Rice Krispies Treats - This is the original recipe for Rice Krispies Squares developed in 1939 and published in newspapers in 1940. It appeared in newspapers before it was printed on the Rice Krispies box. The vintage recipe is different than the one we see on the side of the box today!

😮but how much cereal and how much marshmallows?! We always made them with margarine, when i make them with butter it doesnt taste as good. What are the differences in the recipes?

Hi roring! Great question. So, first, margarine became popular here in the US during WW2 because there was a shortage of butter. The first Rice Krispies treats were developed right at the start of the war. 1939 I myself, grew up on margarine too. The first time I had real butter was also the first time I had lobster, maybe 1985. I thought it tasted like something rancid. 😄 i love it now though. I use both in my cooking. Of course, use margarine if that is what your taste likes, but it does have more water in it so take that into consideration. @@TheVintageCook I went thru the same thing, raised on margarine, but now I can't stand it! It's like eating yellow wax...and I love butter...but it seems like the rice krispie treats tasted better with margarine 🤔

@@roringusanda2837 funny huh? I’m mostly using a cross between the two. The Land O lakes butter spread with the red lid. That stuff is so good! But I haven’t tried to make these with it. :)
