One more to go. I can't believe I'm only going to do all this one last time. I don't know what I'll do with all that free time when this is over. get some sleep, probably. I'm tentatively setting the deadline to be done the finale on Halloween. And also, because I'm not busy enough... ​@@Aden_III I don't know ... it's true that you can stop the Orks by killing their obvious leader ... but it's also true that for Orks, the process of acknowledging a new leader can happen very quickly. There was a battle in which the general of an army took the boss' arm and head in a single blow. The nearest ork lieutenant seized command of the ork army by grabbing his former boss' arm in mid-air and beating the enemy general to death with it.

Fun fact, the "guardsmen" that andre was leading weren't actually soldiers. When fighting got really desperate, dock workers divided in to groups, were given weapons and had a single trooper lead the said group. Andre was one of the said guardsman leading what was esentially civilians armed with las rifles. And they just saved ASTARTES. It's one of those book moments that makes humanity shine

There is a reason the best of the Astartes are the ones that are humbled by ordinary humans/"mortals". They know that those men and women fight without the advantage of power armor, and 23+ advanced post-human augmentive organs. They hold the utmost respect for them and know that their purpose is to serve and protect those people, not lord over them. This scene also reveals the truth of the humble lasgun. For all thst people mock it as a flashlight, as a wise Astartes once said: a man who mocks the lasgun has never had to cross a field covered by a thousand of them.

@@jeremybk54 You live up to your name. You are very correct. I found out what some of them are, and honestly kind of wish I hadn't. Morality and (in)humanity aside, flamer-type weapons are actually the best thing to use when dealing with Orks (at least until recently, when the Ork biology was apparently retconned, but I don't know about the extent of that retcon so I won't refer to it). Back when this novel was written, Orks reproduced by expelling spores, like mushrooms or other fungi. This spore expulsion was amplified when they were dead and decomposing. Those spores would, given right conditions, seed into pods which would grow a new generation of Orks (there actually were a tribe of Orks that survived the Second War of Armageddon in the equatorial jungles and joined Thrakka's Third War when it arrived). So if you incinerate the body, no spores will survive to make more Orks, or at least fewer spores will survive, which means an easier time taking care of the subsequent outbreaks years down the line.

And right after, Grimaldus shits on the Salamander leader and puts his honor into question like an absolute douché. So, yeah, everything remains the same, Black Templars are still arrogant pricks. Some maybe a little less than others.

@@beyshan3659 it shows that Grimaldus, for all his badassery, is still as flawed as any man. He thinks and prioritizes the destruction of the enemy and keeps his eye on that, seeing the Astartes as the sword of Humanity, meant to cleave and destroy its foes. The Salamanders in contrast, see themselves as a sheild. For what does humanity gain to destroy its enemies at the cost of itself? There was no guarantee that the warboss in question was actually "the" warboss of the attack and quite a bit of evidence to suggest he was nothing more than a Nob/subcommander of some kind (mostly because he wasn't half again the size of a size if a terminator and dual weilding a pair of tank cannons, as such commanders tend to be). In this situation, Grimaldus was probably in the wrong, and for all the good things he did in Armageddon (especially saving the celestial lions and ordering Justinius to get Oberon up and running as fast as possible) this is a spot where he made a bad call and his pride prevented him from seeing any other viewpoints. Indeed, that was one of the major takeaways Imperial command took away from the third war for Armageddon: the Astartes are not what they once were. Over 14,000 were deployed to the war. Had it been a great crusades era legion of Fists, Ultramarines, Blood Angels, or the like, that number alone would have *shattered* Gazghull's armies like Bane broke Batman's back. But the smaller Chapters, with their lack of coordination, different methods of fighting, and at times, literally working at cross purposes to one another, meant that even with the support of literally *billions* of Imperial Guard and PDF forces, were unable to achieve victory without some truly staggering losses.

I love this scene where Grimaldous basically almost comes to blows because the salamanders were concerned with saving human lives. It emphasizes once again the differences between the philosophies of these chapters.

It's a perfect demonstration in the difference between how the Black Templars and the Salamanders wage war. The Black Templar were concerned with minimizing the damage the WAAAGH did by taking out an ork chieftain, where as the Salamanders were concern with stopping civilian casualties period, instead letting a very important target of opportunity slip through their fingers at the cost of not only two of their own, but, if I remember right, a number of Templars as well. Damn straight Grimaldus wasn't going to do them any favors, "Get out of my city!" is right. I don't begrudge the Sons of Vulkan for the care they give Humanity, in fact I find it refreshing from the elitist view other Chapters have of themselves and their low opinion of humanity as a whole. I do, as a rule, hate when opportunities are wasted and ignored because of tactical inflexibility.

