoli!

You just read my mind. I am cutting my first video in davinci and thought I am doing something wrong in selecting my clips… and here you tell us that you have the same issue. Even Final Cut is not updating anymore, the selecting feature and workflow is nice and fast. I think about doing the next project in both programs. What is your hack to link Sony video footage when importing the xml of Final Cut to davinci?
@RiccardoFasoli6 ай бұрын
For bringing the xml from fc to DaVinci you should import the project first in toolbox (is a free app)

Ciao Maestro! Opinione personale ovviamente. Ma è uno switch a mio avviso da fare a tutti costi. Sei il top! ti seguo sempre!

great video. I'm in the same boat. I get why everyone is switching from Premier to Davinci, especially if some of those users use Windows, so Final Cut is out of the question anyway. However, to go from Final Cut to Davinci, you don't have as many reasons to switch, especially if you're very happy with everything. Yes, no doubt Davinci has many more features, especially the Colour Grading, and yes I wish Final Cut would be more active with their updates. but I don't edit super complex projects, so in my eyes, it's not really worth trading the ease of use of Final Cut, the simplicity, for the complexity of Davinci Resolve, which has lots of features that I might not use. But same as you, I keep an eye on both, I have already paid for both - but currently I'm sticking with Final Cut.

Cool video. You mentioned a movie which edited with fcp 7. The thing is fcp7 does not have magnetic timeline and all the things that you love about fcpx it is non existent in fcp7. Fcp7 was like premiere or resolve at the editing department. So there were tracks. I started my editing journey with fcpx as well. But buying all those plugins and fixing them with every update or working on a video for ours and at the end not being able to export because of rendering issue caused by 3rd party plug in and diagnosing where the problem is... I love final cut but love must be both ways. It is a dying relationship for me. 🙂

I switched to davinci from fcpx +color finale from 2 month ago. I still can’t decide which program to use. I just found that final cut is so user friendly. You can do effects, masking in a so rational way. However it’s capibilitys are restricted. Davinci’s knowledge is superb, but it is so hard to do simple tricks with it and it missing a lot of effects that final cut has bulit in. Davinci has also a lot of bugs. So it is hard to decide.

Lots of Um, ah and non-native English expressions make it very frustrating to follow this video to the end. I understand Final Cut Pro has some features that are useful to you but they don't exist in Davinci Resolve. Yes, every app has its own advantages and disadvantages. People stick to a specific app because it helps them solve their problems and how much it costs. Thanks for your opinion
