I often catch these when I'm panfishing. I use about the same-sized hook (or smaller) and a very small piece of nightcrawler. I like nightcrawlers vs. red worms because they're a lot tougher. Thanks for the tips on locating shiners!

I spent about $3 dollars on your glass beads but I've caught more on just plain Corn and a split shot brothers. On the ground but like he was sayin gets we might need a bobber Momma Sue. I've only ever caught golden shiners in one pond in my area. It's literally the only place that I've ever seen them.

Throw a bit of horse feed out there and Chum them up. Cast net them in a couple different spots and you'll be in business!

Catching your own bait is the best way to catch fish cause your matching the hatch also these fish know a predator while a minnow or shiner that was grown for bait doesn’t know a predator and may not run from a fish inticeing it

Cool video! Don't need huge bait for big fish. I caught a 17lb pike ice fishing a couple years back using a 4-5 inch shiner. The real little ones are good for trout!

I have lived on a lake for 4 years.The lake has a lot of golden shiners and they get big. But I’ve noticed they hang out in open water near the surface (at night). My lake is also the second best (public) lake in the world for tiger muskellunge. And tigers hide in the thick weeds and ambush. So that’s why they like open water.
