Richard, I appreciate that you work with what you have, rather than constantly buying the latest and greatest. You fish like a working class or frugal person who knows they can only spend their money once. There is nothing pretentious about you and you come across as relatable and approachable. Great advice Richard! I’m a marine mechanic in Guntersville, 75% of all repairs are due to ethanol in fuel which begins to break down after just 14 days. Even “Non-ethanol” fuel can still (and does) legally contain up to 5% ethanol! It’s a disaster for boats. Use star-tron every time you touch a gas pump guys! God bless and great video Richard Gene!

Hello Mr. Gene !! I ordered a new 1860 center console 2 months ago and picked it up Monday. I also had them put on 70lb thrust power drive. It was extremely windy in SC today and that 70lb thrust held my boat in place on spot lock but it definitely had to work to do it. Hopefully this info helps !! Thank you for all the videos and information you put out. God Bless !!

Hey Richard, see those bunk guides on the back of your trailer? I put a set on toward the front of the trailer to force the bow of the boat straight onto the trailer. Especially handy when trying to load the boat in a high side wind or current.

Is that something you fabricated yourself or can you buy them somewhere? I could sure use them on my trailer. The winds in KY make trying to get out of the water with my boat like wrestling with a two-headed hog!

I have a 112 lb thrust on my 17' 10" Ranger 354v. Everyone said all I needed was 80. Well I'm glad I got the extra power. Helps tremendously in wind. I had 55 lb thrust on my 1436 Jon boat. You'll want more trolling motor, and I recommend holding off until you can afford to get more power than you think you need. You'll be glad you did.

Good video my friend. For the new boat, in my opinion, as you don’t worry about the floor paint, looks really good. I will not own another tiller engine because of my age and shoulder problems. I put a stick steer in my river boat and I love it,$300.00. If your motor has the connection for steering, then it’s no problem. Those big boats and big motors take some power to steer once loaded. The trolling motor is to small, need a bigger motor, then you get into 24 volt systems to. I switched mine to 24 volt and 70 lb and it works great on my big boat (18.5’ Sylvan deep V with walk through windshield). Just my opinion. Thanks again fir sharing.

Now this is the video I've been looking for. A nice walk around on your boats. I agree about the center console being in the way, but I've never had a tiller steer motor so I'm mot sure how it would change boating for me. However, a clean and open floorplan on an 1860 boat does look appealing. Thank you, Richard, for always putting out great videos. Entertaining, educational, comfortable as can be, with a touch of Woo from adrilagen from the great sport of fishing.

I agree Richard. The 1860 needs at least a 70lb+ 24V tolling motor. I have a 55lb 12v on my 17’Creastliner bass/crappie boat. And when the wind gets up past 10 it will wear that 12v down quick. I had to put a backup battery just in case until I can upgrade trolling motor.

Richard I had a Triton TR 19 fiberglass bass boat and it had a Johnson 24 Volt trolling motor 1998 I think it was 45 or 50 # thrust. The boat had a 42-45 gal. gas tank with a 175 H.P Johnson motor. That trolling motor was all that boat needed. In fact I never ran it on high. I think you will find 50# thrust will move that boat to suit your needs. Enjoy your videos. I live in southeast missouri, and fish everything from local lakes to the Mississippi and Ohio rivers, not sure about were live but around here there are a few places that Sell 93 0ctane has no Ethanol in it, I've found works great in outboard motors, that's what I use in all my small engines, and you don't have to add anything to it, lawnmower, tiller and boat motor.

I had almost the exact same setup as the 1st one years and years ago. I had a 50 evenrude though. I also had a 6ft steel rod I made and welded a spot on one end for rope and made a point on the other. It made a awesome anchor that flew through the water stuck in the mud and when I was in them through it down almost with zero splash. That thing would stick in that Louisiana Bayou mud and hold and was pretty easy to pull up when ready.

hi Richard, i have almost the same boat, a 1652vt lowe w/40 Mercury 4 stroke, welded boat, i would suggest to install a keel saver on the bottom for paved ramps, no damage, the trolling motor is a 52 pound motorguide, 12 volt, works great, no bigger needed. The mercury motor is likely made by yamaha, mine is, its black but still a yamahammer, lol. i changed props to a stainless 3 blade cause its tougher, wont chip when you hit floating limbs and blocks of wood. the open floor is nice for fishing of anykind but, but, anything put in the middle is likely to blow out while trailering. better check it. mine runs about 30 mph. dont use much gas. put lucas injector cleaner in it, will clean and stabilize fuel for 2 years. i also installed 3 yellow led 18 wheeler trailer lights on sides where you have your wire run. i also ran a 6-3 strand copper from back to front for trolling motor battery all heavy stuff in the back, not in the floor where my catfish go. lol. I fish the Ohio river at Cairo and north, got a 85 pound blue bymysef on rod adn reel. i dont anchor i go huntin em. Good luck with that new boat, fun to shakem down. Ron

Richard, i have a 14x42 Alweld standard jon boat with the exact same 50# thrust power drive motor on it that you have. Recently the foot control failed, and i found that there is a remote control available for it called ( co pilot )at a very reasonable cost, like about $100. So i bought one and had it installed. It does the same things the foot control does but no more, meaning it steers and you can increase or decrease speed as well as shutting if off completely. Mind you now there is also a much more expensive option available called ( I pilot ) for that motor as well, which allows for things like spot lock. But the ( co pilot ) will allow you to control the motor from anywhere in the boat with the remote, which is a very nice feature. At my age im not comfortable standing on the bow as you do while running the boat. Ask your self if you could get back in the boat if you fell out of it, especially in cold water like where you fish. You could also move that motor onto your other boat, and you would find the remote to be a welcome addition. Id suggest you contact Minn Kota for more information on the 2 different type remote units available for the Power drive motors. May God continue to bless you, and allow you to keep up the good work.

Hey Richard I have a 1860 also but it’s a Lowe Roughneck and the lay is pretty much like the tracker. The front deck is exactly like yours but I’ll soon be 74 years old and the step up to the front deck is high and hard on my knees which I’ve already had one replaced back in 2003 and fixing to have the right knee done this April. But I had to build a step to help me get up and down. One for the front And one for the back for a friend if needed. I built them out of new treated wood I would rather have them built out of aluminum but aluminum work around here is so expensive. But I have sitting in my garage a 2007 low hour 60hp Yamaha Two stroke that I just installed a Yamaha big tiller on it. I put a 10” Jack plate which it being and boat there were no holds drilled in the transom so I borrowed a pattern bracket from Athens Marine to drill the holes in the right location. I have hung the motor yet because I use this boat for the electric reservoir only. The Yamaha weight is 275 lbs but I found a used hydraulic lift that use for lifting 300 lbs plus handicap people from the beds to wheelchairs so that I can use it in big lakes and rivers. Right now the boat has three trolling motors on it up from a foot control 75 lbs thrust Minn Kota which it hauls by it self and two 50 lbs each MotorGuides on the back and have them wired to a Bigfoot up front to cut them on and off. With three motor it trucks along just great. I haven’t run the 60 Yamaha on the boat yet it’s been setting in the garage for over a year the motor has a 128 lbs of compression on all cylinders motor looks new. I hope that high step don’t bother your knees but if it dose and you decide to make something for yours show me your ideas it might be better than what I came up with. Ok Richard enough of my ramblings on my boat. Have blessed day be safe and catch what you can use and release the rest hahahahahaha sound familiar 😂
