Norway has nothing to do with communism in any way, shape or form. We fought and defended Finland in the Winter War against communism, and would surely do so again if it came at our door steps.

We did not. There were Norwegians fighting there, just as there were Britons, Danes and any other that went there. But there were no big mobilization to defend Finland in the Winter War.

In hindsight the way I should have worded it was: There were alot of Norwegian volunteers who went to Finland to fight Russian Communism expanse and defend Finland on behalf of Finland.

@@bobmalibaliyahmarley1551 Yeah, Swedish sent most help though. Even though they were officially neutral. They sent 1/3 of their fighters to help air defence in North Finland and 12 000 Swedish volunteers came to fight as infantry, 8000 in front line. With them fought also approximately 700 Norwegian volunteers. They were responsible to hold one part of front in Salla area, which was at that time relatively stable and calm area. Freeing 5 Finnish, already battle hardened, battallions to strengthen other more crucial parts of front. And Sweden sent also rifles, machine guns, artillery ans ammunition in significant numbers. All help was more than welcome at that time. What many don't know or remember that Soviet Union attacked Swedish Luleå and Pajala during winter war, luckily only minor damage. Swedish sent also money, food and other suplies worth over 500 million Swedish crowns, which was more than Finlands budget for one year at that time. I'm Finnish myself, I just thought to give some idea of situation back then.

Well, you should see the whole video, it explains a lot! Yes, the higher paid jobs doesn't pay as much in Norway, but because of everybody earning enough we can have "free" school, healthcare and a support program for those loosing their jobs. That means that because everybody earns enough to pay taxes, everybody gets to use this system. I'm about to be done on a bachelor's degree on a University, but instead of paying for school i've gotten a super cheap loan, with no rents as long as i'm studying, and i get about 50% of that loan deleted as soon as i pass all my exams. (which everyone can get). That means that i can apply for the "higher paid jobs" earning more than my friend who's a mechanic, but because he didn't take higher education he get's more years of higher income than me. So it's pretty much equal, unless i get an over the average career, but we've both got jobs that we love (hopefully, after i graduate).

Equal increase or decrease by percentage does not equal to equal salary for workers in all fields. If you earn 600 per hour as a lawyer but 300 as a carpenter, an increase of 3% would apply to both, it does not mean that lawyers, carpenters, bus drivers and so on all earn the same salary.

And Harald Eia IS a bit tedious. An academic turned comedian and TV entertainer. The English subtitles does convey the essence of what he is saying, but none of the humour. I tried watching it without sound, just reading the subtitles, and it seemed very dry - I'm not surprised that Ashty got sleepy!

In Scandinavia where Im from and most of Europe , there is actually a workers marked if you could say that, if the employers doesnt provide the services,wages etc that everybody else do for their workers, they will change jobs.. The US is a brutal society in comparison, which the employers can cut the lifesupport AND the medical security in a heartbeat for their workers if they complain over work condition. I dont say that everything is perfect but compared to to The US we are in heaven.

Appreciate the reaction, but please realize that this is NOT trickle down economics, lol. This is trickle up economics! Trickle down economics is a system where money is distributed to the top earners (often through tax cuts) in the belief that it will somehow trickle down to the bottom earners. This never happens because an employer have zero reason to hire more people or raise wages just because their revenue is increased. Corporations are not welfare institutions! The rational reasoning to hire more people is when the demand for products and services warrants it, while wages increase with labor competition and production efficiency. This can only be manipulated by increasing the overall purchasing power, which trickle up economics specifically addresses.

And the negotiations isn't about everyone getting the *same* wages, but the increase and decrease needs to be similar.

The salary is not the whole story. You must add free health services (in principle without limits) and free education up to PhD. So for low salary jobs in US, this will not be possible.

Just want to put this here.. Norway is not a communist country. We're a social democratic country. And equal pay is not the same a communism. It's just a fair system that makes sure that employers can't "abuse" their employees by paying them less, just because they feel like it. They can however pay you more if they feel like it, but not less. We're just not a capitalist society, that's all 😁

@@joecole5643 The idea of the internet was made in usa however the World Wide Web is partly created by Scandinavians including a few norwegians. Cell phones are not created in USA they are created in Korea China and a few other asian countries. They have not been produced in USA for a very very long time. Computers are the same they are not made in USA. Apple from 2017-2020 knew about them using actual slave labour at labour camps in China and did nothing because it would be too expensive. And they have used child labour in the past. I can go on. "That's why i am opposed to NATO. It forces the USA to pay for the defense of Europe" In return USA would get defended if invaded it is also able to create the Nuclear shield because of NATO. You know the thing that makes USA even able to defend from Nuclear missiles from Russia or China. Small things like that. US troops are trained by Nato soldiers and equipment is sold to USA based on Nato things like Missiles ammunition recoilless rifles, artillery and more. You might not like to pay money to nato but that is because you do not know how it works. Also, Europe has never needed to be defended under nato so that is also a thing. You also do know that the defence spending in USA is so large because you follow the 1600 British model of defence.

I would argue this is taking the best of both worlds. This is capitalism with respect for the individuals. Taking what is best from socialism, the equality, and combinding it with the free market economy. And no, this is not communism at all. The means of production is still 100% owned by the companies.

People does not have the same pay in Norway. I earn 3 times more than my brother. Within my group of friends (about 20), the low income ones make about 450.000. My friends with highest pay about 2.000.000,-

The main point was not mentioned. It is a minimum wage and a minimum increase that are negotiated. Some factories give 3.2% - others 8% - depending on the private factories themselves. Some pay 220 NOK / hour others 250 NOK / hour. Many factories also pay more to those who have worked the longest, to those who produce the most or to those who have greater responsibility or perhaps good ideas for greater production. There are no restrictions up - just down

@@igortytarenko9136 Cars are very expensive yes we have 100% tax on a new car(except EVs they are very cheap with almost 0 taxes). Where i work part time (im mainly a student) i make 30$ an hour for a manual labour low skill job. In general we have low unimployment and a very robust system for taking care of people if they were to loose their jobs.

