Rice Street fixture Mike 'Bones' Hartzell passes at 71

Bones was my friend, I moved back to Montana & found out from a friend that he passed away after I moved. Bones had lots of friends on Rice street & will be missed by all that knew him. Mike "Bones" Hartzell rest in peace my friend. They claimed schizophrenia but I'm guessing it was more like PTSD.

My girlfriend (now wife) worked at the Rice Street and Front Super America and he was always in the area. He'd sweep the parking lot and we'd give him coffee in winter and a cup if ice/soda in the summer. I have him a Army field jacket, boots and sleeping bag for Christmas in 2004. He was a very nice guy who'd talk to anyone who'd listen. I'll never forget him

Good report on a good person: Mike Hartzell. Homeless people are people, too and they matter. It is hell being homeless. May he now be at rest. Good on the people of Rice Street who showed him respect out there. HOMELESSNESS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. PEOPLE NEED AFFORDABLE HOUSING.
