Watch Richard Hammond's new discovery+ show here: bit.ly/HammondWorkshop-SV5-YT
After working tirelessly to get an Escort RS2000 pristine and ready, Richard Hammond ventured to the Concours D'Elegance at Hampton Court Palace to see if the Ford was up to scratch. While he was there, he also took a walk around the event to see the cars he'd be competing against, including a stunning Pagani Zonda.
Thanks to discovery+ for sponsoring this video!

The Pagani Zonda still wows me today when I see it on screen despite it coming out in about 1999. I'd much rather have that over modern supercars like a LaFerrari or McLaren 720. Crazy to think that the original had less than 400 bhp.

Commander Philip Heseltine is mentioned in Peter Swinger's book 'Motor Racing Circuits in England' On Snetterton circuit it mentions that Commander Heseltine was a stalwart of the club, and one evening in the early 1960's he arrived with his wife Biddy at the clubhouse to find that Jim Russell had just completed a 24-hour reliability trial in a Vauxhall. During the evening Commander Heseltine asked Jim Russell if he would like a cup to commemorate the feat. The offer was accepted and a tradition developed whereby the record established by Jim Russell's Vauxhall was challenged in later years. There was only one basic rule to challenge for the Commander's Cup which was that the vehicle used had to be an unmodified production saloon; the rule was later changed to allow any production car to make the challenge.

The reason behind the change from 901 to 911 is more complex. Peugeot did not object to BMW using 501, 502 or Ferrari using 308... But the Peugeot family held a grudge against the Piech family since WWII, when Anton Piech was put in charge of their factories by the Nazis...

I like my MkII RS2000s, excellent car, but yours looks like its sitting too high at the back? What suspension have you put on it?

Thats intersting about the 901 - 911 story. Im into vintage RX mazdas and the Europeans had a 818 where the rest of the world got a 808. Peugeot did the same thing to Mazda.
