I keep coming back to this video... I'm seriously looking at moving to the Telford area and I'm an avid hiker/walker. I moved recently away from my regular trail that I walked everyday and I'm sorely missing it. The Wrekin would be an amazing daily walk. thankyou Richard for doing all these videos

I went up the Wrekin as a teenager with my late dad & older brother. I still have the photo displayed of us half way up. I walked it again one winter a few years ago & can happly report the views are stunning. I probably will go back again this winter.

When I visit my daughter who lives in Albrighton, I like to travel down the M54 early on a sunny morning. As I progress along the motorway, the Wrekin appears from around a bend just like a sleeping dragon lit up by the rising sun. It is a magnificent sight.

I am up and down the M54 all the time and when I see the Wrekin I know I am nearly at Harriet's house in Shrewsbury.

A promising start weather wise but a bit of a cloudy conclusion. It looks like a great place to visit. I didn't realise the Wrekin was a volcanic formation, very interesting. Thanks

Just discovered your Channel Richard, and enjoying it! All started with Shrewsbury as I searched that after being a Soldier there in 1983/84. Loved your tour of the Town, didnt appreciate the place back then so it was a really interesting video! The Wrekin here we learned our Map reading skills around here!

Thanks so much Terry. Welcome aboard. I must go back to Shropshire and explore more when the restrictions are over.

Hi Richard another great & informative vid, I have walked the long mynd a few times but never the Wrekin. Thanks for that. Pete.
@RichardVobes5 жыл бұрын
It's a pleasure Pete. Well worth a trip up, although it does get quite busy. The Long Mynd is a far better walk in my opinion with fabulous views, but the old hillfort is worth a visit for sure on top of the Wrekin, and it is such a famous landmark.

In the mid-1960s, I drove a Short Wheel Base Land Rover, towing a 1 tonne Diesel Generator, up a narrow track, not unlike the one you started on - to the Transmitting Station (both Radio and TV) for Outside Broadcast comms links which we used to establish several times a year... Probably one of the most challenging drives we ever did, except perhaps up to the radio station above Swansea.

If we walk the Wrekin we usually take a left at the fence just where you met the jogger. A bit steeper but a more direct route to the top. We sometimes take a small picnic and sit on the rocks looking over towards Wenlock Edge.

Nice scenery nonetheless. It reminded me of some of the places along the Camino de Santiago in Galicia, northern Spain. Both in terms of the greenery and the overcast, somewhat threatening weather. I would certainly want to come visit that location if ever I get up to that part of the UK

In the Black country, a common expression is, "Going all around the Wrekin." It's applied to people who don't come to the point and instead ramble on aimlessly. It's because the Wrekin is very large, not particularly steep hill, so it covers a huge area and going all around its base would be a journey of many miles.
@RichardVobes3 жыл бұрын
A journey that I must take, going around the thing!
