First I head to Bánh Căn Cô Chín where I get to try some traditional rice pancakes filled with quail egg. On its own it does not come off as a great snack but once you dip it in the side serving soup it really transforms to something else a sweet and sours delight! They also bring you a really nice and crispy bread grilled right on the floor.

After the pancake I tried a dish that the locals really love consuming and it is called Bánh mì Xíu mại 79. I really love this stuff, great to consume in the morning. Really crusty freshly baked bread with salty and slightly spicy meatball soup.

I got a special invitation from my friend to watch them grill the meat to
Nem nướng Bà Nghĩa and it is really good stuff. It is worth dying for, especially when you get to make your own spring rolls, it is making me hungry right now writing this! Location:

Then I went to a place called Bánh Cuốn Nóng Nam Kỳ where I got to try my own rice pancake which actually was super delicous, the pork pieces was salty and tender but the pork sausage was underwhelming.

Lastly I finished up at a street food stall which is stumbled upon on a late afternoon. It serves mainly a dish called Hủ tiếu gà. Their glass noodle soup with shredded chicken is absolutely amazing, aslo getting that chopped chicken was fairly decent (the duck is better) and the rice soup is just not my cup of tea right now but it might grow on me however…

Rice culinary in Vietnam can be sweet, savory, spicy, sour, and also fermented :))

Northern Vietnam tends more towards savory, whereas the South tends towards sweet. Food from the South is what is mostly eaten by foreigners outside Vietnam so it tends to be sweet.

Banh Cuon - you need to combine everything together to get full flavour. Best way to pour dipping sauce all in the bowl and ask for more.. then combine all pieces as you go

You're missing out if you've not seen Sonny from the "Best Ever Food Review Show". He got popular when he moved to Saigon and started making Vietnamese food videos there. He's now at 4 million and probably makes more money than Food Ranger or Mark Wiens per the Social Blade side. He's branched out to other countries, but his best videos were the ones he made in Vietnam. Go watch his playlist on "Northern Vietnam" and the "Mekong Delta". Also, go watch Max McFarlin's Vietnamese videos (I think he's planning on moving to Vietnam soon). If you're just interested in watching crazy, but interesting, watch "Vietnam Meets Dustin". He is something else and I think his channel will be blowing up soon.

You need to wet the rice paper in a warm water bowl to soften it before you roll it. Definitely it is a correct way.
