The GTI driver performed better but one thing people forget is that the police in these types of chases are subject to many strict rules such as slowing down before passing a red light and junctions etc. The GTI driver is free to take as much risk as he wants and not give a toss where as the police officer is subject to scrutiny and has to justify his every move in court. That is the difference. Amazing driving skills by both drivers none the less.

Yeah I live near here actually, and Manchester and Oldham is known for these boy racers. These lads are actually skilled because of all the experience they have on road, driving with no insurance, no licences. which is why insurance prices are so high around these areas. In addition to the drug dealing and cars. So GMP drives Unmarked S3's So i can confirm this is an AUDI S3 not GOLF R. But basically the same thing anyway. Iv actually seen this S3 fly by with blues on too a few times.

But if you watch the video from start to finish you can see the driver makes off before they pull him over. the driver already knows its an undercover s3 just by watching their mirrors. If you watch the video again. the police even say that they made off before they even turned their lights on1. most of the boys already know the undercover cars. Trust me this car was deffo the s3 you can tell because the way it steers.

People under estimate how well front wheel drive cars handle. the driver knew his car and that's what made the distance around the corners. most people think the s3 would be more nimble around the corners but that's not true. it's all wheel drive quattro it's heavier than the gti. so the gti has better handling, although it's slower.

I work as test and development driver and have had to do my advanced driving courses like the police do. That police officer was extremely skilled. There’s so much they have to consider and do when your blue lights are on. He’d have easily caught him if he didn’t have to follow certain protocol. You can be the worst driver in a really slow vehicle but if you’re reckless you’ll more than likely get away from the police with ease as there’s certain things the police just cannot sacrifice. You should go out with a traffic team one day Ricci to get an appreciation of how good they are. I’ve spent lots of time on track but when I had to do all of my advanced driving courses, it really opened my eyes at just how good these guys are. They spend years and years intensively training. It as probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done and was lucky to even pass. Driving skill has something to do with it but it’s more about judging your surroundings.

I’d actually say he should have aborted the chase especially when he was going through the more built up areas at speed. Too risky imo. I would say the get away driver was terrible. He showed zero skill. Anyone can smash their throttle to the carpet and steer. And anyone can get away from a copper in any car if they’re stupid enough. There’s certain things the coppers cannot risk. I appreciate from most untrained eyes how this video portrays across but I can almost guarantee that anyone who hasn’t been through the intensive training would be shocked at how much these guys have to consider whilst driving. It’s like these “Certi Drivers” they’re absolutely horrific most of them 😂 These people need to get in the passenger seat of a fast driver on track and see what a car can really do.

​@@pStar58 You don't understand the mental capacity that you have to have to drive like that and factor in the safety of the public at the same time, along with all the other things he would have to have been on top of whilst driving a racing speeds. The guy trying to escape was a very skilled driver obviously but he was also taking incredible risks that a police officer just cannot justify. In this video there was no crash and no one was hurt. But how many of these kinds of videos have you seen where the driver trying to get away does crash? It happens a lot. The police simply cannot take the same risks because then they themselves become the risk to the public. The point is, this isn't a game. The person getting away could have actually been more skilled, or faster, but it's not a race, it's a chase, it's a different type of driving and this officer was incredibly skilled at it. If the roles were reversed, with no formal training, I doubt the criminal would be able to stick with the officer because of course the officer would take whatever risks he would dare.

Some of his manoeuvres were executed beautifully and his braking was on point for a lot of it. Not condoning it lol But I get what you're saying, I agree. It all comes down to who wants to take the most risk. That's essentially what the game of a police chase is. Criminals know this and so will push the stakes higher and higher until the officer is forced to back down. If you had a bomb, you could probably escape at 2mph. Also, this is the same reason why street racing is stupid with people you don't trust. Most people will want to win a street race at all costs and cannot accept backing down in order to be safe so they will push the risk factor further and further until something inevitably happens. The best drivers are the ones who like to have fun but understand this very well and have good control over their egos. I've been racing with similar people for years and not one of us has been involved in any situations because we all mutually agree on this. We like to have fun but the public come first.

Having owned a 280bhp mk6 gti on the straights the mk7 R would not keep up. But on the corners the mk7 R should have the advantage but the gti driver drove the hell out of it lol

@@germalean88g77 golf R is 296bhp 280ft a stage 1 mapped gti (my old one) 280bhp 350ft . gti is also around 40kg lighter than the golf R 16bhp is doing nothing when the gti has much more torque. And if we include the 310ps golf R which probably equates to 307bhp that still only has 295ft. So in a straight line the gti (my old one) will always be quicker

Police Golf R was slowing down quite a lot in the junctions compared to the GTI and still kept up. Badman in Golf R wouldn't care who he hits through the junctions to get away so of course, he would escape.
