@@angelainamarie9656 It's called a "progressive tax." It was used in the 50-80's as a means of effectively capping how much profit rich assholes could squeeze out the top. Basically, everything over a certain amount (ex $10 million/yr) would get taxed 90%. So you could make $10M at a 30% tax rate, or $7M. But if you tried to make $11M you'd only take home $10M * 70% + $1M * 10% = $7.1M. This FORCED companies to decide between getting taxed to death paying their executives more (giving money for public projects) or putting that excess back in employees' salaries, employee benefits, company maintanence, or company growth. All of which benefitted SOCIETY because it ACTUALLY created jobs or improved the wealth of those doing the labor supporting them. And the rich still stayed fucking rich. Just not filthy, fucking rich. America used to have that and, low and behold, it was the greatest time period for middle income growth and development across the country. Who would have known that not forcing everyone to become serfs BENEFITED society and the economy? Other than literally every single economic report ever...

I think the collapse would be pretty swift, or at least most would collapse, and a few would get lucky and be able to sustain for a good while. It would be very fragile however, and depending on the structure (a lone billionaire or group with de facto slaves, or a small community of folk ruled by a council of billionaires etc), unrest or ulterior motives would be inevitable.

There was a Alfred Hitchcock present episode where this happened and all the uber rich locked themselves away in a bunker while us common folks banged on the door begging to be let in. In the end the harmful rays went right through the surface and people as if a breeze. The bunker however acted like a microwave and retained it cooking all of the ones inside. The world was now without hedge fund money. (arguably the happiest ending in that entire show's run!)

Interestingly I saw a women's NDE-Erika Mckenzies narrative/Seeing thru God's eyeglasses,in which she saw the earth covered in flames.During this vision she saw the souls of believers in GOD go to a 4th dimensional Earth while those nonbelievers or people attached to their wealth & power did not move into that post apocalyptic dimension. Interesting if only because we can see the richer the person is, the less inclination to believe in a higher power. People who have a difficult & painful existence seem to be drawn toward GOD more than a person not so karmically blessed. That to me reflects wisdom & true inner peace.

Any smart person would in their place. No control over the people with guns in your bunker is how you lose your "life privileges". The single most important survival resource you can have in a crisis is the people on your contact list on your phone. Your chances for survival in most circumstances skyrocket ten or a hundred fold if you're part of a group, or even whole community, who will work together to help each other. yeah and let's face it, that's not long term survival no matter how you cut it. that's not even their children surviving. You would need to build an underground town at the very least for it to be viable in the short run complete with underground forest a la Rapture from Bioshock (underwater forest). Everything from oxygen to food, fuel and parts would have to be produced in your refuge involving thousands of people to cover all the possible needs. The level of construction work to do that dwarfs the Fallout series bunkers by a large margin and would make any Billionaire broke long before completion. So a bunker as we know them would be useless.

I don't understand why Musk's suggestion is constantly framed as trying to appease Russia. He basically said, look guys, the Russia-Ukraine conflict is running a risk of nuclear war. And even if nuclear war is not triggered, Russia is going to escalate and there will just be more death and destruction across Ukraine. Ukraine just had a massive victory, let's negotiate a peace deal from a position of strength (since y'know peace should be the goal as people seem to forget). Russia won't budge on Crimea, and Crimea overwhelmingly wanted to be a part of Russia anyways, so give Russia Crimea, and give them water access. The recently illegally annexed regions of Ukraine, Russia is claiming is part of Russia and it's what the residents want. However there are disputes about the validity of the votes in those regions, so have the residents vote under UN supervision whether they want to be part of Russia or Ukraine, and go with the results. Finally Russia is concerned about NATO expansion, so just say Ukraine can't join NATO for the next 20 years. These seem like pretty reasonable requests to me if they would avert further death and destruction in Ukraine, and you know, nuclear Armageddon. This isn't even mentioning the global consequences of a Russia-Ukraine war, like fertilizer and therefore food shortages, economic consequences, etc. But anyways, I'm not saying Musk doesn't deserve any criticism, but my god the amount of hate he gets is crazy to me considering the net positive he brings. People are trying to portray him as pro-Russia... he's literally one of the major reasons Ukraine has been able to defend itself as well as it has. Without him and Starlink they'd have no communications on the ground (this is a huge capability). And SpaceX has been largely paying out of pocket to support Starlink in Ukraine. They ask for some government money to cover expenses, which is relatively small compared to what all the other companies get (something like $440M vs Lockheed's $60B), and they get flamed and labeled greedy. What other private company spends 25% of it's annual REVENUE (not profit) on a foreign war? It's all so absolutely ridiculous. People have lost their minds. People wonder why the new generation is so riddled with depression. Just listen to how ungrateful, entitled, and spiteful people sound. We're told climate change is the number one threat. Nuclear war would be the end of civilization. Make peace not war. Then we have some guy who succeeded, and got rich off of converting the transportation AND energy industries to renewable, green energy, and is now trying to encourage peace while helping to defend a country from a tyrant. And what happens? He's demonized for it all. Oh, I guess he made some good changes, but it took him longer than he said to make massive industry wide change, so he's a liar. What he wants peace? Russian shill. So what if he's following the law, most of his wealth is tied up in Tesla, and he's paid the most taxes in American history? He's still rich and it's never enough. Like holy cow, I don't know how the guy doesn't say F it, and just go live on a private island. It's all insane to me. Who honestly cares if he says stupid garbage now and then? Who cares if he's rich? The amount of net good he's brought to the world is so much. If he's not someone my generation can look up to, then who do we look up to? Like why even try? Of course, most of them, if not all, receive some financial compensation, of one sort of the other, so, utilities could be paid. There was also a grant provided for limited time in some cases. There was also an abandoned strip mall, converted to efficiency apartments for homeless folks. Again, the apartments were free, and these were for “jumping off” places. A place to live for a limited time, 2 years if I remember correctly, so folks could get jobs, stay clean and healthy, get access to mental health care and medication, and have a chance to get on their feet. There are ways, and the obscenely wealthy could do it.

Imaging the fantasy that as billionaires their status will continue the rest of their lives no matter what. No matter that there are no crops, no matter that there is storm surge that has washed out the road, no matter that there are no replacement batteries being shipped to keep your solar and wind powered bunker powered. The fantasy that they will live for ever, the thinking of a child, is so embarrassing but it also shows that despite their technological advances they are barely emotionally or ethically developed adults. They do not deserve their billions OR our adulations.

Some of them are buying up luxury bunkers with a totally self-contained food supplies, theaters, pools, whatever. I laughed hysterically when I heard this. First problem: If they manage to survive the backbiting & oneupsmanship, trophy wife swapping of their fellow bunker dwellers for five? ten? years... won't they get bored watching the same old movies? No gala affairs? No super yachts? BORRRRRRR ing. Will they have servants? Who will cook gourmet meals for them? Who will grow the food? No more sous vide duck foam confit! Just Meals Ready to Eat? Oh, no! Second problem: When they actually DO run out of suppliies... & this is the best part ... who do they think will be waiting outside the ultra secure doors when they stick their heads out? No, really. Killing myself laughing. After the revolution, mofos... you wait!

Humans have always been good at destroying stuff. Just because a bunker could withstand a near-hit by a nuke, doesn´t mean that a gang of determined people with tools could not breach it over a few weeks. There is no "secure"... Just ask a safe designer!
