Fantastic video + still images Richard. It was interesting to see the A. Kestrel bobbing its tail up and down while perched, I’ve never seen that before. The light you had was what I prefer for photography, somewhat dull and subdued (I like the way colours present themselves).

Awesome footage. Kestrels are abundant here in southern Ontario, though quite hard to spot if you're not actively looking for them. I usually spot them on roadside fences or wires, looking over a field. It's interesting that the one you captured here was banded, and I wonder how long it's been banded for. I know of certain spots that do the same banding with some owl species like the Northern Saw-Whet, so I guess they must do the same for other birds of prey like Kestrels.
@RichardBirchett9 ай бұрын
Thanks very much indeed for watching and for the info on the Kestrels, their habits are very much like our Kestrel back in the UK. Yes, it was a shock to see it banded or as we say in the UK ringed, I'm in the process of finding out all the info on the kestrel, will post my finding on my community page. It makes them slightly less photogenic but great for surveying of the species. Cheers Rich 👍

Thanks very much for watching Nick. To be honest it's just my fixed tripod foot attached to by chest strap from the bag, with a camera strap round my neck for added security. I aim on getting one from Cotton Carrier at some point soon, check them out as they look great. All the best Rich 👍

Hey Richard 👋🏻 I'm a beginner photographer I am thinking of buying the canon r7 with rf 100-500. Is it a good combo for bird photography and wildlife photography??? For the long term....?
@RichardBirchett9 ай бұрын
Yes, absolutely it's a great combo and one I use quite a lot of the time. The reach with the crop sensor is such a great addition for birds. Certainly better than the RF 800 f/11 which would be limiting. Cheers R👍

Hi Graham, I always reply to every comment. We installed the kingfisher bank too late in the season last year so we missed out for 2023, but very hopeful this year they will be occupied. Shortly after building the one in the video we build another. So we have two so they can choose, we’ve had visits so all being well, it will happen this year. Cheers Richard

American kestrels are one of the most difficult raptors to get close to for a decent shot. All falcons are very difficult to get close to as a wildlife photographer.
