Of course it’s because you have an older iPhone. Dynamic Island only came out on iPhone 14 Pro then to all models in the iPhone 15 lineup afterwards

It seems to me that my iPads and iPhone start malfunctioning prior to a new software upgrade. Remembering so many thousands of hidden controls and functions is another brain overload with few improvements in the actual work my devices can do. Recently the font size reduced to a size I cannot easily read, when writing a comment on KZbin. As Apple does not design its own App, all of the fancy colours and visual effects do not fix the basic problem of readability on an App I use 6 hours a day. For essential Apple controls to adjust my devices Apple has to design its own Apps. As Steve Jobs said, "Apple designs its Software and Hardware to work as one."

When you touch your iPhone screen, it illuminates for about four seconds. I would like it to remain illuminated for a longer time. Is that possible?

If your iPhone is locked and you touch your screen but don't unlock it, the illumination is going to fade quickly. However, if you unlock your phone and you want it to stay illuminated longer with inactivity, you can change this by going to Settings > Display and Brightness > Auto-Lock and change the default time between when you last touch your phone and when it automatically locks after inactivity. You can always lock your phone immediately by pressing the side button. I hope this helps.

Hi, I installed iOS18 on my 15 pro and I do not have the icon in the bottom left. I have watched other videos about the app and their layouts do not have the icon in the bottom left but some do - it’s a bit confusing.

I've had no issues other than battery life. I'm not recommending it yet though. Besides, the final version will be out very soon. But if you're adventurous, you could load it up. So far, pretty stable for me.

I’m 76 years old and just went from an iPhone 7 to a 12. I have two things going on. I was just getting acclimated to the 12, then loaded iOS 18. Lots for me to process with both changes. I’m more into functionality than frills. Any suggestions?

I've said this in a number of videos - that I use my iPhone in practical ways - kind of like you. So I'd just focus on using the phone, and learning how to text. After all, the iPhone is a communication device. Then I'd learn about email and how to use the camera. Just fool around with your phone as you like. You can't break it so don't worry. Hope this helps!

The wallet you’re promoting is interesting although expensive. I’m not sure why one needs it these days as we’re moving away from physical credit cards to contactless payments everywhere. As someone who works with Apple products don’t you feel that the Apple Wallet has supplanted your Esker?

In a word, no. It may at some point, but I still carry my driver's license and my debit card. I also have a work credit card and a couple others that haven't made it to Apple Wallet yet. You 're point is well taken, and that day is surely coming. But for now, I truly do use my Ekster wallet every day. Thanks so much for watching!

@@RichBowlin here all the public transit, taxis, and most merchants now have contactless payments. It’s almost rare to see old fashioned cash anymore at all. I’ve not even seen the newest issue currency in circulation.

Hi @Quince828, just something to consider about Seniors using technology. My husband is visually impaired and still after 8 years hasn't mastered using an IPhone without my assistance. In fact, he most often presses on an icon or two and moves them around without realizing and then can't find where they went to. I wish there was a way to lock the icons for someone like him who knows where things are located on their phones. If he is out and about with someone other than myself, relying on a phone "only" isn't an option. So it is very important for him to carry a wallet with his License, Medicaid card, credit card, etc. Besides, being visually impaired, using a cell phone with a relatively small screen (for him he would need a tablet - which is not a compact device) and a single window visibility for an extended period causes more eye strain, which is not good especially Seniors. Also, cell phones are still pervious to being hacked and open to malware. As I am now a Senior as well, I hope that there never comes a day where we "only" rely on contactless payments or for purposes of showing ID.

According to Apple, one does not need to close apps. They are designed to be open, and they are not necessarily live. There can be flukes. I always close my camera app cause you just don't know what it might be up to.

I have just installed iOS 18 on my iPhone 12 and the passwords app does not look quite the same as the one in your video. There is no facility to add a new folder as you demonstrate (no icon in the bottom left) all I can do is add a new “Shared Group” or create a new password (plus icon in the right hand bottom right hand corner). Is this to do with the iPhone model, or is the first iteration not fully functional.

I opened your KZbin video on IOS 18, 7 iPhone tips for seniors and found that you failed to advise viewers of the model of iPhone you are using. I have a basic iPhone 13 on which I just performed the update to IOS 18, but I have no "Dynamic Island", nor the ability to "Add to Home Screen". It is frustrating when this happens. for example, I spent time trying to learn how to switch on Dynamic Island, only to find its not available on my phone. You need to include a preamble advising viewers that some features are not available on all phones.

Rich - I greatly appreciate your tips- find them for the most part “spot on” (many apps I do not use). However my main comment is regarding your Ekster sponsor. Their wallet is fine for a jacket carried wallet, but I am long since retired and It does NOT fit in a hip pocket - too long. Even if it is in a deep hip pocket, the length is very uncomfortable when one sits down. Keep doing the great comments !
