Although RT is brilliant both acoustic as well as electric, I'll choose electric all day long. He goes from subtle to tornado in a flash and it is brilliant.. And his voice just brings the emotion..

@ peter ottes = 100% agree with you. Do you happen to know which guitar he's playing on this track?

Indeed! Bewitching version of Donovan's classic gem :)

Hardly. I never understand these "underrated" comments. 😂

A brilliant version of this song. I heard it on the box playing out a particularly trippy episode of Britannia, recognised Richard's voice and had to seek it out.

Thompson style is like no other guitarist , absolutely unique. He plays with such an intensity and emotional fierceness, but also a powerful, disciplined mastery thar few artists can rival. .He can move from gently teasing , to forcefully commanding , to almost brutally wringing the haunting notes and riffs from the fretboard . He leaps from measured, and deliberate to blistering and blazing in a heart beat, then back without missing one. He is like an artist or sculptor who is equally skilled using light , subtle brush strokes or delicate pressures as he is broad, heavy strokes or herd , deep pummeling to shape his creation,

Thompson's guitar style is so distinctive, complex and unique, and this takes me back to Fairport Convention days. He makes Donovan's song his own. Such a true artist. I would love to know who are the other musicians on this.

@Gabriella Klein -me too - knowing what year it was performed would help though. I want to know what guitar he's playing.

This is even better than the studio version. True talent can sing in the fkn street a la Piaf and make it happen. Richard probably doesn't even need a mike.

Not underrated by me. I've been following him since I saw the original Fairport Convention - '67 I think

Heard it on a radio show tonight and the DJ said it was from a 2003 CD comp of songs from "Crossing Jordan" (NBC series). He thought it was out of print.

Meh. More bass line would have made it spectacular. After all. That’s what drives the song. Terry Reid, Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper, etc knew that.
