Richard I watch many fishing channels. The sport has become very elite and requires milion dollar plus life styles to compeat, buy boats and tackle etc. Its is so refreshing to watch you and others like The Old Fisherman do it the old fashion way with alot less $$$. Keep up the good work.

Im kinda trying to base my channel around that concept. Wears me out seeing folks getting so intense with their gear and over the top approach. But as Richard Green would say. Its a matter of opinion :)

Can't say that I have ever caught any sauger or walleye on the Tennessee River but I have fished the Ohio River below the dam in Louisville since I was a boy around 12-13 years old. Sauger are my favorite eating fish. My wife use to love them as well. Looks like you had a great day on the water, thanks for sharing.

Mr. Richard Gene, every time I watch your videos, I’m transported back to my childhood, fishing with my uncles and granddad. The only difference was their Minnesota accent 🙂. Never change, sir. I love your kind and helpful spirit.

I get transported too and just switch his accent with my aunt's soft Missouri accent and it's like listening to her. She was born in Germany but came here when she was just 5 years old so lost all of the German influence and picked up the Missouri.

Good day made even better with a new video by none other than The Machine himself. "Go fishing when you can! Cuz it's gooood fer ya!" It's 100% true. When I caught the virus, I couldn't go to practice or work so, I just went fishing while I dealt with it. Thankfully, I didn't have life threatening symptoms but, being out in the fresh air and sunlight whilst catching fish kept my spirits up which I firmly believe is what helped me bounce back in a few days without major complications.

Looks like fun. Those Zebco Cardinal 4 reels sure bring back a lot of great memories. My grandfather and uncle both used them in the 60s - 70s. Fine reels made by Abu/Sweden sold by Zebco, smooth and tough. The second I saw those reels I could smell my grandfather's pipe tobacco. Thanks for that. He passed many years ago. I grew up in Tulsa, OK where Zebco made their famous "33" and others, so it was popular brand name in the area. It was originally called the Zero Hour Bomb Company. They made time bombs used in the oil drilling business before fishing reels. My aunt worked at the Tulsa Zebco plant for years assembling reels. They were a respected and popular brand then. People loved the spincast models, no more backlashes (casting reels were pretty basic back then, no magnets).

Rich, I like the way you talk kindly to the fish, treating him or her in a Gaddabout Gaddis sort of way with humility and virtuosity both. Your camera work on the Tenn-river showing the hooking and the battle gives freshness to each battle, and a stronger feeling than any writing about it could do. My guess is the great days of the fishing writers and the Outdoor Life recollections are all but gone. Probably gone forever to the nifty hanging or arc-camera and the panorama shots by the drifter-fisherman. I lived through both eras, as you have, and the time of popular tales and the drawn and building of memories is shortened today reduced to a 15-minute film, which like the good story-teller of old, has to keep the story in the film 'an unbroken thread'. You do a fine job of that in this film and story.

Awfully nice of you to give those boys those fine eating fish. I grew up on Walleye in the NC mountains.