Phillip I hear you on that but look at it this way. Tactics come from Strategy and Strategy has it roots in your personal philosophy. What is important to you....The Salamanders value human life above all. So naturally their tactics would support that. Besides - They did tell Grimaldus what they were there for when they arrived and they to their credit remained disciplined to that fact. Defend the civilians at the docks. Not there to hunt and kills warbosses or take orders from anyone. From their view what they did was sound. Templars value honor and personal glory seizing an opportunity to take out a leader is sound as well. - Opportunity to end the conflict and obtain glory. Bottom line the tactics of both were sound. The Salamaders that arrived didn't have to fight and die with the Templars. They could have gone on to do their own thing as was their right. Tactically they did the "wrong" thing as their own Chapter was without their help for a week. Have many of their own brothers died without that extra support in that time. Strategically what they did was on the money. Assist the Templars, protect the civilians. Give Templars freedom from guard duty to take fight to the Orcs, don't take too many casualties or bogged down in urban fighting. Return to Chapter when task is completed to real fight at the assigned zone, build some goodwill. Grimaldus may have lost a bigger war."Get out of my City" while understandable from his perspective and situation was a little childish and not the first time - Pouting cause he couldn't go to space with the rest of the chapter to fight and was assigned to a city. Walking out and not acknowledging his Chapter Master in front of a strategic war council after given orders. "I do not care" was funny the first time, but the reality is that you are not the only place with people fighting and dying. Could see why the general was losing patience. He could have created HUNDREDS of Years of good will and cooperation over multiple planets, warzones, cities, and star systems with the Salamaders (WARRIORS from a LOYALIST Chapter) with a simple 2 min prayer. Looked from that point of view a major STRATEGIC opportunity was wasted because of his own inflexibility. (imagine: a young Salamander battle-bother sees his unit deployed to help and the reward they get is "Get out of my city" from a Chaplin no less. Then said Battle-bother becomes Sergeant, Captain, Chapter Master, shares stories and experiences to others ...another war Templars in need of help. With a photographic memory what will be remember? Great story and no easy answers to this one - Why do people fight?. Appreciate your post Phillip

The Templars had a chance at ending the assault altogether, by killing the Ork Warlord. Because the Salamanders left the Templars, the assault continued, and two Salamanders/some Templars died. The issue is, it could have all be prevented, if the Salamanders backed up their allies. The Salamanders sit back and defend civilians, while other Chapters SAVE civilians, by killing the monsters who would do them harm, before they get the chance.

That is true, but most actually revere them. The Imperial Fists and the Space Wolves honour them quite often, considering the chapter masters of both chapters at the moment. Vorn Hagen of the Fists, who is a known warrior who value human lives, both marine and normal, and Logan Grimnar of the Wolves, who literally came to blows with the Inquisition during the first war for armaggedon, as they wanted to either kill or "sterillise" all guardsmen and civillians involved in the conflict, which didn't bode well with the wolves.

Salamanders are always underappreciated and denied credit for their actions, because they make other chapters feel disconnected from humanity. It's like Lamenters luck, they never can get full credit. Then again, they don't care. They're there to do what they must, to defend those who can't help themselves. All they want is that when Vulkan returns, he'll look at their deeds and say "Well done." Which he will, because he's nice like that.

