I had the honour and pleasure of meeting Mr. Hatch some years back at a local sci-fi expo. He was very much like Captain Apollo-kind,intelligent,and interested in others. He autographed all my BSG stuff and I had my picture taken with him. He made me feel like a good friend, and though I didn't know him like many others,I'm sad that he's gone. RIP,Richard.SO SAY WE ALL!

I have to post the tribute to my dear friend. But anyone that knew him for even a little while would say that, too. There was no one that wasn't Richard's friend from the moment he walked in the room... and if you didn't think you were he would have eventually made you warm up to him with a joke or two or listening ear... his ability to listen deeply being one of the finest in the business. Richard's ability to truly listen to you ... really listen ...was what made him a consummate actor... passionate teacher and adorable friend. Would he mind me posting here? No, not at all especially if it was in the name of Truth which he was constantly seeking or making even one person smile. We would talk about this kind of stuff occasionally... he was a chief researcher... although his focus for his work was intense and sometimes all-consuming. But that's what made him great. His passion for his BG projects spilled over into so many arenas: He was an incredible acting coach -generous with his wisdom and encouragement to new actors. He and my son had plans in development for a sci-fi video game. We feel his absence often and gratitude forever for his place in our lives. When I first came to the City of Angels chasing dreams, I fell quickly into Richard's baseball team in Beverly Glen. Interesting people would pop in and out of the team and of the game including his son whom he adored. It was Richard's team spirit and coaching that kept it going. It was an impossible dream I got to be part of those bright saturday afternoons in Beverly Glen. He lived more as a citizen of the universe than just a native Californian. There was always a part of him in the spirit... one foot in this world and one foot in the other...that's where we connected very much as well. I will miss his remarkable blue eyes, his gigantic soul so full of unending hope... and his very generous hugs.

I first remember Richard Hatch from "Deadman's Curve" about singers Jan and Dean. I was in high school, and been a fan ever since. He was and still is my favorite actor♥ I still watch Battlestar Galactica just to see him. I really felt bad when I heard he passed away. The last time I felt bad like that was....Elvis. Not only was Richard gorgeous, he seemed like a real sweetheart. You are missed. RIP sweetie♥

I had it the other way around: I knew him from BG and suddenly realised he played Jan in the film Dead man's curve, which I loved as well! He was more then a crush for me. More like a mentor or supporter in hard times. And an inspiration: never give up.

I saw Deadman's Curve 8 times, still a big Battlestar Galactica fan(have the only season on dvd in a box shaped like a Cylon's head) and Jan and Dean was my first concert. They were at Oakdale Theater in Wallingford CT in June of 1981.

Same here. I thought he was great in "Deadman's Curve," playing Jan Berry from the beginning and the height of their fame, through his car crash, rehabilitation, and comeback. I saw Jan and Dean in concert about 1988/89 and I thought Richard really portrayed Jan well. RIP Richard and Jan.

Beautifully done!!! Had a big crush on him, since 1978 when I was 16, and it grew into a genuine respect for this wonderful human being over the years. I've got a few of his novels, never had the chance to meet him. Wish I could have but...We all could use someone like Captain Apollo in our lives, an honourable character brought to life by Richard. May you rest in peace, my Captain. So say we all.

I met Mr. Hatch at DragonCon. My habit was to go around the "Walk of Fame", where the celebrities did signings & some would take photos with you at their tables. I'd talk to people I knew, and he quickly became one of those! We were also on the same flight after the convention, one year, and I told him the following year that I had (quietly!) hummed the Battlestar Galactica theme as we were taking off, lol! He also gave the best hugs!

He was my first crush. My dad told me that when "The Streets of San Francisco" came on, I would run around the house yelling "Steets! Steets!" Then came Captain Apollo. He was stunningly handsome and talented. My friend Bill went to one of those sci-fi conventions back east one year when he was there. Bill asked the captain to sign a photograph for me. "To Emily. Love, Richard Hatch. Captain Apollo." It hangs in a prominent place in my home. So many lovely memories.
