Hello again everyone, today we’ll be making some cost-effective liquid soap using two oils you can readily buy from the supermarket. Equal parts Sunflower & Rice Bran oils make’s a beautiful conditioning liquid soap for everyday use. It is naturally very thick, 2:1 dilution it was extremely thick and hard to pour, I recommend a 3:1 ratio as you’ll see why in the dilution phase
These two oils make a lot of liquid soap, very cost effective, the entire batch cost under $13 to make
I hope you enjoy the video, Thanks for watching and let’s get liquid soap making on a budget!

I always recommend to run any recipe through a Lye calculator, even if it’s provided by Dawn Organics. I use LyeCalc to formulate all my recipes. It is my favourite as you can adjust lye purity. It also shows you how much citric acid and extra Lye is needed; www.lyecalc.com/

My tip for not paper printing is, I write the recipe on a white board. Add any info to it as I go (like if I add a bit extra colour or whatever) and take a photo of it at the end before I rub it off the board. I find that really useful to reference while weighing out ingredients for a new test recipe and to keep as a copy in case I decide I like it or want to tweak it.

I have that exact scale! The battery lasts forever. I charged it once and it’s lasted for months and months. I bought it from Amazon. I haven’t used any of the other functions just zero and tare but I love it to bits ❤

It's a great scale. It really does last a good while between charges usually a few months. I use it everyday. Really love it, so glad I decided on it 🙏

I haven't tried making soap using potassium hydroxide and I think I will try your recipe. I'm curious about using oils infused with botanicals to naturally color the liquid soap, have you tried this and will the color be vibrant or just muted? Thanks!

Should definitely give it a try. I am unsure, I've never tried to use infused oils for LS. I wouldn't recommend it as botanicals in LS can spoil very quickly, even if it's an infusion. LS is a lot more prone to oxidisation over bar soap, best to leave LS simply water and paste, with extra added glycerine for skin conditioning 🙏

Yes George you are correct in your comment regarding the access to oils and the price. Ridiculous. So I ask, is this a good all rounder for eg good for clothes washing as well as personal use? Can’t thank you enough for your fantastic support, you are a wonderful human being.

Thanks Sharon 🙏 it would be fine for washing but you'd also want to add coconut oil to help with cleansing 🙏

Interesting process George and that lather was very good. However, I don’t think I’d have the patience or space to be making it for the time required and would need to buy a crockpot having given one expensive one away not that long ago. I just bought a table top stand mixer for body butters etc. Still to try it out. Gosh there are some cheaper models available these days. So no more equipment this year and I will stick with cold process bars. Thanks George

This is fascinating to watch you create your liquid soap George, though it looks like you need to set aside a. whole day to make it. The cooking process reminds me of making hot process soap before it gets hard and I found that quite a scary experience. I was not thrilled with my end result or the experience. The bars turned out looking like crumbly cheese but they did lather up well. Your liquid soap on the other hand looks perfect and so cheap to make. I felt quite exhausted as you worked to get it to the right consistency and your sense of humour shone through. Don't think I will be trying it any time soon; I know mine would be a disaster. Well done another descriptive video. 🐾🦋

Thanks for watching Marion, There is a lot of idle time, can definitely go off and do your own thing in between checks. Elly uploaded a very interesting video the other day, she adds the Glycerin at the beginning and it actually speeds the whole process up. I thought that it only speeded up trace, but actually it speeds up the whole thing, her olive oil paste was ready in 30 minutes. So I'm very keen to give that a try next batch! It was a little bit of an effort for sure, next time I'll know just to add 3:1 save myself the hassle. All in good fun no doubt. I think you will be fine though, you got some skills, and also agreed, it is basically a hot process soap, I was also a little unsure when I first started LS but as with anything you get used to it. Having said that, I do prefer bar soap though 🙏🙏🙏

@@DawnOrganics Yes I also watched Elly's with the glycerine and she made it look so easy. She seems to really like liquid soap also. I will have a go at some stage, like I should have another crack at hot process bars without having a nervous breakdown over how it will turn out!! Like you George, I am very partial to bars of soap. 😊

Is this a paste you can make up, store in an airtight bucket and make up when needed as liquid soap or needs to be made up as soon as it's made? Thankyou so very much for sharing this recipe and showing us your method of making. Such an interesting and informative video.

Yes store the paste in air tight container in the fridge and dilute it as required. Will last much longer. Liquid soap doesn't require a preservative. Make sure everything is clean and sanitized 👍

Can I ask please, what is the benefit of adding sodium lactate to liquid soap? I thought it helped harden the solid soap but unsure of the benefit in liquid soap🙏
@DawnOrganics
@DawnOrganics Жыл бұрын
Sodium lactate in liquid soap, like bar soap, is a conditioning and lather booster, it also allows the soap paste to be diluted much quicker and easier. it's a great additive in both LS and CP bar soap 🙏

Looked at the recipe and decided there are way too many unnecessary chemicals in this. I make olive oil castile without any of the extras. Used before any degradation occurs...

Every ingredient has its purpose I wouldn't say they're unnecessary but definitely optional (they're all natural inputs). Olive oil has become expensive and in some countries hard to source so the point of the video was to show you can make a cheap and cost effective liquid soap
Liquid Castile Soap with Rice Bran Oil (an olive oil alternative recipe).
