We who grew up with Pantera have grieved so much everyday. To see the Hip hop community be blown away by the lads is filling us all with so much joy. I sat here as a Pantera tragic & watched your emotions during this. Dimebag still does it to me today not 30 yrs later. Keep them coming mate. A hit in the face by Dimebag each day makes it so much better. haha

There is literally no one on the face of the earth who minds if you wanna play a Dime solo again. Play it back 50 times if you want. Rest in peace, Darrell. I knew when you said you dig guitar you were about to have your mind blown. He was an incredible guitarist and a jovial guy, a bright light in the world taken from us too soon. Vinnie harbored feelings against Phil until his death, which is another tragedy coming from Dimes murder. Phil and Rex are still here making awesome music and keeping Pantera alive. Check em out.

Actually it was just a few months BEFORE the soviet union fell. The guards and soldiers that you can sometimes see in the videos from this concert had to control the people to not dance too much but they gave in in the end and even danced themselves.

Pantera was founded in 1981 and had 4 members and played glam metal similar to kiss up until the late 80s when Phil anselmo became the new vocalist and they took a heavier approach to their music and released cowboys from hell which had this song on it. They released vulgar display of power two years later and then far beyond driven which is their most successful album commercially which was again another 2 years after their previous. In 1996 they released the great southern trend kill which blatantly showed the pain that Phil anselmo was facing. This would eventually lead to the breakup of the band between Phil’s drug abuse and bandmate miscommunication. Their final album reinventing the steel was released in 2000 and soon after 9/11 the band split up. Dimebag Darrell the guitarist and the drummer vinnie paul made a new band damageplan while anselmo and the bassist Rex brown went to form bands like down and superjoint ritual. Sadly dimebag was shot and killed in the Alrosa club in Colombus Ohio in 2004. Dimebag legacy inspired so many musicians including me. I basically idolize this man. The passion that he put into this music along with the whole band is why they are my all time favorite. Rest easy dime🤘🤘

Since my father passed (20yrs ago in march) I’ve become emotionally unstable. I was incapable of grieving after he died in front of me and still am. As the years passed became even more numb. Then one day I noticed random things would cause an explosion of emotion. An ad on tv where a boy and his father hug or whatever and suddenly my eyes tear up and my chest is In a vice. Anyway, Pantera is and has been my favorite form of release for anger, frustration and even joy. When you said you had goosebumps my eyes filled with tears of joy, appreciation, love and some other shiz. I know…I’m nuts. Rock on brothers! RIP Dime and Vinnie.

Love your reaction, Doc! I was in the mosh pit at a Pantera show in Newport News in 1992 on Phil's 26th birthday, people were throwing birthday joints at him all night and he smoked most of them on stage. Totally life-changing experience, like seeing Hendrix for Generation X. Dimebag had his goatee dyed red at the time and he just melted our faces off...AWESOME. My favorite part was after you said you never headbang, then 10min in your are headbanging, YEAH!

The Queen concert you're talking about was Live Aid back in 1985 to support Ethiopia during their famine. This is the Moscow Music Peace Festival after the Berlin Wall was dropped. Multiple big name bands that it was their first time playing in Moscow ever. !.6 million people and the concert was free. This happened right before the release of their 2nd break out album Vulgar Display of Power.

My friend your initiation is complete!! Dimebag is the guitar player extraordinaire who was murdered, he didn’t pass. His brother is Vinnie Paul on the drums. He was behind Dime when he was murdered along with 4 others at the alrosa villa, Columbus. That video is from Russia. It was over 1 million people celebrating their freedom from the Soviet Union (watch the concert video from ‘91-‘’92). This is the first band the Russians got to hear live!! They almost stopped the concert, before Metallica, AC/DC, Black Crowes even came on, that’s how great Pantera was. They changed the face of metal music in the early ‘90’s with the release of Cowboys from Hell. Dime was a master of the guitar and a dude that treated you as if he knew you his whole life and would gladly have a shot with you. RIP Dime, you are not forgotten. By the way, try cemetery gates. His guitar in that will definitely fuck you up!! Peace man, keep doing good work

Dimebags solo in the dictionary that’s what they call a facemelter. I’m sure somebody already mentioned this but the reason the crowd is so big, this was one of the very first music festivals to be put on in Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union “monsters of rock”, so what you are seeing is 500,000+ people who are not only very happy to be at a metal show but also happy to no longer be communist. You can feel the electricity of that crowd almost 30 years later....how cool.

I grew up in north Texas and they played a tiny club in Denison TX every weekend in the late 80s. I would hangout in the parking lot because i was too young to get in but i would drink and listen!!! Great times!

That was a historic concert in Russia when the Cold War ended and communism was stopped giving their citizens a new direction as a country. This was the first time any Russians were able to see and hear American bands like this. The crowd was estimated to be 1.6 million people at an airfield, and rumors of numerous deaths, rapes, and other assaults occurred during the concert. AC/DC, Metallica, Motley Crue, and Pantera played the show and there are documentaries about this show available. 1991 Moscow!!

PANTERA are The Beatles of heavy metal music. Simply the best ever in the genre. They changed the game and continue to inspire metal musicians to this day. There have been many debates about why PANTERA was/is not included in "The Big Four": Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. I believe PANTERA is in a class of their own, better than all those bands. Not to say those other bands haven't massively contributed to metal and absolutely helped pave the way and raise the bar. I guess a good analogy would be if you look at say...the greatest basketball players of all time, there's Michael Jordan then everyone else. In metal music there's PANTERA then there's everyone else. There was a time when MetallicA and PANTERA were talking about touring together. Of course MetallicA wanted to be the headliner, being the more commercially successful band. Then it was realized that they would have to follow PANTERA, how could any metal band follow that? So the tour never happened, despite the fact that both bands wre pretty tight as friends. It's amazing that people are still discovering them and appreciating their greatness, it's what will forever keep Dime, Vinnie, and PANTERA'S legacy alive. R.i.p Abbott brothers and thank you for the incredible catalog of music you left us with.

there are/were *very* few who could, or ever will, compare to Dimebag on guitar. one of them was one of his own heroes, Eddie Van Halen... and Van Halen had so much respect for Dime that he buried arguably his most famous guitar (that he had been playing since like 1979) with Dime at his funeral. When a legend lets you take a piece of their legend with you for eternity... i mean damn, that’s some love right there 😢💜

I know that music touches the soul. When you touch people's souls, you can connect on a different level. Music can bring people together. That's what you're doing. You're bringing bringing people together through your channel. Channels like yours are very important.

Theres a documentary of this show and Pantera was the first band, they got the crowd so pumped they almost shut it down after they finished, you actually hear the promoters and road managers debating if they keep going with the show cause the crowd was so insane after them LMAO

There were 4 members. Phil Anselmo, Rex Brown, Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell. Darrell and Vinnie were brothers. Dime was shot on stage in 2004 and Vinnie passed in 2018. Phil and Rex were also both in Down. Phil is now touring with his band The Illegals... You should really check out Down. Phil split time between Pantera and Down. I recommend "Bury Me In Smoke"

If my memory serves me right Pantera was the opening act at this festival . It was the first festival after the Cold war ended in Russia. I know the Cold war ended a few years before this festival but it was the first one Russia allowed since it ended. Also Metallica was on the bill at this festival too.
