As much as Hammond might like and respect his other favorites, I have never seen an individual fall in love so quickly and completely as when he met Oliver. It is a deep and abiding love you can feel in him even today.

I recall reading Top Gear Magazine and recall an article written by a certain "ape" that when his beloved Mercedes black broke down, Richard offered him a lift home and the review was quite favourable. To me, Oliver will always be the greatest of Hammond's cars.

I like that Hammond is the only one that keep working on DriveTribe. I remember when this channel launched and they marketed it as a way to watch more from the trio. Clarkson gave up almost straight away, May shows up when his Gin needs a publicity boost, but despite Hammond having his own projects he keeps working on this channel.

@@soulcornflake1 Martini Racing dude! Oliver was called so because it was olive green, but also I think because it probably reminded Richard (as it definitely does me) of that iconic poster of Oliver holding out his bowl saying "Please Sir can I have some more", it was just that kind of car.

@@GothamClive Yes, we have plenty of cars TV/movie cars to pick from. Realistic ones too, not the fantasy of KITT. Morse, The Saints, The Professionals, The Sweeney, Life On Mars, The Italian Job, The Prisoner, Mr Bean, plus many others and that doesn't even include all of James Bond's cars.

Car people will always love old cars with character. Extreme speed and handling is a sometime thing, but the joy of the noises and smells and the visceral interactions with old cars can put a smile on your face like nothing else (and ruin your day if you rely on them a little too much).

It's got to be Oliver. Oliver made Hammond because prior to the Botswana Special, Hammond was just a presenter in a show where Dawes was already replaced. The connection between Oliver and Richard, Hammond and the other two, and us, the audience, took Top Gear from a motoring show to a show about three blokes who were into cars. I hate to say it because it was the chemistry of Clarkson, Hammond, and May that made the show, but the moment Hammond said "I shall call you Oliver", and immediately thought of what the other two would think and say about that, brought us all into that time and place. I have never named a car or a bike, even though I have loved my cars and bikes, and whenever i had to part with them, it was like putting down or giving a much loved pet, but my buddies have, and I soundly ridiculed them for it. We all are in either camp, so we all felt that spontaneous connection to both Richard, Jezza, and James.

Nicely said however that is Richard's persona. If it wasn't Oliver it would be something else. Viewing the final episode of The Grand Tour, all three loved the Botswana special that they went back to the very same place as it was their first special which took the show and the trip to a whole new level and Richard's persona added that feature in. Mind you I like your response.

Hammond wrote in his book As You Do about how men in general don't name cars, because sooner or later you have to dispose of them. His wife and daughters would name cars. And that's what made Oliver so special, because Richard named him.

I've named my first car and because it was similar did the same with the next Jenna and Amber were pretty, easy going and low maintenance but always up for whatever. Spontaneous night trip to France? Everything started with Oliver related with keeping the cars from the show as far as i know and at first i couldn't understand the love Richard has for that car until i virtually own and drive one of them on Forza Horizon 4 xD Immediately got second one to keep it original while converting the first one into a proper rally monster. I have all the rare exotics from Koenigsegg, Bugatti, Pagani, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche etc. in the game but i always end up taking Oliver for a spin and do some missions / races with him. Oliver is the best. Period.