heres my trick i don't watch these videos unless i feel I've earned it. Like when the ep 1-10 all together in one video came out. I refused to let myself watch it. I only let myself watch it after setting goals. Like... painting an entire armies worth of "x" or going back and putting Iron Hand shoulder pads on every model and then you end up ripping the whole arm off and you scratch your head and just say Fuggit and order some cybernetic arms and just put the new shoulder pads on them. Sergeant V’reth of the Salamanders had been looking over the trench’s parapet for barely 3 seconds before having to drop back at the Ork’s heavy return fire. Around him, guardsmen of the 62nd Armageddon Steel Legion were affixing bayonets and performing last checks on their weapons. Let the Steel Legion have their glory. -They cannot win this one on their own, Reclusiarch, they need our support! Grimaldus said nothing. Over the parapet, V’reth could hear the cries of wounded Legionnaires and the loud bellows of the Orks. It angered him deeply. - Why brother? Why are you doing this? He asked, his rage barely contained. - I am teaching you a lesson. -Which is? -You cannot save everyone. These Guardsmen have a duty to fight and needs be die for the Throne. By then, the attack had been repelled and the 62nd Steel Legion was falling back in utter disorder. Some were already reaching the main trench, bloodied and battered, some glared at the Salamanders, wondering why they hadn't supported their attack as they had promised. V’reth looked at the wounded in horror. -And this is your lesson, Grimaldus? I see only your own hubris and lack of humanity! He took a step towards the Reclusiarch even as the Black Templars surrounding him pointed their bolters at V’reth. -You would shoot me, brothers? Grimaldus took a step towards him. -You will fight like Astartes, not chaperones. His patience finally exhausted, V’reth threw himself at the Reclusiarch landing a strike on his helmet, strong enough to make him take a step back. Grimaldus struck back, making V’reth stumble down to one knee. Rising up, V’reth spat on the ground, rage burning behind his red eyes. - I thought you better than this, Reclusiarch Grimaldus. I thought, finally, that the Black Templars were beginning to have some respect for the unaugmented fighting with us. A shame. He picked up his Power Axe that had fallen during the struggle. -Salamanders, with me, we are leaving this city. We shall rejoin our chapter brothers on the shores of the Hemlock River, where we belong. V’reth spared a glance at the Steel Legionnaires who seemed appalled at them leaving. -Forgive us, Steel Legionnaires, but we cannot endure this… dishonor any longer. I will pray that you shall be victorious. He turned one last time towards Grimaldus. -Master Tu-Shan will hear of this, Black Templar. He will be most displeased. Gimaldus said nothing although V’reth knew he had riled him by not using his title. As the last Salamanders left, Grimaldus looked around at the Guardsmen. Some were openly glaring at him and his brothers although they quickly looked away. Only one of them managed to keep eye contact with him for a few seconds. He chuckled to himself. -Maybe they’re not as weak as I once thought.

It seems disappointing at the surface level that Grimaldus acted the way he did to the Salamanders, but this makes the character Grimaldus even more relatable to me. Grimaldus sometimes makes mistakes because of his anger, which I am also guilty of. Rather than the character being a 'Mary Sue', the character is made more realistic and has flaws that he should strive to overcome.

God this is so sick. The way the animation was hand drawn at first, becoming more and more vivid and felt-out as it progresses, adding a unique, independent, original touch, but also allowing us to truly see the change and growth of both the plot and the animation. And the writing is top notch, provides such a solid cinematic base for the 40k universe, so that even to someone who doesnt know virtually anything about 40k can see this and really understand the darkness, the terrible dread of humanity facing such insurmountable quantities of hellish enemies, but also how the imperium has unquantifiable amounts of manpower and weapons, and also how these men's lives completely revolve around battle as it is all they have ever known and all they were made to do. Absolute cinematic brilliance.

Please, please don't take this wrong, I love your work its amazing, but I feel some how the rawness of the black and white imagery of your earlier work was more real to me that left more spaces for my imagination to fill in the blanks. The 3d modeling and weird lip sync with the dark back ground lose that essence of your previous work, sometimes less is more, but what do I know? I'm just glad I got to see some amazing fan work from a very creative guy, lots of respect.

I saw someone in a previous episode state that the reason why colours were introduced and the imagery made clearer was to show that Grimaldus' mind began to clear as the battle began and ensued. Not 100% sure that's the actual reason, but it's an interesting view.

It was always 3D modeled, since the first episode, it's just that the filter was so heavy you probably didn't notice. It also played well with the story at that time. Lessening of the filter and more detail and color corresponded with the story progressing forward.

That was AWESOME! The scene with the drop-pod , exiting with flames , total wicked! Will remember that one for a long time coming. What I really liked was that this demonstrated something that , I think, people forget about the 40K universe. As mush as the Imperium is at odds with the universe, it is at odds amounts themselves. The discord between the factions. The differences of philosophy between the SM Chapters were the are almost alien to each to the point of barely be able to work together. If the Imperium didn't have enemies to fight it would tear itself apart. Sad to hear there will be only one more of these. It's been a great series to follow. Hope the Sister of Battle make an appearance. Thanks again for doing this.

Love you man! I’ve been watching this since the very first video, It’s been a real treat seeing how Grim has been developed through out the fight at helsreach, since the arrival, all the way to the saddening death of Kador, in which the apothecary took it rather hard. It’s real nice to see that inside the armor they still have shreds of humanity left that isn’t lost on them as some of the other chapters of the Astartes. I believe I speak for all my brothers when I say we are sad to see the series end, but as always you rock man and FOR THE EMPEROR!!
