Purchased my 392 in Germany (US Auto Sales). Loved the Autobahn. Finding parking was sometimes difficult, but they have a lot of parking garages. I was surprised how many people would stare, roll down their window to hear it, or come up to me and ask about it. I had a grandpa (in the back seat of an SUV) stick his head out the window and yell at me in German. We were in a stahl (traffic jam) on the Autobahn. I said I don't speak German well, and he replied in English "hit the gas", so I revved it for him. Big smile on his face. I received quite a few looks and smiles. A couple behind me at a stop light kept pointing to the back of the car, leaning forward to see something. I thought they were trying to see my license plate, then realized they were trying to see what kind of car it was. Badges are blacked out, so they are hard to read on black paint.

Speaking as a Canadian, these cars are considered "full size" cars, and are made for North American roads, where even the surface streets are wide enough to fit three of these abreast. Considering that they trace their lineage back to a Mercedes E-class, they're not THAT big. full disclosure: I'm a licensed mechanic at a dealership that sells and services these, and I drive a GMC Yukon XL (Chevrolet Suburban) so I'm both familiar with the size of these, and primarily drive something even bigger. Dodge did exactly to the Charger what Camaro should have done. I've owned two Dodge Chargers. First was the V6 version. A completely practical family sedan. 8 speed transmission with still plenty of power and 32 mpg highway. Then traded it in for it's bigger brother, the R/T with the 5 speed slap shift and 375 horsepower. I LOVED it. Black with black leather seats and pearl additive to the paint gave it a fantastic stage presence. A very large car with an equally large blind spot behind the "C" post. But hey, you're only looking forward in a car like that. Watching Richard Hammond of all people get all giddy over a popular and cheap (relatively speaking) American muscle car is quite fantastic. Not only does he make the car look bigger, but so do the roads and other cars on the road in the UK. Somebody should take Richard and put him in a lifted Chevy Silverado 3500 LT 4x4 quad cab long bed dually that way we can have a proper conversation about ridiculously large vehicles.

These V8s also have the ability to reduce the number of active cylinders from 8 to 4 to save fuel so cruising on the highway can stretch a tank pretty far.

They drink a lot when you get on it, but do pretty okay if you stay out of it. Better than most peoples' trucks for sure. But gouge on the power a bit and the 25mpg can turn to 8 real quick.

@@JETZcorp I know a guy with a 5.7 charger and he struggles to get 25 mpg, there's no way this thing is doing that.
@JETZcorp2 жыл бұрын
@@spicysnowman8886 I've seen 5.7s get almost to 30. Most people really don't know how to drive for mileage and most don't care to. I bet I could stretch a Hellcat to 25, but it might involve some techniques that normal people don't do, like drafting and extended coasting. But if I had one I wouldn't ever drive it like that; I'd drive a Hellcat like a Hellcat and leave the hypermiling to the G1 Insight.

I live in the UAE 🇦🇪 and these are everywhere and used by lots of people/expats as commuter cars - SRT, Hellcat, Demon, R/T, even the plain old Penastar V6 SXT.... somehow they don't look all that big and very similar size to a 5 series BMW or CL Merc... fun cars and well built like most of the Dodge line up these days. Can't quite imagine the fuel cost for one in the UK though! ..gas conversion anyone? 🤣

The Hellcat Charger is definitely not the BEST “saloon” car in terms of quality, comfort, whatever. However, if you’re looking for a somewhat RELIABLE 700hp to daily drive and still not have spent an astronomical amount of money on a fancy European car with similar hp, I would say the Hellcat is definitely the way to go.

My thought with these cars is that they're meant more for eating up US interstates and highways than crammed European streets. The only exception would be the Autobahn.

@@christophb2736 set the suspension and steering to sport or track and you have more than enough precision.
@JETZcorp2 жыл бұрын
@@christophb2736 They're really not that bad at all. They're VERY aerodynamically stable, and the suspension is more sophisticated than you think. Double wishbone front and 5-link rear, and they still have hydraulic steering which tells you early if something is going wrong. They don't have "precision" in the delicate Lotus/Porsche sense, but they do have precision in the firm, stable way that a big RWD Benz or BMW does. They're famous for making you think you're doing 70 when you're actually doing 130. They're about as perfect of an Autobahn car as there is without AWD.

Hellcat in Sport or Track mode is a whole different animal...he was driving in "regular" mode (not in track/sport) the car is going to feel more sluggish and less gas-pedal responsive like he was complaining about.
