Volunteering on a massive scale proved what is possible to achieve. Ukrainian volunteers play at integral role in resisting agains the Russian aggression and saving lives.
----------
Richard Woodruff is a British Cossack volunteering in Ukraine since June 2022. He is involved in Front Line Kit, both in the areas of humanitarian and military aid. Richard was awarded for his contribution to AFU by General Valerii Zaluzhnyi. And I have also had the privilege to meet him, at the Silicon Curtain event in Lviv in August of this year.

Jonathan, watching your wonderful conversations with such intelligent and empathetic Westerners as Richard has been one of the things that has kept me sane when some in the West sound like agents of the russian propaganda machine. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incisive mind and your kind soul!

VolunteeringUkraine is an excellent site, lots of projects and opportunities for volunteers. I see this as one of your best proactive episodes, am most grateful to you and anyone else in your circle which prove your dedication to Ukraine. Wonder to see Richard in the native shirt, seems very relaxed, but hats off to him. I believe after all this a medal will be in order, the distinguished cross of journalism. I know, but don't forget you still embody the spirit of Paxman--like it or not.

Super informative interview. I was viscerally touched by the on the ground experiences - his stories made me feel like I was there... the contrast against media reported "reality" verses "the truth" of actual reality with how the rubber hits the pavement - from border guards demanding kickback for humanitarian aid & ammo, to the International Red Cross budgeting only 2% to Ukraine of the $2 billion dollar year-on-year donation increase that is directly attributable to International public empathy for Ukraine's struggle (while doing virtually nothing for AFU front lines). Yet it was not at all a bitch session about petty Ukrainian corruption... It was a tale of how dedicated committed International volunteers on-the-ground weren't standing for corruption and were successfully combating it - growing and improving Ukrainian society - by using their direct experiences and their access to highest level Ukrainian authorities - to effect real positive change. A tremendously moving episode.! Thank you. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦

Such a powerful, first hand account of the reality in Ukraine and who and what the russians really are. And I agree with Richard, in answer to those who would ask Ukraine to trade justice for peace: "russia just needs to fuck off and then we can get back to normal." Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦🇬🇧💙💛

With the fake Chinese tourniquet's that fall apart, I once bought a Rubik cube off Aliexpress and, I do not exaggerate, the first time I tried to use it, it fell apart in my hands!!!! Like the entire cube segments all fell apart, and it wasn't because they were loose which can make a cube come apart, the plastic was so thin, the locking pegs in the centre literally just disintegrated!!!

Ugg. I'm in the east of Ukraine. Blame USAID for these projects (roads, roofs, etc...USAID has thrown multiple funding streams to Ukrainian Govt and the have to spend the USAID $ on those line items, like roads etc. It's stupid. Yes, many upper level Ukrainian official's are skimming money. Pisses me off.

I suggest you interview Liviv Frontier Kitchen. You’ll hear another aspect of “volunteers”. I have difficulty to understand why his utterly disrespectful acts regarding the finances of his former group as well as how he left it escaped your research.
