The unidentified minnow at 13:45 - I believe they're a fish called Silversides. I live on the Tennessee River - same waters where Richard Gene fishes often and I've been catching those same minnows recently when cast netting. They have a brilliant silver stripe running the length of their bodies.

I use to fish the Little Miami River west of Cincinatti. My favorite time was when white bass were running upstream in the spring/early summer. Nonstop action and good sized ones too. They would wear me out. I'm from Tn. But love fishing the Ohio/Indiana rivers and creeks.

Using live bait long that is probably a lot better than losing a bunch of plastic baits in the water and cheaper. Can't beat that natural presentation really. You're an expert angler, enjoy the videos.
@ut000bs6 жыл бұрын
We used to fish the stripe run on the Holstein River just above the fork with the French Broad that creates our beloved Tennessee River. We called white bass 'stripes' which shouldn't be confused with stripers which were striped bass. We had loads of fun every spring up there in our spot catching them on double-baited lines often two at a time. We used minnows some but small to mid size white plastic grubs seemed to work best. They would always hit a white plastic grub. That's some great memories. We caught ours under a bridge, too. We'd literally catch way over a hundred each and at the last we'd start culling out the 2-3 nice ones we'd take home each to fry up if we wanted fish.

@Jamie Ford We used to catch them when they were running up the French Broad River up beyond the forks of the river. We used small, white hair jigs to great success. Ten of us went one afternoon and caught our limit. We fed the whole block that night. No joke. Fillets cut into strips and deep-fried. So good.
@ut000bs5 жыл бұрын
@Jamie Ford The stripes would usually start up the river in April right when the crappie were spawning. We would hit the stripes on Saturday from the bank and hit the crappie on Watts Bar from a boat on Sunday. I used to know some good places for crappie on Watts Bar that you could count on at some depth all summer long. That was good times.

Whitebass are fun fun to catch. Good eating to. This is what i fish for about 85% of the time. And crappie about 15%. We troll for them using Tony Accetta #12 pet spoons and we use a three way swivel using a white tail and yellow tail and catch two at a time. You get two two pounders on at the same time you got yourself a fight. We use a 10/10 Jet Diver to take it down to about 8 ft.

The other evening I went out in about forty feet of water and saw on the fishfinder what I thought was a big school of white bass. I dropped down a live shad and BOOM! They weren't white bass, they were big hybrids. Let me tell ya, that was a ton of fun. Ended up with three nice hybrids then I saw the white bass boiling and I filled my cooler with them.
@prevost86866 жыл бұрын
fishin freak Fish & Game used to stock hybrids in our reservoirs. Said they was going to replace them with strippers. Stripers have not thrived at all due to shallow water and warm temperatures.
@fishinfreak43746 жыл бұрын
Wayne Swicegood that sucks.
@prevost86866 жыл бұрын
fishin freak Not many of us understand why they stocked stripers in a reservoir that at its deepest is only around 40ft. With hot & dry weather it’ll drop 10 feet or more because so much water is pulled for big city useage. 20 years ago you’d see 10-12 lb hybrids pretty regularly. My best was about 7lb. It wasn’t uncommon to run into huge schools of them busting shad on the surface in the morning and evenings but them days are gone now.
@fishinfreak43746 жыл бұрын
Wayne Swicegood wow, I wonder why fish and game decided they needed to stop that.