@@igortytarenko9136 Fortunately -Norway is a very rich country so they have created a light system of financial compensation under Covid 19. If the State has ordered you to close - as hairdressers - you have received money to cover all costs. The state is also paid salaries to everyone who is laid off -100% and 60% after a while. Companies that have had to reduce their operations will have all% costs covered until October. You will receive money in your company account only 2-3 days after application - but a check will follow. Demand money you should not have - report to the police and demand a refund

I think you missed something here...maybe you should have watched the whole thing. Norway is a capitalist economy, but it is balanced captialism sort of married to socialism. A very important point is that when you make all the cheaper goods, you need a market that can buy them. You loose your market if big parts of the population is struggling, because they can't buy the enormous mountains of goods that are being made. In worst case that would lead to worse and worse products hitting the market because it is what people can afford. The norwegian system have created some norms in society that says, nobody should ever have it worse than this level. So the system keeps the people on the lowest level on a decent level. So that they can take a trip to the USA once in a while. We think all people should be able to afford that. This create a very strong sense of community in a country, and the freedom for everybody to live in a society where you rarely see any naked poverty. Trust level are high because of virtually no desperation. These choises are about what world you want to live in. If you would like some deeper insights into this you should watch the whole series that Harald Eia made...you may after that want to join a union.

I posted a comment elsewhere here with more details and I suppose I shouldn't repeat myself.

@@tessjuel I don't know exactly what you hold Marx responsible for, but I would recommend not to listen to the twisting of his words that are so popular on the right. Marx mainly contributed now very widely used analysis of capitalism, and his theory proves useful and justified over and over again. Marx did not say very much about how an alternative society should work, and most attempts raising the communist flag never got any further than the initial stages, stages that was not postulated by Marx. The significant element is autoritarianism, which Marx would never have supported. Apart from anything from Marx, "socialism" is a quite diverse field of ideology, and this often splits the left into fractions. In my opinion a practical way forward should go through the restructuring of legal corporate entities in capitalism and transform companies into democratic entities. This move alone would be much closer to the economic ideas of Marx than any of the dictatorships that never gave the power back to the people before they crumbled, and sank down into a capitalism worse than ever.

I wasn't talking about whether capitalism or socialism or communism was right or wrong, they all have some good, some bad and some outdated points. It's the confusion he caused. Because of the communists reckless use of the word socialism, it now means very different things in different parts of the world. More important, they were in charge when all the major changes that made Norway what it is today happened. As for communism, I don't know of any real communist countries. The different professions do not earn the same. But they possibly increase the salary equally. They increase in percentage. 3% of NOK 300,000, or 3% of NOK 500,000. Is it communism... no. There is cooperation between the employer and the workers' union.

Sorry in advance for the way too damn long comment. It's mostly just an elaboration of the OP. Wealth doesn't "trickle down" automatically as you said, that's a crucial point. It's not JUST capitalism, it's adjusted capitalism. Pure capitalism has, in my view, been successfully discredited by Marx. Adjusted capitalism, however, proved Marx completely wrong. Collective bargaining between employees and employers normalizes incomes between extreme low and extreme high earners (and also significantly alleviates class antagonism which stabilizes capitalism). That means the working class is financially secure enough to enjoy the liberty of vacationing to America for a month, and thus overall happiness of the population is increased. The rich aren't as rich as they could've been, but they're already rich, so limiting their wealth accumulation isn't going to make them outright unhappy. Money does not equal happiness, but you do need some amount of money to be happy. It's all a bit dry like a lecture, so I really do understand that you turned off. There are a couple interesting points though that you missed at the end: "Norway beats America in capitalism (GDP increase rate)", "service culture is inefficient and thereby relies on - and perpetuates - poverty (more or less)", and "high labor wages are beneficial to the economy". It all comes down to collective bargaining, i.e. unions. A solid welfare state is nice and all, but UNIONS are at the center of the success of the nordic model. That is what the American economy needs. And I really wish you guys could get it done, because America is influential, both culturally and politically. America's demand for liberty, and its sense thereof, has been, and is still, a force of good in the world. Just... you could do without the kind of jobs for which you don't want to pay a living wage.

First step in communism is the nationalization of all enterprise. Enterprise in the Nordic is NOT nationalized and our corporate tax is significantly less than the average corporate tax in the US... which I guess push the US closer towards communism than the Nordic countries... Clearly the US is not communistic system. The difference is that the business association and the labor unions in the Nordic have a tradition of agreeing on an overall balance resulting in humane conditions for the worker and internationally competitive conditions for our enterprises. The reason this works is that we understand that domestic power battels between the business association and the labor unions will result in one thing only and this is a loss of the Nordics competitiveness on the tangible trade balance against the rest of the world. In other words we work as a team which in turn secures stable and predictive conditions for both the enterprises and their employees. Another in part result of this corporation is in the case of that Denmark that our financial interest on mortgage bonds have been close to 0.25% and even 0 since the financial crisis in 2008. The stable and predictive Nordic model results in a very low default rate and for the most part the lender will not have problems paying the installments on the mortgage even in the event of long term unemployment or sickness. Stable and predictive conditions makes all the difference in the long term financial world ... this is basic knowledge even if it is not that sexy and that is why it will never work in the US where everything be childish wild, emotional and illogic.
